A Little Too Much Audiobook Summary

In the follow-up to Lisa Desrochers’ explosive new adult novel A Little Too Far, Alessandro Moretti must face the life he escaped and the girl he left behind.

Twenty-two-year-old Hilary McIntyre would like nothing more than to forget her past. As a teenager abandoned to the system, she faced some pretty dark times. But now that’s all behind her. Hilary has her life on track, and there’s no way she’ll head down that road again.

Until Alessandro Moretti–the one person who can make her remember–shows up on her doorstep. He’s even more devastatingly gorgeous than before, and he’s much too close for comfort. Worse, he sees right through the walls she’s built over these last eight years, right into her heart and the secrets she’s guarding.

As Hilary finds herself falling back in love with the man who, as a boy, both saved and destroyed her, she must decide: Past or future? Truth or lies?

4 Stars!!! While reading A Little Too Far, I fell in love with Alessandro Moretti. I was glad to hear he was getting his own story. I’m happy to say it didn’t disappoint. I enjoyed this just as much (maybe even a bit more) than the first book! Alessandro had a tough life growing up. Even though he has spent the last few years of his life serving others, he feels broken and lost, living a life full of guilt for his past. One of the main things he feels guilty for, the ghost that has followed him around all these years is Hilary. He does what he feels he needs to do. Leaves his home and family to go to NYC and find her. He needs to make amends, own up to his past mistakes and hopefully find forgiveness. Hilary is living in the city with her ‘kind of’ boyfriend, working at a bar and trying to live her dream. She is a singer, an actress, and she wants nothing more than to end up on Broadway. Her life isn’t perfect, but she has her sister, brother-in-law and nephews, and she’s following her dream. Hilary has things in her past she’d like to forget, it’s just easier that way. Well, until someone from her past shows up on her doorstep. The one person from her past who was always there for her, the one who left her. He opened me up and saw my black, broken soul, and it didn’t scare him away. He made me believe everything was going to be okay. He helped me understand love. Then a month later, he left. Just like everyone else. Hilary and Alessandro’s past is a tangled web. The more you learn about them, the more tangled it becomes. It’s complicated. Hilary and Alessandro spent time together and got to know each other in a group home as teens. She also met Alessandro’s brother, Lorenzo there. Hilary became particularly close to Alessandro, then one day, he just disappeared. Left her just like everyone else. Alessandro feels guilt for leaving her the way he did, but he doesn’t know exactly what he left behind, and Hilary wants to keep it that way. All Alessandro wants is for Hilary to let him in, talk to him, and find it in her to forgive him for his past mistakes. Despite everything that happened in the past, Hilary and Alessandro become friends again, take on weekly NYC excursions. They get to know each other again, the feelings they share for one another start to intensify. They have a fiery chemistry that neither can deny no matter how hard they try.Alessandro wants Hilary, he always has, but thats not why he’s here. He’s here to help her, heal her in anyway he can. He never could get past the things his brother did, how he left her. Until he can get forgiveness and closure from her, he can’t move on. Being together in that way would just complicate everything. But he’s not sure if he can stay away. These two share more than a physical connection. They both have held on to the love they felt in the past for one another, even if they didn’t know it. Hilary needs to know that Alessandro won’t leave again before anything happens. She couldn’t deal if he left her again. “All I can offer you are painful memories and my broken soul, but I love you, and if you allow it, I promise to always love you. If that’s enough for you, then, yes, I’m back.” There is a slow burn between the two of them. Everything is starting to come together the way it should, then you get blown away. There was a definite shocking moment here. A secret from the past that will change everything between the two of them. Being with him again might gain me back my soul, but at what cost? Too much has happened. There are too many secrets. I have so much to gain, but more to lose. I have everything to lose. I adored everything about Alessandro Moretti. Alessandro is kind, patient, caring, sincere, honest, swoony and sweet. I love how he treats people. Not just Hilary, but everyone. I loved getting his whole story, not just the bits and pieces we got from the first book. Hilary is a great heroine. I actually enjoyed reading from her point of view, getting the back story between her and Alessandro. She is broken and struggling, but she is strong. She has a shield up to protect herself, but eventually Alessandro starts to chip away and see the real girl underneath. She is really a beautiful person. A Little Too Much was an endearing and sexy story of heartbreak, healing, following your dreams, second chances, and love. A companion novel to A Little Too Far, this can be read as a stand alone, but I would highly recommend reading book one first. Not only does it give you some insight to Alessandro and his past, it’s just a really great book. I really enjoy this author’s writing style, the words just flow. A great addition to this series. Fans of the New Adult genre should definitely check it out! This is where I’ve always belonged.“Everything that’s happened to me has happened for a reason. It’s all brought me to right here, right now. To you.” ***ARC kindly provided by William Morrow via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.***

