A Fire Endless Audiobook Summary

In the stunning conclusion to the Elements of Cadence duology, A Fire Endless finds the delicate balance between the human and faerie realm threatened by Bane, the spirit of the North Wind, whose defeat can only come through fire, song, and heart-rending sacrifice.

East and West. Humans and Spirits. Breccans and Tamerlaines. The Isle of Cadence has always held itself and its residents in a tenuous balance. But now Bane, the spirit of the North Wind, has pushed everyone and everything in his path off-kilter in a bid to claim dominion over all.

In the West, Adaira struggles to adjust to the more brutal, bitter ways of life among the Breccans. Striving to find her place in the clan, she swiftly realizes that it just might be the last role she desires to hold. And while magic blooms effortlessly for the Breccans in the west, the spirits continue to suffer beneath Bane’s harsh power, felt in every gust of wind.

In the East, Jack is adrift without Adaira until he sings to the ember-weak fire spirits, acquiring a dangerous mission he never expected. One that is destined to lead him westward. Likewise, Torin and Sidra are consumed by a new mystery as sickness spreads first amongst the crops, and then to the people of the Tamerlaine clan. While Sidra desperately searches for a cure, Torin dares to strike a bargain with the spirits–a precarious folly anytime, but especially now as the days grow darker.

With the island falling further out of balance, humans and spirits alike will need to join together to face Bane, and Jack’s gift with the harp will be called upon once more. Yet no one can challenge the North Wind without paying a terrible price, and the sacrifice required this time may be more than Jack, Adaira, Torin, and Sidra can bear to pay.

this series is so, so lovely. it has the same comfort of a warm hug and magical cosiness of a daydream.and the atmosphere of this story is just as strong as it was in the first book. the fairytale-esque vibes with the lure of scottish charm is just so lush. the mysterious island of cadence, the resolution to an age-old feud between clans, and exploring the realm of spirits create a very tangible world. and i cant get over how great the characters are. they are individuals that are so easy to empathise with and care for. the two main couples are separated for a good portion of the book, but i found myself not hating it as i normally would. i love how they each all bring something to the story.overall, a wonderful conclusion to a tale filled with so much heart. a massive thanks to harper voyager for the ARC!↠ 4.5 stars

I received an advance copy of this novel from the publisher, Harper Voyager, via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.Have you ever read a sequel that retroactively made you love its predecessor even more, to the point that you actually go back and change your original rating? I originally loved A River Enchanted but had a few issues with it. But upon reading A Fire Endless, all of those issues have evaporated. I think this might be the closest thing to a perfect duology I’ve ever consumed. The balance hear is exquisite, the writing became more and more lyrically beautiful as the story progressed, and there’s just something to be said for a tale of hope and healing; those are woefully infrequent, and I was thrilled to find such a story within the pages of the Elements of Cadence duology.A Fire Endless picks up right where A River Enchanted left off. As this is the case and I don’t want to potentially spoil the first book, I’m not going to discuss any specifics of the plot. I will say instead that there was instant tension here on multiple fronts, as we pick up fro the climax of the first half of the story. I love how seamlessly Ross wove her story in these two books; they do truly feel like two halves of one longer story that couldn’t quite fit itself into one bound volume. Even considering the aforementioned tension, and the increasingly high stakes, there’s something wonderfully cozy and wholesome about the world Ross crafted within the isle of Cadence. It might be broken, but the potential it carries shines incredibly brightly. The characters who grew on me so slowly in A River Enchanted had my whole heart in A Fire Endless. Jack and Adaira, Torin and Sidra, Mirin and Frae and others we are introduced to in this second installment, are all wonderful, imperfect characters who I loved rooting for. Our story fractured into various plot-lines here, but I was equally invested in all of them. I love when a story with shifting points of view can accomplish this level of readerly investment across the board, where there’s no temptation to skin through one point of view so the reader can get back to the perspective that interests them most. Just like the characters have grown on me, so have their relationships. There are multiple relationships here, but the two that are most core to the story are that of Jack and Adaira, and that of Torin and Sidra. Both are beautifully handled, and the growth of both couples from the beginning of the first book through this one is breathtaking. Scenes between the couples are a little less fade-to-black than they were in A River Enchanted, but they’re still very tasteful and far from graphic. These are not spicy romances, but they’re beautifully heartfelt one. The bedroom scenes here are less about the mechanics and more about the emotions involved.Speaking of romance, I feel like that word truly encapsulates the entirety of the duology. Not just in terms of the relationships themselves, but regarding the setting, and the magic, and the writing itself. The tone of the narrative is intensely romantic. Reading this made my heart hurt, but in the best way possible. Something about the loveliness of Ross’s craftsmanship and creativity made me yearn. The focus of this entire story is one of healing. Whether that is the healing of an individual’s physical body, the healing of romantic or familial relationships, the healing of the earth or the healing of a nation, every quest embarked upon is done with healing as treasure to be attained. I love how we see this in such a variety of ways in both the physical realm and the spiritual realm. And I still love so much how one of the ways healing comes here is through music. That resonates with me so strongly. There were certain scenes toward the end that made my heart ache, but in such a cathartic way. Ross wrapped up the story beautifully; there’s nothing I would change.A Fire Endless is an exquisitely lovely end to the Elements of Cadence duology. Ross’s writing is gorgeous, lyrically so, and I can’t wait to read more from her. If you’re looking for a lush, Celtic-inspired fantasy with elemental magic, heartfelt romance, an emphasis on music and a perfect balance struck between high stakes and a cozy setting, I can’t recommend this duology fervently enough. This is a story that I can’t wait to have on my physical shelves, so I can revisit it again and again. If I could actually visit, or even live in, any fantasy world, I think it just might be Cadence.

