100 Hours Audiobook Summary

A decadent spring break beach getaway becomes a terrifying survival story when six Miami teens are kidnapped. A pulse-pounding thrill ride from New York Times bestselling author Rachel Vincent.

Maddie is beyond done with her cousin Genesis’s entitled and shallow entourage. Genesis is so over Miami’s predictable social scene with its velvet ropes, petty power plays, and backstabbing boyfriends.

While Maddie craves family time for spring break, Genesis seeks novelty–like a last-minute getaway to an untouched beach in Colombia. And when Genesis wants something, it happens.

But paradise has its price. Dragged from their tents under the cover of dark, Genesis, Maddie, and their friends are kidnapped and held for ransom deep inside the jungle–with no diva left behind. It all feels so random to everyone except Genesis. She knows they were targeted for a reason. And that reason is her.

Now, as the hours count down, only one thing’s for certain: If the Miami hostages can’t thwart their captors’ plan, no one will make it out alive.

Tapping into our darkest fears while exploring issues of injustice, loss, and the courage to fight for what matters most, this thrilling read is perfect for fans of Nova Ren Suma, Becca Fitzpatrick, and Jennifer L. Armentrout.

This book was incredible. I just couldn't put it down and had to devour it from beginning to end. I loved everything about it: how fleshed out the characters are, the plot, how the narrative was split between Maddie and Genesis, how raw the feeling were, all the WTF moments there were... simply AMAZING. Rachel Vincent have never before written sth like this book and it surprised me how perfect it was, how everything was researched and how addictive this book was. I SO want more!!!What happens now with Genesis???? OMG!!!

I'm still speechless. Wow, just wow. I don't normally read ya suspense, love paranormal romance books. But Rachel Vincent is my all time favorite author so I had to read it. 100 Hours was a young adult novel with grit. The story was raw, emotional, and action packed to the very last page. The author still managed to capture teens in the peak of drama. This book has everything. True to form, social hierarchy, boyfriend drama, personality flaws, and entitlement are weaved into the plot. Once the plot really got going, it didn't stop. There were twists I never expected. Being kidnapped and held hostage in the jungles of Colombia, these teens will be put to the ultimate test-how they respond under true pressure. Vincent penned a story most others would be leery to write. She delved into politics, cartels, tension between countries, and managed to turn this into one of the best ya page turners I've read all year. This book-out March 28, 2017- needs to be on your to read shelves. Ten glittery stars for 100 Hours. No guts, no glory. The end was shocking and I can't wait to see what the next installment in this trilogy will bring.

This was an exciting, fast-paced thriller with intriguing characters. Genesis, whose father own a large shipping company, is the leader of her crew which includes her cousins Ryan and Maddie, her boyfriend Holden, and her friends Pen and Neda. Instead of spending their Spring Break in the Bahamas, Genesis decides that Colombia would be a better choice. Her grandmother lives there, her father was born there, and Ryan and Maddie's father was killed there. The story begins with two people running from a woman toward the beach and the hope of freedom. Then the story counts down the previous hundred hours from the alternating viewpoints of Genesis and Maddie as the group are kidnapped by strangers they later learn are both terrorists and drug smugglers.I found Genesis's viewpoint fascinating though I didn't like her at all at first and gradually came to understand her better as the story progressed. I also liked Maddie's viewpoint as she discovered strengths and talents that she didn't know she had. Fans of thrillers will enjoy this one and wait eagerly for the book which completes the duology.

Her whole life, Genesis has been warned to never go to Columbia, even though her grandmother lives there and her father is from there. However, no one tells Genesis what to do. Along with her rich boyfriend, rich friends, and her cousins Maddie and Ryan, she decides that Columbia is exactly where they are going and they're not telling anyone until they get there. However, what should be a fun romp for a bunch of wealthy teens, turns into a kidnapping. As they are marched through the jungle and held by 2 different forces, can Genesis figure out what is going on and get them freed? I did not like Genesis' character at the beginning, but Vincent allows her layers to emerge as she fights for her freedom. Great novel for today's times.

I really enjoyed this, but I'm kind of frustrated with the fact that it's the first in a series (if the ending is any indication.) I liked the character growth and the Spanish thrown in. A quick read that left me wanting more. Happy reading!

I got an advanced copy of this book from Edelweiss, and oh how glad I am that I did. I loved Rachel Vincent's Stars Never Rise duology, so I was really excited to read this. The book is from two cousins POVS, and is pretty much nonstop action. My only regret is that the book doesn't come out for like 6 months which means I have even longer to wait to read the sequel.