Find this review and more at kimberlyfaye reads . "Just like in Shakespeare, when you fall head over heels in love with someone you don't even know, it's never going to end well. Love killed Juliet when she was thirteen. I made it all the way to fourteen before it nearly killed me." Hilary McIntyre is twenty-two and living in New York City with her boyfriend. She's trying desperately to make it big as an actress. She's also trying to forget her past. It's working pretty well until her past shows up on her doorstep. Literally. Alessandro Moretti has traveled to New York to see firsthand how Hilary is. He never meant for her to know he was there, but fate intervenes and they're face-to-face for the first time in eight years. "I want to see him as uncomfortable as he makes me. I want to see him squirm. And I definitely know how to make men squirm." To say Hilary and Alessandro have a complicated past would be a ginormous understatement. They had very strong feelings for one another once upon a time, but their time together back then didn't end well. They're both damaged and broken, but for very different reasons. Hilary never quite got over the fact that Alessandro disappeared from her life all those years ago. Alessandro feels guilt for leaving her – and about other things that happened when they were at the foster home together. He feels remorse over the death of his brother, Lorenzo, who was … well, not a very nice guy. He worked over both Hilary and Alessandro in the past. But, he's gone now and Alessandro is trying to ease his guilt. "You meant something to me, Hilary. You were important to me once. I just needed to know you were okay. I needed to see for myself." He shakes his head. "You were never supposed to know I was here." I liked Alessandro in A Little Too Far. A lot. He was swoony, sexy and sincere. I can absolutely understand why Lexie was attracted to him. There was just something that bothered me about him. I know now what it was. It's that he just didn't fit with Lexie. She belonged with Trent. I fell head-over-heels in love with Alessandro in this book. There was so much more to him than met the eye. Sure, in ALTF, we readers learned about his troubled past and the violence and drug use that occurred, but we didn't get the whole story. There's much more to learn. He's steaming hot and sexual, he has a great sense of humor, he's on a quest for closure and absolution, he's conflicted. He is kind-hearted and a good person. We got a dose of all of this with Lexie in ALTF, but it was just so much stronger in this book. It was a little hard to believe that this Alessandro almost became a priest. Thankfully for us all, he didn't. "But now Alessandro's here, and I feel the dead parts of me coming back to life. Being with him again might gain me back my soul, but at what cost?" Hilary and Alessandro try to put the past behind them and be friends again. He decides to stick around New York a little longer than he originally intended. She's been in the city for quite awhile, but hasn't really seen much of what it has to offer. Together they begin to explore the sites – and ultimately their feelings for each other. The scenes with them just hanging out around the city are some of my favorites, because a) I love love love New York and Lisa's writing made me feel like I was there and b) their chemistry is so strong, their personalities so well-matched, that they just left me smiling. "I have no right to want to touch you, and yet I want that more than anything – to convince all of my senses you're really here after all this time." As time goes on, Hilary wonders what having Alessandro back in her life really means. It's obvious that they both still have strong feelings for the other. Their chemistry leaps off the page. There's a slow burn of sexual tension. But more than all the physical stuff, they share genuine, intense feelings. They're both so much better when they're together. Will they be able to overcome their pasts and have a real future together? Will he leave again and break her fully this time? Will he be able to get past his guilt for what happened in their past and with his brother? You just need to read it for yourself to find out. Maybe I'm blind, but I didn't see the twist in this book coming. I literally gasped. Then, just so I wouldn't forget, I made a note in my Kindle app with "GASP!" written again. It all made perfect sense, but I definitely didn't figure it out on my own. It, to me, is what made the story. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure I would have loved Hilary and Alessandro just as much had the story not gone in the direction it did. But this added another level of emotion to their relationship and their history. Some of my favorite scenes in the book, the ones I won't talk about because I refuse to spoil anything, happen as a result of this revelation. Lisa Desrochers has rocked my world once again. A Little Too Far landed her on my auto-buy author list. A Little Too Much moved her to the top. I got everything I wanted in this book: second chances, smoking-hot sexy scenes and true love. It took me on a full roller coaster ride that I wouldn't trade for anything. Sweet, heartfelt and beautifully-written, this is one of my favorite books of the year. (Even higher on the list than A Little Too Far, which I swooned and gushed over a few months ago.)I received a copy of this book from the publisher, via Edelweiss, in exchange for an honest review. All quotes come from the review copy and may differ from the final version.

