A Lady in Disguise Audiobook Summary

It’s a case of mistaken identities and unmistakable attraction in New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands’ classic historical romance, previously published as The Reluctant Reformer!

Lady Maggie Wentworth must support herself as an investigative reporter. Writing under another name, she’s been exposing the notorious scandals of the ton–this time it’s the “working girls” of London. While interviewing the women, a client enters, and Maggie is shocked to see her beau. She changes clothes with one of the girls and flees out the window, only to be whisked away by a stranger.

Lord James is honoring a deathbed promise: watch over his late friend’s sister. Following Maggie to a house of ill repute, he’s stunned to see her emerge dressed as the notorious Lady X! Hard times must have driven her to such a desperate act, and he is intent on reforming the wanton chit. No amount of protest will stop him from saving her reputation. Now if only he can hold his own desires in check–and keep himself from falling in love.

I was in the mood for a Historical Romance, and enjoyed many of Lynsay Sands novels so I figured I was safe. I was right! Sure there were times where I thought the Heroine got into trouble just for fun, and it seemed a bit unrealistic that she could so many times, but then I thought, this was a different time, and it was different for woman, so sure, it could happen! lolAs characters go, I really enjoyed Maggie. Her personility was sweet yet strong. She was strong willed and kind. A true lady. It was fun reading along with her. James was a hit for me. I think I have a thing for strong, mysterious older(not too old! lol) men. When the character is a strong, stern man, and the woman helps him break free, but only for her. I think it's sweet. This book was an enjoyable read for a winter evening. There was mystery, romance, a bit of horror and many good twists. As historical romances go, it was good. I would have liked another book with the same cast, but this is a stand alone novel, so all is well that ends well, I suppose! If your in the mood for a good historical read, I'd check this book out!

Endearing characters, far-fetched plot with absolutely no regard for the proprieties, kind-hearted relatives and affectionate servants. TSTL heroine who was still likable and a lovely beleaguered hero. Slow in parts but many laugh out loud totally nonsensical situations. A good read.

I’ve learned to go into a Sands book knowing it’ll be ridiculous and the heroine will probably be TSTL. Now that I have those expectations, I know what mood to be in when picking up her books so that enjoy them rather than be annoyed.

I laughed loudly in my car while listening to this a few times and again when I walked into work listening its very last 3 minutes. A book that can keep you entertained throughout most certainly deserves praise. I LOVED this one!A Lady in Disguise had everything I was looking for in a book, a little it of adventure, some mystery, some suspense, a swoon worthy romance, and some very steamy scenes.Maggie is not what she appears to be or you would expect. She has seen a lot by masquerading as someone else and writing risque articles. Obviously she has to research for those and she puts herself in quite a bit of trouble and some hilarious predicaments while doing so. James and Maggie's paths cross in one of those said predicaments. It was bad enough he thought she was working as a prostitute. James is a noble man, even if a bit uptight. When he meets Maggie he is so focus on protecting his dead friend's sister he doesn't stop to ask or wonder if she is actually working as a prostitute. All he sees is a problem he has to fix even if she drives him mad with desire. I seriously could not stop listening to this. The banter going on between them, the chemistry, the side characters... all of it was absolute perfection. And the ending? the ending was perfect, swoon worthy, and hilarious! And as a closing note--> I have never been a big historical romance reader, but now that I get a few goodies with Libro.fm I might just turn into one. It is so much easier to listen to them than it is to read. Keep that in mind if you are new to sub-genre!"Hmm. Love of books, love on books, love among books."will just leave this here... use your imagination! :)

Oh my god, I loved this book so damn much! The premise was what initially drew me in. The misunderstanding between Maggie and James had me laughing nonstop. It was all sorts of ridiculous, but the way it was executed never felt forced. The situation was just believable enough that I was willing to go along with it. Just their conversations were great because you could see the double meaning depending on whose point of view it was. Both characters were a lot of fun, very lighthearted and lacking in too much angst and drama. It was one of those rare times where I read a book and am not extremely exasperated by the hero or heroine’s actions. There were a few dumb moments, but nothing that truly bothered me. Maggie and James were just a nice cute couple. The chemistry was on point between them and the constant library scenes had me cracking up.That said, the story took a turn towards the end that I was kind of whatever about. Like, why does every historical romance have to add in a plotline where (view spoiler)[the heroine is in danger by some unknown person trying to hurt her (hide spoiler)]? I mean, I didn’t hate it, but if it had been left out I wouldn’t have minded. I just loved the humorous vibe in the beginning where the focus was solely on the two leads interactions so much more.

