All Broke Down Audiobook Summary

In this second book in New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Cora Carmack’s New Adult, Texas-set Rusk University series, which began with All Lined Up, a young woman discovers that you can’t only fight for what you believe in . . . sometimes you have to fight for what you love

Dylan fights for lost causes. Probably because she used to be one.

Environmental issues, civil rights, education–you name it, she’s probably been involved in a protest. When her latest cause lands her in jail for a few hours, she meets Silas Moore. He’s in for a different kind of fighting. And though he’s arrogant and not at all her type, she can’t help being fascinated with him. Yet another lost cause.

Football and trouble are the only things that have ever come naturally to Silas. And it’s trouble that lands him in a cell next to do-gooder Dylan. He’s met girls like her before–fixers, he calls them, desperate to heal the damage and make him into their ideal boyfriend. But he doesn’t think he’s broken, and he definitely doesn’t need a girlfriend trying to change him. Until, that is, his anger issues and rash decisions threaten the only thing he really cares about, his spot on the Rusk University football team. Dylan might just be the perfect girl to help.

Because Silas Moore needs some fixing after all.

4 Stars! If you are a die-hard fan of sports romance, you are bound to adore yet another great book from the Rusk University series. All Broke Down is a sweet and angst-driven college romance book that heavily explores family drama, told by both main characters Silas Moore and Dylan Brenner.Silas is the running back of Rusk University's football team. When his friend Levi was expelled from the school and the football team, he felt like everything is crumbling down and his horrible past seems to come back. One night he got involved in a bar fight with Levi which led him to jail. At the holding cell, he met the blonde rich girl Dylan who also happened to be arrested because of her involvement with a student activism that caused a conflict.I didn't initially warm up to the story at first because of the insta-love (sort of insta-attraction) thing that happened but then as the story went on, I realized that Silas and Dylan's relationship was more than just instant. Their friends-with-benefits "deal" actually made me look forward to seeing them leveling their relationship up and be together as a couple. The book had a good dash of sweet romance and oh my... there were loads of steamy scenes too which was something that I didn't expect (The first book All Lined Up wasn't this hot, you know). I found Silas and Dylan's chemistry really undeniable from start to finish.I just had a little issue with Silas. He was really such a jerk at times. I wanted to see some effort on his part when it comes to making Dylan feel a little bit special but I thought Dylan was the only one who worked too hard here. I loved the ending but I wasn't really that fully satisfied because of some unresolved conflicts. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the story as a whole. All Broke Down kept me on my toes and had me all up my feels, enough for me to overlook my issues. I loved most of Dylan and Silas's interactions and Cora Carmack's beautiful writing once again sucked me in, so this was an overall winner for me.