I waited for this book with bated breath. I absolutely fell head over heels with Alessandro in A Little Too Far and was heartbroken when Lexi didn’t choose him. If the story had ended there I would forever have a dark whole in my heart for this man. That is what Alessandro does to you. He gets into your soul. I was so glad he would have his own story and it did not disappoint. When we learn of his early life and tribulations my heart ached for him. You could feel his guilt and sorrow coming through the pages. Yet for all of this sorrow, he was a strong man. He never blamed anyone for his past but himself. There were so many he could have blamed; his father for dying, his mother for falling apart after his father’s death, his brother, Lorenzo, for leading him down a path of destruction, the group home for pulling him further down the path. But being the Alessandro that we know, he is a man who takes ownership of his faults and tries everything to make amends. Even to going so far as to become a priest. I am quite grateful however, that Alessandro does not become a priest. He is just too sexy and smoldering for that. He does however, at the coercion of Hillary, come back to the church via the youth center which he later becomes the Director of Teen Services for. The first time Alessandro goes to church on Christmas with Hillary, was so touching. He was so hesitant to make communion, but finally does, almost shamefully. As if he was afraid people knew of his failure as a priest.Throughout this book Alessandro and Hillary go on little Thursday voyages all over the city. Living so close to NYC as I do, I was glad that they chose to explore the unknown New York. Many of these journeys were in intimate settings allowing them to rediscover each other. Eventually, after many Thursdays, they both realize that have developed feelings for each other again. The sexual tension is palpable. This book is a roller coaster ride of emotions and I am so glad I read it. Their story is one of love, tragedy, pain, lust and happiness. These people have been through hell and back and come out in the end together. Alessandro and his spicy scent will forever be burned into my book reading brain.