Action-packed and suspense-filled, 100 HOURS takes readers on a harrowing and nerve-wracking journey through the jungles of South America from not one but two characters' perspectives. With a pace that is lightning fast, tension that continues to build, and with a few surprise twists, this is a story you will not be able to put down. What starts off as a simple spring break vacation turns into a terrifying nightmare for Genesis, her cousins, and her friends. Used to being in control of every situation, she did not expect her decision to go to Colombia and hike to their beautiful remote beaches would be anything more than a mild inconvenience for her privileged friends and a step out of her comfort zone for her cousin Maddie. She couldn’t have anticipated the situation they found themselves in - on the run, fleeing from a gun-toting kidnapper, facing even graver threats. She didn’t think her life held as many secrets as it did. She never imagined that things could go from idyllic to deadly in just 100 hours. With a quick peek at the present, alternating points of view, and 100 hours to find out just what happened, Rachel Vincent created a gripping, electrifying, twisty-turny thriller. She introduced two female main characters to tell the tale - one who is strong, arrogant, entitled, manipulative and one who is cautious and caring, and who gains strength as the story progresses. Not everything is as it seems - so expect a few surprises. This is not simply a young, wealthy tourists kidnapped for ransom horror story. There are hidden truths, power struggles, conflicting agendas, and betrayals of trust at play. And because this is just the first book in a series, not everything will be revealed or wrapped up at the story’s end.100 HOURS promises to be a quick and enthralling read that will keep you on edge from the very first chapter where it teases what is to come. It delivers all the chills and anticipatory tension that can be hoped for. It drops hints at things that might be amiss. It reveals information from one character’s perspective that the other isn’t aware of. And it switches viewpoints, leaving you hanging for a chapter until the viewpoint switches back.Readers who love their stories exciting, intense, and climactic from start to finish, that have a bit of a mystery, a touch of romance, a pulse-pounding pace, and characters they can connect with, will not want to miss this first installment in a sure to be outstanding series.Original GR comments:I love thrillers that tease the present then go back to fill in the details of how the characters got where they were when we first met them. It just makes me want to race through the read. Which is exactly what I did the first time I read this book. I thought I would slow down the second time, months later, but it was every bit as nail biting. Rachel Vincent does suspense so well, revealing more about the characters, the situation, the background, all the while ratcheting up the intensity and action. Did not know it was a series on first read but love the fact that there will be more. The cliffhanger definitely makes me that much more anxious for the next installment.I loved the alternating POVs which allowed for a much bigger view of what was going on as one POV was able to figure things out that the other couldn't and vice versa. It also made things more nerve wracking.Fantastic start to the series. Will definitely be following it to its conclusion.Review TK.

**This review is for the audiobook on Audible**After listening to the sample on Audible of 100 Hours by Rachel Vincent, narrated by Kyla Garcia and Justis Bolding, I knew I had to get it! I'm a high school Spanish teacher, and I was intrigued by the catchy storyline, the use of Spanish throughout the book, and the Colombian setting. I have to say time flew by while listening! It was engaging, suspenseful, and I really like the amount of Spanish used. In my reviews, I leave it up to the reader to review the plot description on their own instead of retelling it, so that I don't give anything away. However, I will say that the story is told from the point of view of two girls who are cousins, Maddie and Genesis. I didn't realize this right away, so I was confused in the first part of the book because I thought the same person was speaking. When things continued to not add up/make sense, I went back and re-read the plot synopsis. That is when I realized there were two narrators. Then, it came clear that there were two people telling the story of what happened the past 100 hours to their group of friends. I'm sure this will not be a problem for you (I should have paid better attention), but just in case, I had to make it clear. Once I came to the realization that two characters were taking turns telling the story, I didn't have a problem with following the storyline. Maybe the two narrators have too similar of a voice...? Maybe it's just me...? Overall, they did a good job. They were easy to listen to and understand. And, they spoke and soumded just like teens do!! Also, whichever one did the voice of the female kidnapper/terrorist, it was perfect! I felt like I was able to visualize that character based on voice alone. :-)I would have given the book 5-stars, but truthfully, I was not a fan of the ending, so I dropped it to 4-stars. I saw in some of the reviews on Amazon that this book is #1 in a series. That would make more sense, since it pretty much ends, leaving you wondering what happens next! I do not know if this is truth or just wishful thinking from readers, but I would definitely love to hear book #2!!I Also, I wish that the setting was more developed. The story takes place in Colombia, which was one of the main reasons I chose this book. However, I don't feel like there was much that made me visualize the area, specifically, except for being told that is where the story took place. For those of you who do not know any Spanish, know that there is a fair amount of it spread throughout the book. While much of the dialogue used may be common to those who speak the language, you may feel like you are missing out on parts of the story because only about half of what is said is stated/repeated in English through future character dialogue. Don't worry, though, because nothing is said in Spanish that causes you to miss out on parts of the plot. In fact, hearing the characters speak it added to the overall listening experience, in my opinion. Nice job, narrators! :-)If you like these types of storylines and don't mind books that involve spoiled teens partying on Spring Break (because, let's face it...it happens just like the story tells!), then I can confidently recommend this book! This is my first book by Rachel Vincent, and I'm crossing my fingers that there will be more in this series! I found it to be well-written and very engaging! Keep up the great work, RV!Thank you for reading my review. I hope it was helpful. :-)