There is just something so magical about a book that stops you in your tracks. It doesn't rush, but takes its time enveloping you in lyrical prose...winding a trail in its wake until you come to a destination ending that's so beautiful, you immediately want to close the book and open to page one to have those feelings all over again. A Fire Endless will be one of those books that I will recommend for years to come, re read over and over again because it encapsulates every thing I love about fiction, fantasy and folktales. “You and I have faced many things alone. Between the mainland and the isle, the east and the west, we've carried our troubles in solitude. As if it were weakness to share one's burden with another. But I am with you now. I am yours, and I want you to lay your burdens down on me.”Whatever A River Enchanted had, A Fire Endless has that only its MORE. It is more romantic, more adventurous, more heartfelt and has a plot that just expands deeper with each chapter. I wont go into details because this is a second book and I think you know by now how much I love it.The references brought full circle from book one strengthened the story and each characters arc was extremely well done. I loved the themes of resilience, healing, strength in loving and willingness to let grudges go for the betterment of all. These characters have left imprints on my literary heart and i'm so glad a story like this exists.

A Fire Endless was an absolutely stunning conclusion to the story that started with A River Enchanted. Honestly, I think this was even better than the first. Highly recommend this duology for those that love folkloric fantasy.

4 stars. This is not my typical genre, but I really enjoyed this conclusion to A River Enchanted. At 500 pages, it never once seemed overly long or drawn out. I will look back on this book with fond memories.