My Thoughts:A Little Too Much, by Lisa Desrochers, is the sequel to A Little Too Far. I absolutely LOVED, A Little Too Far and even thought I think that Lexie ended up with the right man, I felt so bad for Alessandro, and wanted him to get his "happily ever after." Alessandro was a beautiful character. He had a heart of gold, and a soul filled with darkness from the heavy burdens of his past. Alessandro had decided to become a priest as reparation for all the people he hurt in his teenage years. Yet, his heavy soul was never assuaged. After he met Lexie, and realized that he was not meant for the priesthood, he decided to seek out Hilary, the first girl he had ever loved, and the person from his past that haunted him the most. Hilary was a very complex character. She had a very difficult, and dark past. Her older sister Mallory, was the only one that she could count on, and she loved her sister very much. Mallory had married Jeff, and they had two children, Henri, and Max, that Hilary was very attached to. Hilary and Mallory's mother had been put in prison for murder, and that left Hilary in a group home, as a teenager, where she met Alessandro and his older brother. Mallory had to go through the courts in order to get custody of Hilary, and the whole process took quite a while. In the meantime, Hilary and Alessandro fell in love, and helped each other to get through one of the hardest times in their lives. They were one another's only spark of sunshine in a dark and dreary time. They both never forgot the other, and had become ingrained in each others souls.Alessandro appears in New York on Hilary's doorstep, completely shocking her, and catching her off guard. He has come to make sure that she is all right, because she is one of the ghosts that has haunted him the most throughout the years. Hilary is an aspiring actress, but hasn't gotten her big break yet. She loves acting because it helps her escape reality. Hilary currently lives with her boyfriend, also an actor, Brett. She doesn't love Brett, and there relationship lacks real intimacy. It's strictly sex, and convenience. When Alessandro arrives in town, the two of them begin to spend a lot of time together, old feelings are rekindled, the demons from their past come to the surface, and both of their lives get turned upside down.I enjoyed, A Little Too Much. A Little Too Far is still my favorite, but I think that story was a lot lighter. A Little Too Much was darker, filled with a lot of angst, and the harsh realities that happen in life. The "vibe" was a lot different, and this story made my heart heavy. There's no doubt, that Ms. Desrochers knows how to create gorgeous, and swoon worthy male characters! The love scenes were very explicit, erotic, and down right H-O-T! I loved how she nailed the emotions that Alessandro and Hilary went through in their story. It made everything that much more intense, and explosive. My Rating:I give A Little Too Much by Lisa Desrochers 4 Dark, Gritty, Intense, Passionate, and Healing Stars! Ms. Desrochers is establishing her voice in the New Adult genre. The male characters that she creates are so delicious, you'll find yourself wishing they were real. She is very good at establishing setting. I've never been to New York, but as I was reading this story, I felt like I was exploring the city, the art, theatre, and every little nook and cranny in the city. I was crammed on the subway, walking in the crowds of people, and taking in the skyline view from Alessandro's condo. The sex scenes were so realistic, and every girls wildest fantasy's come true. Ms. Desrochers male characters sure do know how to bring a woman to her knees! If you are a fan of J. Lynn, Abbi Glines, or Elizabeth Reyes, you should definitely check out Lisa Desrochers! My Favorite Quotes:"Alessandro made me dizzy. I think that's the second I knew I loved him, because in anybody else's arms, I felt trapped, but in his, I felt free." (eARC, Loc. 1322)~Hilary" 'You want perspective? I'll give you mine. You did help me. You helped me finally feel something after years of being numb. You helped me find happiness in the middle of my own personal hell. You helped me understand what lo--' I cut off mid rant when I realize what I was about to say." (eARC, Loc. 2248)~Hilary"He looks down into my eyes for a long minute, the smile fading from his lips. 'I have no right to want to touch you, and yet I want that more than anything--to convince all of my senses you're really here after all this time.' My Rating: 4.5/5Steamy, emotional, romantic, and full of secrets, A Little Too Much was a fantastic New Adult romance. It was a lovely sequel to the absolutely amazing A Little Too Far and I really enjoyed reading it. Loved it!Hilary was a heroine who had been through a lot. She was toted around in the foster care system, manipulated by guys who only wanted her body and couldn't care less what she wanted, and faced the consequences of that. After being burned so many times, she was not willing to take a risk with her heart. Until a ghost from her past reappears and her plans go out the window. I really liked Hilary. She was a tough woman who had been through a lot, but was still standing. Even though she was guarding her heart, she knew when to take risks and hope for the best. If I had one complaint, it was that I wasn't sure why she was so angry at Alessandro at first, considering he was one of the only people who actually treated her well. Otherwise, she was lovely. Alessandro...What can I say? I already fell for him in A Little Too Far, even though I had been rooting for Trent to end up with Lexie. I totally adored him and, when I found out that he was going to get his own story and his own happy ending, I was ecstatic. He was still just as adorable and sweet and absolutely perfect in this book. But, we get to know him more. In book 1, we mostly saw the polished surface that Alessandro had worked so hard to create and maintain. We got to know him a little deeper, and got to understand some of his past, but not that much. In this book, we see every one of those layers and get to see how dark his past was until he left it all behind. It made him even more lovable because he managed to become such a good person even after everything he had gone through. I completely and totally loved him and I thought he was perfection. The romance was wonderful. Hilary and Alessandro were sweet together. They were the kind of couple that made each other stronger and I thought that was lovely. I wasn't feeling the chemistry quite as much as I was in book 1, but it was still steamy and hot. Definitely enough to make you fan your face ;) I thought they were perfect together. The plot was fast paced. I was hooked most of the way through. There were some moments when the plot slowed down, but it wasn't too bad, not enough to be an issue. There were definitely some shocking secrets that I never saw coming. Particularly one that totally blew me away. It explained a lot and made sense in hindsight, but I never suspected. I really enjoyed the story and the ending was lovely. I can't wait to read more from this hot and steamy series!A Little Too Much was a brilliant New Adult romance. I totally loved this book. It was sweet, steamy, emotional, and full of secrets. Fans of book 1, you won't be disappointed with this sequel. And, if you haven't started this series yet, you definitely need to, because these books are HOT!*I received a free copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

