Witnessing her identical twin’s murder sends Ella Wolf’s life into a tail spin. She doesn’t know who she can trust and she is on the run for her own life. Ella desperately retraces her sister’s last steps to discover the secret that cost her sister her life. The path leads back to their abandoned “Wolf Ranch” and an unlikely hero, Gage. Gage was unwilling pulled in to the deviant plot against Ella and her sister. When he finds her on the side of the road, his white knight shines through.Ella was known as the party girl, but anyone who knew her knew the driven person underneath the façade. The person Gage is quickly getting to know.Gage is trying to build a life for himself and purchasing Wolf Ranch was the next step. Little did he know that the heiress of Wolf Ranch was going to land his lap or the truth she brings in her wake. Now, not only Ella’s life but now Gage’s livelihood are at stake.I have to admit I found the beginning of this story extremely unsettling and felt Ella’s choices where half baked, at best, but as the story progresses it worked. I really loved Gage, he steals the show so to speak. Were Ella is impulsive, Gage carefully takes each chip as it falls. At Wolf Ranch was a great cowboy packed adventure. This is my first Jennifer Ryan read but it won't be my last.If you enjoy a good ranch based romance with a little city girl on the side, check out At Wolf Ranch.I received this ARC copy of At Wolf Ranch from Avon in exchange for a honest review. SummaryAfter working in the Rodeo, Gabe wants to own his own ranch and have a wife and children of his own. A great opportunity becomes available to him, and he takes advantage of it. On his way to transporting horses, he finds a lone woman stranded on the side of the road in a snow storm. Ella Wolf, has just seen her twin sister, murdered by her uncle. So Ella flees the city, and goes back to where she once called home “Wolf Ranch”. She knows that she needs to hide out until she can get proof against her uncle, but she is next on his list to be killed. But she finds herself abandoned on the road, in the snow storm, and ends up being rescued by a ruggedly handsome rancher, who has his own plans for Wolf Ranch. Ella and Gabe join forces, to get evidence against her uncle. But she is racing against time, because she knows it won’t take him long to figure where she ran off to. As their enemy gets closer, so does Gabe and Ella, and they connect in ways that they don’t expect, but they need to learn to trust each other in order to survive…The HeroGabe Bowden, is one of three boys, and grew up in a loving home. He has spent many years working with the rodeo circuit, and as his fame rose, so did women’s interest in him. Gabe once fell in love and was engaged, but was left at the altar, and now he only trust women so far in the bedroom. But he is looking for that special woman; that can break through the ice around his heart. When he stumbles and finds Ella Wolf, her beauty and courage stuns him, and he can see a future together, but he wonders if he and his ranch will be enough for her. Gabe was such a great hero, strong, hardworking, a sexy appeal, and is very ruggedly charming. He has very simple tastes, but is the type of man a woman can see herself with, a strong husband and loving father. His character instantly drew me to the story, and he isn’t afraid of saying how he feels or thinks. The HeroineElla Wolf, is a strong heroine. She is more than she appears to be in the public eye. She has a strong bond to her sister, so when she sees her murdered right in front of her, by a man they trusted, she has no choice but to run because her uncle is after her too. Ella is heartbroken over the loss of her other half, her twin. They have never been separated. Ella is passionate and a fighter. She is smart and is very likable. I loved seeing her determination to bring down her uncle and find the answers and proof she needs. Ella really shocked me in how much I liked her. She is independent and strong willed, but she has a gentle nature to her that I found endearing. I found it easy to relate with her, and my heart just broke for her, but I found myself becoming more attached with her as the story went on. She definitely had backbone you can appreciate.Plot and Story LineThis is one hell of a ride of a story. Oh my…I think I am going to adore this series. This is only the first book, so crossing fingers, that I will be able to read it in order. This was an emotional roller coaster and boy did it really require a box of tissues. I love those stories that surprise you like that, but in a good way. I had such a good time with this book, and I just couldn’t get enough of it. It was stunning, riveting and had the simple romantic feeling to it that pulls the reader in. The story picks up pretty quickly from the beginning, and had me on edge for quite a while. Then we enter the hiding out, but doing investigative work phase. This is where Ella and Gabe really start to slowly connect. It starts out slowly and then gradually picks up pace. They were so sweet together. There isn’t a ton of heat or sexual scenes in this one. There is a sensual tone to it, but its more gentle and slow moving, but steady. You can see that the focus of the story is the plot and the building up of the love story, and the bedroom scenes are icing on the cake. I enjoyed the balance that this author employs into the story. The characters were so captivating and added a unique quality to the story that increased my enjoyment of it. I also adored the suspense tone of the story. I do love a good mystery, and bringing down a bad guy. And boy, this Uncle of Ella…he is super bad and should be shot. Boy did I love the ending and seeing the story get wrapped up in a nice package.CoverThis cover is sexy to me…even though the guy posing as Gabe…is fully clothed. But with his stance, and those broad shoulders, strong jawline…and dang those jeans…I swear cowboys get me every time. They are sexy and romantic and hell of time. And I love the way that there is snow in the background, it sets a wintry theme to the story, and so pretty with the lovely background.Overall ViewA stimulating and thrilling story of fighting for those you love, a romance that is slow and easy, a love to fight for no matter the danger. Captivating on every page…this is a author to watch out for. One Hell of a Keeper!!