I drop my head against the steering wheel and groan. So much for keeping things simple. “You are in so much trouble, Dylan Brenner.”And trouble’s name is Silas Moore. Oh em gee…This is a literal OMG. I started another book that made my eyes burn on the SECOND PAGE and thought shit, what will I read now?? So, on Friday at 10 pm (what…I have a life-I DO!), when my book didn’t work, I went to another that my lovely lovely Jennfier had bought me…and from page one on…I WAS A GONER. "Are you hurt?” I ask.A flash of a smile has a field of goose bumps sprouting along my arms. “You worried about me, Pickle?”I throw my head back and groan.“I’m going to kill him.” One word, Y’all…one word: SILAS. I just…I can’t even. This book just popped out at me one day and I couldn’t help but mark it as TBR. I mean…football. But I never thought I’d actually read it, ya know?? I thought it was a filler that would sit there for years and eventually I would delete it on one of my epic TBR sweeps (just did one recently, Hallelujah!). But no, for some reason, on a late Friday night when I needed a pick me up, fate led me to this hidden gem…and I couldn’t be a happier little Silas fangirl. XD And…fuck. Just fuck. I could probably live the rest of my life only using that word and it would sum things up fine. So, here’s the deal, I’m guna level with you all-I have written a LOT of fangirl reviews lately. A LOT. A LOT A LOT. And I am tired, lol. I HATE when this happens right when I read a wonderful book that was not only well-written and sexy, but surprisingly heartfelt and addicting without being trashy. I had so much to say while I was reading-I mean, from the first chapter I was out of breath from all the butterflies attempting to escape through my throat. There is just something so sweet about a boy that has always had it rough, who is fighting for something he thinks is so out of his reach, and finding the girl of his dreams while trying to achieve greatness. And, better yet, thinking he doesn’t deserve the girl who lights up his whole life. His lips are still at my ear, and he lowers his volume so that Matt won’t hear. “I promise not to get you dirty. Unless you ask real nice.”I don’t even…I can’t…Oh my God. Oh! And a little tidbit for those who hate this kind of thing (It personally has never bothered me): No slut shaming. Well….I didn’t think there was. Maybe I’m wrong? Anyway-My point in all this-I’ve written a lot of reviews for a lot of books in the last three weeks (the majority of them 5’s), and I am officially worn out on writing them lol. So, if this review falls short, in the end, it is not for a lack of perfection in this novel. No, the reason for shorting my poor, tortured Silas is because this bitch be tired. I am just…ugh. So tired. His eyes really are far too pretty for a guy like him. Dudes who look dangerous should just be dangerous. Period. The end. They should not be dangerous and beautiful all at the same time. It leaves the universe out of balance, and it makes me do stupid things like stare. I think the most charming thing about this story…is it’s writing. I mean, I don’t judge that harshly on books, really, but I certainly can appreciate a well-written and humorous story. The reason this is so wonderful, to me, is that the book didn’t merely rely on sex and witty banter and a smoldering hot male who only has eyes for our girl (He is a former manwhore-a plot I know most people might be tired of, but that I NEVER grow tired of, tee-hee). There was a lot of that-the sexy looks, the ‘I’m falling for you but I’ll take what I can get’, the broken and torturedness-but it wasn’t the only thing. And that, in NA, is amazing. I will never be able to turn this girl down. Whatever she wants from me, it’s hers. No matter what she asks for, I’ll find a way to give it to her. She may not be mine, but somewhere along the way, I ended up hers. The heart and soul of this story, though, is how much Silas wanted to make something of himself, to break the barrier of being just a brat who grew up in non-homes and trailers. He met Dylan in the oddest of circumstances…one might say they were immediately ‘handcuffed’ together (LMAO I AM SO NOT CLEVER BUT BAHAHA). And from that moment on, he was intrigued by her. Tied to her. Into her. And, most importantly, protective of her. His tongue peeks out to worry at his swollen, busted lip, and I feel a wave of heat curl up my spine. Totally inappropriate. Totally psychotic because he is way out of my league. Or I’m way out of his league, I don’t know. Either way, someone is out of someone’s league. GAWD his protectiveness just got me. I ADORED HIM. He could get violent, an offense that almost loses his place on the team, but he never got where I think people reading this would get a bad vibe from him. He thinks with his fists first, especially when it comes to his girl, but never in a, hmm, psycho way. And, despite what I implied…no insta-love. Just no. Stop it. Stop thinking that. STOP IT! But boy oh boy…I was pleased with their first….encounter. I want to make her come so hard that for the rest of her life, she remembers me anytime someone touches her. I’m going to leave my mark on her perfect body, beneath the skin where she’ll never get me out. I want to ruin her for anyone else. And I’m pretty damn good at ruining things. Dylan was also a character I really enjoyed. She knew what she wanted. She was goal oriented and into helping others who cannot help or speak for themselves. She never blew Silas off because he didn’t grow up like her, and she never felt above him…but this was also a part of the story in ways they need to overcome-Just to be clear. I can’t say she was as good as Silas, but *Scoffs* who is, am I right? However, she was a great heroine and she didn’t make me cringe, roll my eyes, or anger me in a way that endangered my enjoyment of the story. I loved her in a lot of ways, and she was always there for my beautiful broken football player. Except I’m starting to think that the idea of “belonging” anywhere is false. We go through our whole lives thinking that we belong in one place and not in another. We think certain ideas and actions have to be relegated to the tiny little boxes we place them in. What if we just react instead? What if we take whatever the world gives us and instead of focusing on what it isn’t, we enjoy what it is? So, you know, my fingers are ITCHING to type more about Silas and his jealousy and his fierce protectiveness and possessive tendencies and his loyalty and his loving nature and his longing to be good enough for her and…oopsy poopsy. My bad…. But I think this said enough. And hell, if I need to add more tomorrow, I will. I mean, I get to add my quotes next and EEEEPSSSS that is my favorite part. Who wants to be too tired to enjoy re-reading my favorite Silas moments?? Not I. But, I digress-I just recently went on a deleting massacre of my TBR, and Cora’s other popular series, Losing it, was deleted because I knew I’d never read it and it had been on there since, like, 2012. But, you know…I think I might be re-evaluating that decision. Hmmm….is that a pig in the sky?? Because that has NEVER happened before. What? I can admit when I’m wrong. Silas Moore counts himself a lost cause. He doesn't think he'll ever make anything of himself so he doesn't really try too hard. Other than at Football. To him, it's not just a sport it's a way out of the cycle of poverty and criminal behavior. Yet he's constantly screwing up his one shot by doing stupid shit, just because he can. Then Dylan enters the picture. She's always there to fight for any injustice she see's in the world, and though she knows she can't change the way of life, she damn sure tries. When Silas comes into her life she seems him as more than a lost cause that everyone seems to have given up on, and she won't give up trying to help him until he can see his potential too. This was a sweet, fast paced NA read and I really enjoyed getting to know these characters. I liked how you really had to dig down deep into Dylan and Silas to get every part of them. The more I learned about them, the more I liked them. Silas was the complicated character that had me intrigued from the very beginning because I wanted to know everything about him, and it kept me entrapped in his story. There were times that Dylan annoyed me just for different reasons, but I didn't mind her for the most part. I liked that she stuck with Silas even when everything and everyone was telling her that he wasn't worth her time. It was really great to see the loyalty that made up any relationship she had with other people. Overall, I want to kick myself for waiting so long to get back to this series. It's the perfect book for when you're in the mood for a light and sweet romance between two very different college students, both trying to find their way in life.