The four stars are only for Alessandro....I am not going deep into this review, since many have said it all before me. I loved A Little too Far! I actually liked how (view spoiler)[Lexie and Trent got their HEA, but, if for whatever reason, Lexie had ended up with Alessandro I would have totally be ok with it too because he was an amazing character!... (hide spoiler)] I loved that he got his own book and mostly due to his decision to face his "ghosts" and went back to look for the only other girl that ever mattered to him. I liked Hillary, but I started liking her up until after 50% of the book. Why? She had issues, yes. She suffered, yes. But sometimes those things that were spitting out from her head were kind of lame, sometimes slutty, hurtful, and made no sense. But later on I enjoyed reading how she evolves and redeems herself. The truth is I would have loved to read something more Epic! Mr. Moretti deserved epic! And I felt Hillary lacking on that department. Nevertheless the book had great moments, and I cannot thank the author enough because these characters harvested a friendship and “fell” (for real) for each other after a month (at least), even if they knew each other from their messed up teenage years. I loved their Thursdays and had me thinking it would be such a beautiful thing to do with my hubby (sadly not going to happen unless hell freezes over) LOL!The coffee table scenes were adorable… I fell for him deeper after those. He was such a sweetheart a 100% decent, gentleman!... and catholic! I want one of those.

Better late then never. lol The follow-up to A Little To Far gives us a heart wrenching coming of age story of love, loss, forgiveness, and redemption when a young man comes home and reconnects with the woman he once loved and had to leave behind. Emotionally deep with a realism that wasn't quite as defined in book one, Lisa Desrochers captures the tone and voices of her characters perfectly as she helps them discover and slay the ghosts of their pasts in order to have the future they so richly deserve.

I wanted to love to book, but I already knew that wasn't going to happen.Don't get me wrong the story is very good and the writing makes you connect with the characters. And I think if I hadn't read the first book I'd have liked this book more. But in A Little Too Far I fell in love with Alessandro and I believe he should have ended up with Lexie.