The boy she had an instant attraction to when they first meet in the beach. This split second decision, is all Genesis idea. She has a longing to see and know more about the country of her fathers birth.A country he fled, because of the danger. As the group sets out on the hike, you know it’s not going to end well. And it doesn’t.This is a gripping bottom of the pants thriller, as things start to go terribly, terribly, wrong. The drama amps up when they reach there first base camp, with unexpected tragedy, and kidnapping. From this moment on, it’s a roller coaster ride of emotion, as lives are lost and relationships start to unravel. It took a while to get to into this book, while the author set about establishing the characters differing personalities, but once I got a grip on who-was-who I started to get involved.Genesis, as a female lead, was extremely self confident, as you would expect for a seventeen year old shipping heiress, who’s father is so paranoid of attacks, she has been trained in the art of weaponry, and self defence. She gets bored easy, and is not shy around guy, aware of the effect she has on them. But it’s her over confident, self assured attitude that gets her in trouble, and puts the lives of everyone close to her in harms way. Thus, It ends on a shocking twisting cliffhanger. Growing up in the lap of luxury, seventeen-year-old Genesis Valencia has rarely wanted for anything. Her friends follow her every whim, and she has learned to display only the parts of herself she wants others to see. Sneaking off to Colombia for Spring Break—against her father’s express wishes—Genesis is pleased to reconnect with her grandmother and go on a jungle adventure with her friends. But when their trek takes an unexpected turn, Genesis and her companions must capitalize on their individual strengths in order to survive. This action-packed story takes readers through the one hundred harrowing hours of Genesis’ time in Colombia. Shifting focus between Genesis and her more reserved cousin Maddie, the plot unfolds in pieces, giving readers a glimpse into two distinct sides of the narrative. Short chapters and pulse-pounding action sequences keep the pages turning right until the end, when a dramatic conclusion has readers grappling for the next book in the series.A teen adventure novel would be incomplete without romantic interlude and deception, and this story does not disappoint. Though the characters initially seem vapid and unlikeable, they become more three dimensional and sympathetic as the drama unfolds. Genesis and Maddie especially discover more about themselves through their experiences, and as their understanding increases, so too does the reader’s interest in their story.Fans of spring break suspense movies will be immediately drawn to this story for its emphasis on danger, drama, and make out sessions. Bookended by the present day, readers spend the majority of the story attempting to discover what brought the characters to the opening scene. Incorporating Spanish and French language, cultural elements, and illicit activity, each layer of this narrative adds another level of intrigue to the story. This is an enjoyable and engaging diversion for young adult readers.

Dear Rachel,It’s been a long time since I’ve read one of your books. I got too busy to read! And it’s a damn shame, since I’ve never read a book of yours that I didn’t fall in love with. I discovered you through the Soul Screamers and Shifter series. And I even got to meet you back in 2012 at BEA! But sometime in there, I just fell away from reading. Other things got in the way. But then I saw 100 Hours.I was intrigued that this book wasn’t urban fantasy/paranormal like the rest of your books. And I had no idea what to expect. And to be honest, at first I was disappointed. I’d grown so accustomed to jumping into something that is “other” right from the get go (like Faythe’s introduction in Stray), that watching the spring break of a few spoiled teenagers felt anti-climactic.But then. You made me feel for those teenagers. You made me care about those teenagers who ended up kidnapped in the jungle. I don’t know how you do it, but you managed to take the shallow, vapid Genesis and make her my favorite character, when I expected it to be Maddie.I became emotionally invested in what was happening, and I couldn’t stop listening (because I have the audio book). I would get home and sit in the driveway because I couldn’t turn it off yet. I would get to work and sit in the parking deck for a few extra minutes just to hear more. And I never saw that ending coming. My only complaint is that the audio book for the follow up 99 Lies isn’t available yet!