“The other day… I was thinking about all the different paths our lives take, how little choices here and there suddenly guide us to places we never expected. How sometimes even the worst of experiences turn us into what we need to be, even though we would rather avoid the pain. But we grow stronger—we grow sharper—and before we truly even know it, we are looking back on it all. We see who we were and we see who we have become, and it is why the spirits watch us and marvel.”The Elements of Cadence snuck up on me back in January and became my first five star fantasy read of 2022. The whole duology now sits amongst my favorite reads of all time because A Fire Endless did not disappoint in the slightest. It's actually my favorite book of the duology if I HAD TO pick one. I’m not sure if I’ll ever experience a book/ series like this again. It was gentle yet dark, empathetic and resilient; The Elements of Cadence was truly a breath of fresh air for the fantasy genre. What made A Fire Endless even better than A River Enchanted was Rebecca Ross's decision to place her lead characters in situations they're uncomfortable with. Sidra? Forced to take up the mantle of running the East. Torin? Forced to interact with the creatures and beings on the island before his loved ones. Adaira and Jack's separation from one another being the last big hoop for the leads. Just everything was perfect in my eyes. The prologue of A Fire Endless is now one of my favorite chapters of the duolgoy because of our new introduction to a special character. The other reason A Fire Endless beats out A River Enchanted as my favorite between the two is the mere fact that A Fire Endless gives us the West. We did our time in the East in book one, and now its time to give the West its due. I remember feeling cozy whenever the East was described in the first book, but all I could feel in the West was tension, suspicion, and pain. It’s a society built off of brute force, and Rebecca did not hold back with showing readers that at all. All the warmth I had felt previously was completely snuffed out like a candle. The significant difference is only exacerbated by Adaira who has only known the East. Her beliefs are stark against the values of her birth parents. Basically, the difference of cultures between the East and West were fascinating to behold. Plus, the whole reason this plot exists for the duology is because of the West, and unraveling that secret was so interesting—I couldn't put my book down!Lastly, the ending. Damn was it beautifully tearful. I never once expected that result in the climax, but I knew from that moment there was no way that would be the end to these characters' stories. It made everything a full circle moment with the change in power, and from the beginning, I knew the beings of the island would get their authority over their lives back. Every one of these characters holds my bookish heart in some way, and I feel so incredibly honored to have gotten to know them. I can't wait for Rebecca to write more adult fantasy.Thank you to HarperVoyager and NetGalley for the eARC access. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

What an absolutely stunning conclusion. This book has ruined me so profoundly, I feel like I'm saying goodbye to a dear friend. *cue waterworks* I love that, compared to the first book (even though this is obviously a continuation of the story), it's so different and in the best ways! It's still the same gorgeous lyricism and exquisite prose, but there's something more...fleshed out about our characters in this one. There was more of an air of mystery and foggy atmosphere in River Enchanted; a fog that slowly melted away in Fire Endless. Our characters, Adaira and Jack especially, seem so much more human - they hurt, they cry, they bleed. Which, again, is not to say that they weren't well defined enough in the first book; it's really just a testament to how beautifully their characters evolved in the second. Jack, particularly, has me wrapped around his musical fingers. There's so many moving pieces and keeping track of them all was sparking all the joy in my heart. Brace yourselves, another quintessential Sarah analogy incoming: River Enchanted was like pulling out a chessboard and setting up the pieces, maybe moving a pawn or two. Fire Endless is where the methodical strategizing comes into play; culminating in a glorious checkmate. I'm truly finding trouble putting into words how in love I am with these books and how crushed I am that they're over. Sidra may as well have thrown me in with her herbs because I feel like I've been ground down into a fine paste (in a good way). If this is what I have to look forward to, then I can't wait to read more by Rebecca Ross. But nonetheless, I will absolutely be rereading these.

Rebecca Ross really just has a way with words. Her stories are always luscious and beautifully written. A River Enchanted was one of my top reads last year and the sequel was a wonderful way to wrap up the ending. I really enjoyed the conflicts that arose and the mysteries that were surrounding the island and it’s inhabitants. The dual story’s were done well. I appreciated how Adaira and Jack maintained their devotion for each other while facing their own hardships. I also loved Sidra and Torin. Their story also found themselves facing hardships but you could feel their love throughout the story. Both couples are often apart in this book but it never feels desolate. It made us readers appreciate when they could finally be reunited. I will say this story revolves more on the spirits and I really enjoyed that. Their involvement in the conflict added another layer to things and often brought more brutal aspects. I found the mythology/ lore fascinating and I really felt compassion for many of the spirits. Kae is definitely a new favorite character of mine! I did see the “plot” twist coming but it didn’t diminish my enjoyment. I thought the ending happened a bit fast and would have liked to see / feel a little bit more from the “shocking” event. It wrapped up very quickly at the end. I would have liked to see maybe an epilogue of a year later or something to check in with our main characters. Overall it was a great story and I think a satisfying ending to The Elements of Cadence. If you loved the first book I think you’ll really enjoy this one. 4.5/5 rounding up Thank you Avon and Harper Voyager/ Harper Voyager and Netgalley for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