Wow, I really enjoyed this one!!! The first chapter or two had me worried: it was packed with a fair amount of background material and scene setting. But once Dylan and Silas meet in the jail holding cells, the sparks begin to fly and the action starts ROLLING! Dylan is a "good girl, parent-pleaser" but also a closet activist who wants to make the world a better place. Silas is the quintessential bad boy who can "flirt anyone's pants off"! Here is an example of one of Texas bad-boy Silas's moves on Dylan: His lips are still at my ear.... "I promise not to get you dirty. Unless you ask real nice."I don't even.... I can't... Oh my God!...See what I mean? Cora Carmack is known for her hilarious romances, but in this case, her usual uproarious humour makes way for some interesting self-examination by both of these very attractive, engaging characters. Dylan brings out the best in Silas, and Silas teaches Dylan to be unflinchingly honest and true to herself. This was a fantastic read: I'm still rereading some of the very cute and memorable passages. Highly recommended!

Really good audio. The male narrator had a perfect Texas drawl that really worked for Silas!

4.5 stars!Once again, Cora Carmack has reminded me why I love her books so much. All Broke Down is the second book in the Rusk University series and to say that Silas really wasn’t a favorite character in book 1 would be an understatement. By the time I turned the last page of this book, I was on the Silas bandwagon with pom poms and a ‘Silas Is #1’ foam finger. In All Broke Down, we meet Dylan. Dylan hasn’t exactly had the perfect life, though looking at things for her now, you’d never guess. She’s a supporter of lost causes now, and her current one has landed her in jail. Surprisingly… or not surprisingly, this is where she meets Silas. Silas himself is a bit of a lost cause. The only thing he knows is football and trouble, and he’s banking on one to keep him away from the other. When a he finds himself in a bit of trouble because of his anger issues, and football is taken away from him, he is determined to get back the one and only thing he cares about. As you might have guessed from my comments above, you can probably tell I wasn’t expecting to care all that much for Silas, especially after some of the things he did in book 1, but I found that I really cared about him by the end of this book. Carmack does an amazing job telling his story, and making readers connect with him. The boy is so damn cocky and full of himself, usually two things that drive me nuts. But honestly, it totally worked for him because he’s actually charming and holy sex on legs you guys. *fans self* While I really liked Silas as a character, I pretty much loved Dylan. Her early life wasn’t easy … and in some aspects neither is her current life. The expectations her family has of her are somewhat ridiculous and because of her history, she’s become a bit of a fixer of things… and it’s apparent to her that Silas needs her help. What I loved most about Dylan was this… she never let Silas walk all over her. To be honest, I was waiting for it to happen. His personality is so big and in your face and she’s a bit shyer and definitely more timid… at least she appeared to be! I loved that she stood up for her beliefs and she stood up for Silas to his roommates and she never let him railroad her into anything. Like Cora’s other stories, the pacing and flow of the story are really well-done and her writing is some of my favorite in the new adult genre. I can always count on her for a story that will keep me turning pages and characters that I will fall in love with. If you haven’t started the Rusk University series, definitely grab book 1 so you’re ready for book 2 when it arrives! You won’t be disappointed and I’m definitely looking forward to whatever Cora has coming next! Thank you to Edelweiss & William Morrow for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