Originally posted at City of BooksA Little Too Much is an incredible follow-up to one of my favourite NA novels. It's a beautiful blend of romance, drama and humour, and the intensity of the emotions you'll come across in this book will blow you away. Lisa Desrochers is an amazing author, and this novel kept me up late at night because I just couldn't put it down. When I found out that A Little Too Much is Alessandro's story, I freaked out. I loved him so much in the first book, and I'd been dying to see his happy ending. Though this book is solely in Hilary's point of view, we get to know so much about the two of them as individuals as well as together. They both share a dark past, something they'd rather forget, but in the end it's that past that brings them together in the present. They begin to realize how much they mean to one another, and slowly, deeply buried feelings find their way back into the light. If you loved Alessandro in the first book, I guarantee you'll love him even more in this one. What we don't get to see much in A Little Too Far is his amazing sense of humour. The cockroach prank in this book had me laughing every single time! He's definitely more relaxed in a way, but at the same time it's clear he's still getting over Lexie and the fact that he almost became a priest. On top of that, he hasn't forgiven himself for everything that happened in the group home with him, Hilary, and his brother Lorenzo. I felt for Alessandro so much throughout the novel. And I really admire him for all the good he's doing to make up for his past.Hilary is a no-nonsense kind of girl, blunt and tough. She's an aspiring actress, though she's still trying to get her big break. I loved her from the beginning, though I didn't like the fact that she and her 'boyfriend' Brett just used each other for their own needs. I think she should have got out of that relationship a long time ago. But thank goodness Alessandro shows up to knock some sense into her. I really loved their interaction over the course of the novel. Their weekly Thursday hangouts, their free attitudes with each other... It's obvious that the two of them have great chemistry and are really good for one another. Sure, there are dark secrets between them and Hilary has some residual trust issues after what happened between them all those years ago, but the way they work it out is really sweet. There are a few twists in this one that I figured out from the hints dropped, but they shocked me nonetheless. The later part of the book is really intense, but so well-written that everything just flowed with the story. Moreover, the humour embedded throughout definitely cracked me up when things got too serious. In fact, the very last line of the book had me bursting into laughter! I loved the character development of the protagonists; it was great to see how much they've grown and changed over just a few months. And even though Lexie and Trent don't make an appearance in this book, we still find out how they're doing, through a letter sent by Lexie. That was a nice touch, since I was dying to know how things turned out for them! Overall, A Little Too Much is definitely one of my top NAs, and I'm really looking forward to more from Desrochers, in A Little Too Hot.*Thank you to HarperCollins for providing me with an ARC for review*

A Little Too Much by Lisa Desrochers is an Avon publication released in November 2013. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher and Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.Hilary has had a very hard life for a woman just entering her twenties. Having survived the horrors of living in a group home and with a mother in prison, Hilary has pulled herself together the best she could. She now works hard to become a singer and dancer on Broadway. She has a boyfriend, but there is little real emotional attachments since Hilary "doesn't do love". When Alessandro shows up on her doorstep out of the blue, Hilary's past comes rushing back. When they were in the group home together, Alessandro and his troubled older brother, Lorenzo were both involved with Hilary. Alessandro has decided not to enter the priesthood after all, but still feels the weight of his brother's death and the crimes they were both a part of. Needing to make some sort of peace with the girl he feels like he took advantage of, Alessandro begs for Hilary's forgiveness. Initially, Hilary isn't in a forgiving mood. As the story progresses we are given insight into what life was like in the group home. Hilary was sexually active way too early in her life to emotionally cope. Lorenzo was rough and was all Hilary had to go on. Alessandro showed her the difference, but he and Lorenzo left her and she became a victim to some pretty rough characters in the home. For years, Hilary has blamed Alessandro for his abandonment. Now each week the two meet and try to put the painful past to rest. However, there are some HUGE reveals that will either bring everyone closer together or it will tear them all apart.Alessandro and Hilary's story is a little more on the dark side. Hilary is fortunate to have come out of her teens without being in worse shape. Alessandro is the same way. Both of them were victims of poor parenting and a lack of supervision and familial love. I had some issues with Mallory and some issues with Alessandro as well. Mallory attempted to control the situation, but not because she thought she was doing the right thing for all concerned, but because she was thinking of herself. Then, Alessandro was frustrating by being way too passive. Hilary's accusations were spot on. Alessandro needed to show a little more backbone and be a man. I liked Hilary the most, and admired her for having survived a terrible beginning in life and for being strong enough to forgive and help others to forgive as well. The ending was perfect. The acknowledgment of the fact that Hilary will still have many issues to face and will need for Alessandro to be patient with her was more realistic than trying to convince us that everything will be a bed of roses for everyone in the future. There is still a very complicated family dynamic that will require a lot of give and take to make it all work and that won't be easy. Everyone is off to a good start though and I was very happy with the way it all came out.Overall this one is an A.