This is one of my favorite writers and this book was great. This book had adventure, mystery and romance. The story takes you on many twist and turns and makes you laugh. This is the story of Maggie and James. Maggie's Brother died in war and he had made one of his friends promise to watch over his sister. While Maggie was going through her brothers things she found out he was a writer and she need a way to supplement her income so she took over writing the stories. While investing a story she is kidnapped.....James had promised Gerald on his death bed to watch over his sister. When he was released from the Army he does that. While watching her from a distance he miss takes her to be Lady X and is going to reform her. He comes up with a plan and kidnaps her. His plan did not account for him having an attraction and desire for herAs the plan un folds he finds his information incorrect and the adventure starts here when someone tries to kill her. Can he protect her can he get his desire under control...…….

A Lady In Disguise, formerly titled as The Reluctant Reformer by Lynsay Sands, is about Lady Maggie Wentworth’s adventurous romance. While interviewing the “working” girls when a client enters, and she is shocked to see her beau. She changes clothes with one of the girls and flees out of the window, only to be whisked away by a stranger. Lord James, honoring his deathbed promise to watch over his late friend’s sister, is shocked to see her emerge as the notorious Lady X! Hard times must have driven her to such a desperate act, and he is intent on reforming the wanton chit. Now if only he can hold his own desire in check—and keep himself from falling in love. Lynsay Sands cleverly creates a humorous tongue-in-cheek misunderstanding between Maggie and James when it comes to her “job”. James’ poor aunt catches him with his pants down—literally. A Lady In Disguise is a delightful, funny romance of he said, she said any reader will enjoy.

3.5 starsI love Lynsay Sands historical romances. They usually have a lot of fun banter and amusing situations. A Lady in Disguise is one of her earlier offerings that is being re-issued by Avon. This one is a stand alone and I had a lot of fun reading it. The chemistry between Maggie and James was off the charts. Their banter was a lot of fun. Maggie could be a frustrating character at times because she kept putting herself into dangerous situations. Someone was trying to kill her, but she kept brushing that off. Still, I didn't call the culprit, so that was a nice surprise. I do recommend this one. It was an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.

A Lady in DisguiseHere is another wonderful story by Lynsay Sands. The Hero promises her brother that he would watch over her be that was her brother dying wish. The Hero kidnapped the Heroine because of the profession she choose which was a misunderstanding on his part because someone told him the wrong information. The someone is tries to kill the Heroine and Heroine doesn't know why. The Hero is trying to protect her but she seems always to be getting into things. I hope you will enjoy this story as much as I did. Lyndsay Sands. I have read all of her books, except the vampires books, and have enjoyed all of them.

This was dumb, well-written fun. I typically look down a little on romance novels but this was really good and I am happy to admit enjoying reading it. Essentially it's a swash-buckling series of hijinks in early 19th century London and it had me actually laughing out loud (which is probably a first for a romance!)I was looking for something lighter to read in between some heavier non-fics at the moment and this really hit the spot. I only subtracted one star because the final third was more straight and narrow compared to the fun shenanigans in the beginning.

Loved it. Very intriguing tale. Mistaken identities, talking at cross purposes, disguises, masks (literal and emotional), pledges of honor, hilarious and embarrassing situations, dangerous idiotic ideas, secrets kept and revealed, friendships and family. All these things made for an exciting roller coaster ride of this book filled with laughter, tears and heart. I especially like the list of reasons he loves her.

This book has to be one of the best I've read this year. Maggie is a wonderful character full of brass but at the same time is completely unaware of what she is doing. Ms. Sands once again has written a book that I will return to many times over the coming years, just to enjoy the humor and romance of her unique and lovable characters.
