A Hundred Horses Audiobook Summary

Nell is not happy about spending her school vacation with relatives she doesn’t know. Expecting nothing more than silly little cousins and boring farm life, she sneaks along a special suitcase that once belonged to her father. In it, she knows, are the parts of a music box and sixteen miniature painted horses, and she thinks maybe she can fit them all back together.

But the countryside has unexpected surprises. When a half-wild and mysterious girl named Angel steals Nell’s suitcase, the two girls are united in an adventure of Angel’s devising. Nighttime meetings and a horse that might just be magical pique Nell’s curiosity, and soon she may find a way to put together the mystery of who Angel truly is, understand the legends about the herd of a hundred horses, and also discover something special about herself.

Sarah Lean, acclaimed author of A Dog Called Homeless, explores the power of friendship, family, and the truth of belonging in this tale with a touch of magic about two girls, an old farm, and the most special of a hundred horses.

This book is about a girl named Nell. Nell loves to visit her loving nanna where she can play cards and watch TV all day. Nells mother has had to work ever since something happened to her dad. Every year Nells mother goes on a business trip and Nell gets to visit her fun loving nanna. Nells nanna can't watch Nell this year because she has had medical issues. When Nells mother tells her she will be going to the country with her aunt and two younger cousins, Gem and Alfie, she does not want to leave her mother! The mystery revolving around the hundred horses brings nell all the joy she could wish for. I would recommend this book to horse lovers and mystery book lovers. I think Sarah Lean is an amazing author.

I give this book five stars, I love how the writer of the book made it like a little bit of mystery and a little bit of drama. Whenever I would stop reading this book, I got sad or mad at my teacher for making me stop because it was time for something else, I've read this book like 10 times, it is my favorite book ever, I remember ever single scene, even though I read this book 1 or 2 months ago at my latest. I'm so thankful that this book is on this app, if it wasn't, this would not be a really good app... I don't want to spoil much but, I love how Angle is like mysterious, and steals, but her name is Angle. 😆. This book was not long in my opinion, sense I loved the book a lot, I love mysteries, and I love drama in books, I loveeeeeeeeee this book, I hope everybody loves it as much as me!!!

Every time I tried to read this book I always ended up finding something else that I thought I might like more but I finally decided I wanted to try to finish the whole thing, and I'm glade I did because I couldn't stop reading it. Sometimes when I was reading it I tried to predict what was going to happen next and I was so confident about my prediction, but when the part I was predicting came up I was always wrong. I like how this book kept me guessing, which also made me want to read more this is a great book and I am glade I read it.

When Nell was sent to stay with distant family, she packed a suitcase full of secrets. When she got there, she met a girl called Angel. Both girls had secrets, everyone had secrets. But Angel was dangerous, Rita said. Could Nell trust her? Things got stolen, even goats and some blankets. Days have gone by and both girls got closer and closer. The challenge Nell had to take is to find who stole all those things from the neighbours. What I like about this book is that this book is about friendship and trusting each other. I'd give it a 10/10

Eleven-year-old Nell has a very busy schedule during the school year with all her after school activities. There's drama club, math tutor, and swimming club to start. When she gets home, it seems like her mother is always working or on the phone or focused on something else. Nell was looking forward to spending her two weeks of Spring Break with her Nana just playing cards, talking, watching videos and tv. But a medical emergency causes a change of plan and Nell readies herself to spend her weeks with relatives she's never met: Aunt Liv and her two young children on a farm. When Nell packs her bags, she comes across the carousel of metal horses that her father had made. It's the only thing that she has left of him. Her mother had removed all traces of him after he abandoned them. Nell wants to put the carousel together again and worries that her mother might discover this last trace of her father. She hides the carousel with her bag and brings it to Aunt Liv's.Nell's not excited to spend the next weeks with chickens, geese, pigs, horses, cats, five-year-old Gem and seven-year-old Alfie. But Gem and Alfie are so happy to have her with them, introducing her to the animals, baking her cupcakes, showing her all their favorite places. She's the Big Sister-Cousin to them and she loves them back.Nell encounters eleven-year-old Angel and is warned against her. Regarded as a troublemaker and living in the woods, Angel is associated with all sorts of disappearing animals and property. Angel seems surly, hostile, but there's something about her that reminds Nell of herself. Nell learns about Angel and where she stays from her young cousins. Nell searches for Angel and when she does find her, she follows her clues, and slowly makes friends. Angel forces Nell to take risks and keep secrets. But their friendship brings the girls unexpected gifts and an adventure that changes their lives. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Nell and her adventures with her young cousins and Angel. A Hundred Horses is a story of hope, adventure and finding one's way. It drew me in from the start and I'm very much looking forward to sharing the story with my six-year-old niece.Age Range: 8 - 12 yearsGrade Level: 3 - 7ISBN-10: 0062122290 - Hardcover $16.99Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books (January 7, 2014), 224 pages.Review copy courtesy of the publisher.

This is a great story. Sarah Lean did a wonderful job on writing this book. It was about a little girl(Nell) that had to go and stay with her Aunt Liv for 2 weeks along with 2 cousins whom she did not know. She was not looking forward to going and before leaving to go she found a suitcase in the attic that had a carousel inside that her dad had made. She wanted to take this with her and put it together while at the farm. Once she arrived and removed her luggage out of the car, a horse startled her, the next thing she knows, someone stole the suitcase. All she saw was the shoes. Nell can not go inside and tell her mother since she doesn't know what she found in the attic. While she is on the Farm, she found out that another girl named Angel had taken her suitcase. Her cousins told her to be careful around Angel, that she was a liar and a thief. However, once you get to know Angel, you may look at her differently. Things are not always what they seem. Nell continues to go over to try and get her suitcase back. While you are reading the story, even though it is based on Nell, you start relaying the story to Angel and the 99 horses. The major horse is Belle, who is the leader of the other horses. Their is a story about the 100th horse. I don't want to give the story away, yet a colt is born, however, the legs are wobbly and must be tended to. Is the horse special? Could the horse be something mystical? You must read the story and find out. I promise you won't be disappointed. A great book!

The novel A Hundred Horses, written by Sarah Lean, is a realistic fiction book about a girl finding herself through the act of friendship. Nell's parents split up recently and she is forced to spend her vacation with her aunt in the countryside. The only remains of her father are a leather suitcase filled with pieces to build a merry-go-round of horses. In the countryside Nell uncovers a secret of an old wives tale about the 100th horse. With the conflict of a girl named Angel she not only uncovers the secret of the 100th horse but finds a bond of friendship with fire and water. Something that the novel taught me about being truly human is that friendship can come between to very different people. I showed to not judge people by their actions or appearance, but to get to know them because, just like Angel and Nell who were fire and water, and together they made a perfect dynamic duo. I would recommend this book to girls because the narration is from a girls perspective and has friendships very different from a guys friendship. Also i would recommend this to girls who have a love and understanding for horses, because the setting is a countryside farm with animals and horses. As for age group I would recommend it for ages 9-12 because it is an easier read but still has a sophisticated plot open to all female readers.