I absolutely loved A Little Too Far, the first book in this series by Lisa Desrochers. It introduced us to Alessandro, the to-be priest who fell in love and left his calling just days before his ordination. He gets his heart broken and I was one of the many who wanted him to find the love, the happiness he deserves…. and in comes his story in A Little Too Much. The book is not told in Alessandro’s POV. It’s told in Hilary’s. Remember Hilary? The only girl Alessandro has ever slept with and his best friend at the group home in New York. She still lives in New York. Has her life figured out… well… almost. She dreams about making it big in Broadway. She lives with her boyfriend Brett, who’s more like a friend with benefits And while her life is not perfect, she doesn’t need the complication Alessandro brings to it.Yes, Alessandro tracks her down. Since leaving Rome, he’s decided to come back to New York and atone for his sins. His first? Sleeping with a 14 year old Hilary, and ruining her life – or so he thinks. They soon find out that it’s easier to fall into their old friendship than either of them thought. But Hilary has secrets, deep dark ones that Alessandro can never find out about. What a beautiful story. Alessandro is the perfect hero. He loves so intensely… even as a little boy he helped heal people… helped heal a broken Hilary. It wasn’t until later, when he made me feel things I’d never felt before, that I realized sex to Alessandro was more than just physical. He opened me up and saw my black, broken soul, and it didn’t scare him away. He made me believe everything was going to be okay. He helped me understand love. And years later he’s come back to do the same. Only this time he meets a hardened Hilary. And it’s going to be hard breaking down the barriers she’s erected around her heart. But however hard Hilary tries, she can’t deny her feelings for him.I think that’s the second I knew I loved him, because in anybody’s arms I felt trapped, but in his, I felt free. But Hilary can’t have him close. He sees too much. He’ll figure out things he doesn’t need to know. And believe me when I finally found out, it shocked me. I love when that happens, when the author completely blind sides me. And though they go through it all… though they suffer… they belong together… always have.I roll onto my stomach and lay my head on his chest. His heartbeat is slow and sure and I feel mine begin to slow, synching with his. He’s always been able to do this for me. When we were kids. Now. It’s like he’s the key to my soul.Sigh. A beautiful love story. It had the right amount of heartache, angst, humor, hope, love … just beautiful. I love Lisa Desrocher’s way of story telling. It’s not just about love and angst… her books are a lesson, a journey. In Book #1 it was a journey to Rome and Roman Art, in book #2, New York A definite must-read for lovers of Contemporary Romance.

(Original post at Doing Some Reading)I am very surprised at how much I enjoyed reading this book. Lisa Desrochers did a fabulous job at creating characters that had many many layers and depth that we couldn’t help but love and hope for a happy ever after. I’ll have to admit that if you didn’t tear up from reading this book I don’t know what you are but a punk.As you may well know, Alessandro was a super important character from Lisa’s first book, A Little Too Far. We met him in Rome days before promising himself to God to become a priest. And as you will know, he didn’t take that oath as this is his story, although told from a girl whom he had sinned and is a ghost in his dark and shadowy past, this was still an amazing read into his life.Hilary McIntyre also is a character that had a lot of work put into her. Her past was so surprising that I was speechless as I read. I have to admit that I had to stop and pause in my thinking many times just to let everything sink in. She was so real that I wanted to go mad with reading. Not saying that it was a bad thing because it is a really good thing, but I just…. I really felt for her. Everything she did was so normal and understanding that I had to like her. Though I hated some of the things she said to herself and thought about others, like calling a lady she didn’t even know a b…. because she was jealous while the lady was helping her learn to dance. That just really got me huffing and rolling my eyes in aghast. But I supposed that’s how a 23 year old woman think like.Since this is in the POV of Hilary we don’t get to know what’s going through Alessandro’s mind but only see it through his actions and facial expressions.I have to say I absolutely love Alessandro. Knowing him from the previous book and then knowing him in this is just a dream come true. Even though we still don’t get to see it through his POV it is still an accomplishment to know his past and how much he wants to change and make things better for his and Hilary’s future. He’s so understanding and maybe that was due to the fact that he was supposed to be a priest but knowing his childhood, he has always been the protective and sensitive type. Though he had done wrong, it wasn’t through him alone but with his older brother whom he idolized that got him to sin. You know from his actions that he loves Hilary through his self control and friendship with her. And I absolutely Love him for that. This was an amazingly heart pulling, romantic, and forgiving love story. I highly recommend. And you don’t have to read the first book to know the story! This eARC was provided by Avon via Edelwiess.4.5 out of 5