A stirring romance with lots of emotional turmoil and sizzling chemistry. My favorite Cora Carmack book to date! What happens when you pair a volatile bad boy with a proper, go-getting political activist?Instant, angst-ridden, burn-up-the-pages chemistry. I loved this second installment in the Rusk University series. I loved how different it was than the first book (which I loved as well) and yet it still infused all the exciting, coming-of-age elements of the Rusk world. With Silas as its central character, however, the story took on a darker, more explosive and tumultuous tone and I was surprised at how Silas, an antagonist in All Lined Up, managed to evoke so much feeling and heart with his story. Cora Carmack reminds us at what an expert she is in creating that irresistible crackle between two characters. The chemistry that burns, then flickers and then burns even hotter, and these two have enough desire to detonate. This is a story about the past gripping your present, about facades dulling the life you live… it’s about anger and hurt and forgiveness and acceptance, and of course love. Because with Silas and Dylan… nothing is ever as it seems. “Football. Fighting. Fucking. That’s what I know how to do.” Silas is not your typical Rusk University student. He’s not wealthy. He doesn’t drive a fancy car. He hasn’t had it easy. His whole life is football. It’s the one thing he’s really good at. The one thing that gives him a fighting chance to overcome what’s inevitable in his mind. Because his past has crippled him with insecurities, with fear, as if he’s one bad decision away from trashing his entire future. But he’s trying. Trying to keep focus. Trying to be the leader Coach Cole wants him to be. But when his old friend and team disappointment, Levi, calls after being released from jail, he can’t help but fall back into old patterns. And the moment hurtful words are exchanged… the kind that attack the very soul of your deepest fears, it’s his fists that unleash his raging emotions.Like always. It was inevitable. “The bad seems to follow me. Or hell… Maybe it’s me that follows the bad. Maybe I don’t know who I am apart from that.” When Silas ends up behind bars, the last thing he expects is a beautiful girl to be in the cell across from him. Dylan is a passionate, caring person. One who wants to make a difference. A fixer inexorably drawn to a cause. With a wealthy, influential family, perfection and decorum are expected, and she fears anything short of that impossible notion will take away the love and security she hasn’t always had. When her gaze meets Silas, she’s immediately unsettled and flustered at the hulking, gorgeous man with the intense stare. “So he doesn’t tick any of my usual boxes, but there’s something in the way he looks at me. In his eyes, there’s this strange kind of appreciation that is part attraction, part something else that makes me feel rare and precious and… seen.” Unlikely circumstances bring these two very different people together, unexpected desire tethers them even tighter, but it’s an unspoken understanding that allows them to really see the other. We realize they’ve both struggled to belong, struggled to overcome a past that won’t let go, struggled to find a way to let themselves show the world who they truly are. While Silas is brimming with volatility, rage, anger and aggression, Dylan is an empty shell afraid to enliven her personality with who she really is… not who she is expected to be. They strike a deal to help each other out, because suddenly, Silas really does need fixing. His spot on the football team is in danger and Silas is willing to do anything to hold on to his one shot at a future. “You are in so much trouble, Dylan Brenner. And trouble’s name is Silas Moore.” Silas and Dylan’s “non-relationship” relationship takes off from there. They are exactly what the other needs, and they sort of save each other. But just as emotions intensify and progress is made and hearts fill with promise… the truth of their disparity opens up a chasm that tears them apart. Could they really be so different… come from two different worlds and somehow make it work? Could they be happy? Could they change their inevitable fates? “I’m bad… a bad decision, bad seed, bad blood… whatever you want to call it, that’s what I am. And it’s only a matter of time until it has me turning out just like Levi, cut off from the people I know and the only thing I love.” I loved the emotional turmoil of the book, loved how I felt the characters so much, loved the super sexy times, and especially loved the juxtaposition of these two seemingly different people who were passionate and fiercely loyal. It’s my favorite Cora Carmack book to date and I can’t wait to see what she does with Torres’ book next. “Me and her together… I believe we’re big enough to face whatever comes.” For more reviews, visit my website at Vilma's Book Blog and connect with me on Facebook.

Alright, this is not a five stars book. It's not even a five stars NA (*cough* The Deal *cough*). I'd say it's a four stars, four stars and a half settling on four at most. It was good but, unlike my favorite NAs, it didn't make me forget about everything. Because, honestly, that's 80% of the reason why I'm into NA CR. Forgetting about real life. Real life sucks, but at least there are awkward girls falling in love with hot, caring guys in some parallel universe. Why am I giving this four and a half rounding up to five stars then? I thought Cora Carmack had lost what I loved in her Losing It series with this new one, but it would appear she hasn't. I caught a glimpse of what made the characters from the other series so special, and I saw it increase with every single page. Truly, I'm incredibly excited for Torres and Antonella's book, and the way Stella's situation will be handled. The previous book was good but didn't illogically excite me. Didn't leave me wanting for a lot more. This one did, and that's a win in my book.
