A conservative historian defends America’s past by debunking four dozen common liberal myths
In this follow-up to the best-selling A Patriot’s History of the United States, Professor Larry Schweikart once again challenges liberal historians and their shameful attempts to distort our country’s legacy. This time he takes on authors of popular textbooks who, in an effort to be politically correct, tarnish America’s image in the eyes of our high school and college students.
The problem isn’t that liberal authors present their opinions or interpretations of history from an obvious left-wing bias. The problem is authors who actually distort facts and manipulate data in an effort to appear objective and unbiased while furthering their leftist objectives.
Students learn, for example, that the Founding Fathers were elitists who drafted the Constitution in order to protect their own economic interests. . . .That Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation only because he needed black soldiers. . . .That racist groups such as the KKK represented our society in the early twentieth century. . . .That the failures of capitalism caused the Great Depression. All false, as readers will discover.

Since the liberal revolution of the ’60s and ’70s, American history books have been biased toward the negative, distorting the way America’s past is taught. They overemphasize America’s racism, sexism, and bigotry while downplaying the greatness of her patriots. As a result, more emphasis is placed on Harriet Tubman than on George Washington, more on the internment of Japanese Americans during WWII than D-day or Iwo Jima, more on the dangers we faced from Joseph McCarthy than those we faced from Josef Stalin.
This book offers a long-overdue acknowledgment of America’s true and proud history. The authors reexamine America’s discovery, founding, and development with an appreciation for the principles of public virtue, personal liberty, and private property that have made this nation so uniquely successful.

The Swamp has been around for over 150 years, and six major presidents have tried to drain it with varying degrees of success.
Donald Trump promised to “Drain the Swamp,” by which he originally meant lobbyists. When he got in, he found an entirely different Swamp–a Deep State that had grown, layer upon layer, within the government. But he wasn’t the first to encounter entrenched Swamp opposition. Abraham Lincoln had to battle the
“Slave Power Conspiracy”; Grover Cleveland was the most successful of three presidents to fight the spoils Swamp. Theodore Roosevelt found a new iteration of the Swamp awaiting him: Trusts. After World War II, John F. Kennedy discovered that he had little control over the Central Intelligence Agency, and even found he
needed the CIA for his own purposes. Despite promising to shrink the bureaucracy Swamp, Ronald Reagan found himself helpless to even make a dent in it. And Trump soon learned that the Deep State could ensure no one ever brought any of its own to justice. Dragonslayers explains why these Swamps exist, and why they were–and remain–so hard to defeat.

Every schoolchild is taught the great turning points in American history, such as Gettysburg, Pearl Harbor, the Kennedy assassination, and 9/11. But other, equally significant events have altered our destiny without being understood-or even widely noticed.
Acclaimed conservative historian Larry Schweikart now takes an in-depth look at seven such episodes and reveals the profound ways they have shaped America. He also asks listeners to reconsider them not just in terms of what happened but in light of the Founding Fathers’ vision for our nation. What would Washington, Jefferson, or Madison have said about these events?
In the same accessible style of his previous bestsellers-A Patriot’s History of the United States and 48 Liberal Lies About American History-Professor Schweikart doesn’t merely recount our history; he forces us to rethink what makes our country great. He shows how individual liberty, private enterprise, and small government helped build a free and prosperous nation. Conversely, whenever these values have been threatened by big government, oppressive taxes, and special interests, we lose sight of the principles that made us strong.
You’ll be surprised to learn how these events spurred sweeping changes that still affect us today. For instance:
-Martin Van Buren’s consolidation of the first national political party made it possible for Barack Obama to get elected almost two centuries later
-Dwight Eisenhower’s heart attack led to a war on red meat, during which the government took control over Americans’ diets
-The rock ‘n’ roll craze (often mistakenly claimed as a liberal phenomenon) helped bring about the decline of communism and the fall of the Soviet Union
In this time of national uncertainty, it has never been more important for Americans to understand what has shaped our national destiny. This provocative book will enlighten anyone looking for clarity about our past and inspiration for our future.

An original collection of the most influential documents in American history from the bestselling authors of A Patriot’s History of the United States
Since 2005, A Patriot’s History of the United States has become a modern classic for its defense of America as a unique country founded on the principles of justice, equality, and freedom for all. The Patriot’s History Reader continues this tradition by going back to the original sources—the documents, speeches, and legal decisions that shaped our country into what it is today. The authors explore both oft-cited documents—the Declaration of Independence, Emancipation Proclamation, and Roe v. Wade—as well as those that are less famous. Among these are George Washington’s letter to Alexander Hamilton, which essentially outlined America’s military strategy for the next 150 years, and Herbert Hoover’s speech on business ethics, which examines the government’s role in regulating private enterprise.
By helping readers explore history at its source, this book sheds new light on the principles and personalities that have made America great.

The #1 New York Times bestselling coauthor of A Patriot’s History of the United States examines ten current challenges.
America is at a crossroads. We face two options: continue our descent toward big government, higher taxes, less individual liberty, and more debt or pull our country back on the path our Founding Fathers planned for us. But that path isn’t always so easy to see.
Following the success of his previous books, conservative historian Larry Schweikart tackles some of the key issues confronting our nation today: education, government bailouts, gun control, health care, the environment, and more. For each he asks, “What would the founders say?” and sets out to explore our history and offer wisdom to help us get back on track. What would really be compatible with the vision that Washington, Jefferson, Madison, and the other founders had for America?
Written in Schweikart’s informal yet informative style, What Would the Founders Say? is sure to delight his fans and anyone looking for a little clarity on tough issues.