Mystery....suspense....romance....AND COWBOYS. Yup, that's a pretty awesome combination. Ella Wolf and her sister, Lela are only weeks out from their landmark 25th birthday when Lela is brutally murdered and Ella finds out that she's next, unless she can get to her family's ranch in Montana and uncover the secret that will save her life. When she's abandoned to die on the side of a snowy, deserted road, it looks as though the secret will remain hidden forever. Until Gabe Bowden spies her through the weather and saves her life. With Gabe set to take over Wolf Ranch, Ella's arrival, and the mystery that brought her to Big Sky Country have the potential to change everything...especially since he's drawn to her in a way that he's never before experienced. Can he help her find the truth before it's too late? Or will he lose her before he's really found her?I didn't know what I was getting myself into when I opened this book. I actually didn't read the blurb properly -- I saw it was Montana and cowboys, and I was hooked -- until after I read the shocking first chapter, and then got a clearer idea of what I was in for. And what I was in for was an= exciting, interesting and well-constructed mystery, and a good start to a new series for a new-to-me author. I really enjoyed At Wolf Ranch, and I LOVED Gabe. Aside from being a strong and sexy Alpha cowboy, he was sweet and kind; a gentleman and completely swoon-worthy. I thought he and Ella were perfect together. She was smart and strong, and together they made a strong team. And while some elements of the mystery were a touch on the predictable/convenient side, I still found myself thoroughly invested in this lip-bitin' story. There's more to come from the Montana Men series, and I can't be happier about that. I'm excited to see what Jennifer Ryan does with this series, to learn more about the Bowden boys and to see Blake -- whose book comes next and who was my favorite secondary character -- find his girl. ~ Beth, 4 stars ~~~Talk about intrigue and edge-of-your-seat excitement! This book hooks from the first page, and keeps on going. I wasn’t sure where the story was going at first, but could tell it would be a great ride. And At Wolf Ranch did not disappoint! It was part murder mystery, part hot cowboy book, and part chic, independent heiress story. There is something for everyone in At Wolf Ranch, in addition to being an exciting thrill ride the entire book. I loved the mixture of genres, it worked seamlessly and added so much dimension to a couple of tired old standbys!Gabe and Ella are perfect, the epitome of opposites attract. Their chemistry sizzles off the page, and just enhances the sweet, swoony moments. Gabe is a smoking hot cowboy with excellent manners, a protective alpha side, and a sad story that makes you fall for him even more. Ella is a young New York heiress who is strong, determined and a bit damaged. She has an amazing ability to adapt and survive in perilous situations, and completely earned my respect. My one issue with At Wolf Ranch is that there was a tendency to accept certain things as fact without explanation. A couple of plot points were glossed over and not fully developed. In this same vein, Gabe makes a big decision towards the end of the book that just is without any discussion, and then later explained off. This irked me because it didn’t sit with his personality up until that point, he needed a reason to go so off base. Otherwise, I fully enjoyed At Wolf Ranch. It was steamy, sexy, swoony, mysterious, intriguing and so much more of those wonderful things. ~ Alicia, 3.5 stars

I think this is one of the best Jennifer Ryan books I've read so far. There was just the right mix of suspense and romance. It was also nice that the characters didn't just fall into bed together. The author gave them time to get to know one another as she built her story around them. It was more about plot than sex, although there were some nicely written love scenes. When the book opens, Ella is responding to an eerie call from her twin sister, Lela. It appears Lela is arguing with their uncle and he is threatening her. She races to their apartment in time to see her uncle murder her twin. A police detective is there as well, obviously in business with her uncle. She overhears them planning to kill her as well and make it look like a murder-suicide. She manages to flee before her presence is discovered and uses a fake identity to fly to her family's ranch in Montana. It was the last place Lela visited before confronting their uncle so Ella knows whatever she had against him had to come from there. Gabe is a rancher who believes he's purchased Wolf Ranch, the final sale to go through the following week. When he meets Ella Wolf he discovers her uncle sold him the ranch illegally and took all his money. Ella explains about her sister's murder and vows to get to the bottom of things. She and Gabe work together to bring her uncle down and get his money back. I absolutely fell in love with this couple. While Ella had often been made out to be a spoiled, little, rich girl, she was anything but, a fact Gabe quickly discovers himself. She is totally likeable, intelligent, hard-working, and loves the ranch almost as much as he does. Gabe is so caring and protective towards her. He's always doing things for her and becomes an active part of her quest to solve her sister's murder. He is someone she can lean on as she grieves the loss of her sibling, his quiet strength giving her just what she needs during this difficult time. As their relationship slowly develops, Gabe and Ella both wonder what the future holds for the two of them but Ella seems more determined to work things out while Gabe is figuring there will come a time when he has to let her go. An extra bonus point was getting to know Gabe' s brothers, which will easily lead into the next book in the series, something I can't wait to read now. If you haven't read this book though, you don't want to miss it! It's one I would highly recommend.

Posted on What I'm ReadingNothing like starting a story where within the first chapter contains a murder, because the bad guy was caught for other crimes like murder, fraud, and embezzlement. Yep, that will definitely be something catch your attention, at least mine. To top this all off, Ella is the one to watch this all take place. Now she has to figure out what the heck her uncle did that would force him to kill his niece, and survive from suffering the same fate as her sister. Good times, good times. I must say that At Wolf Ranch is a pretty exciting read. Nothing seems to go right for Ella ever since her sister died, but she's not going to give up. Thank goodness she has the help of a sexy cowboy with a heart of gold who wants to keep her safe. I think I'm on a book high, because this was pretty amazing from page one to the last. First off, we have Ella who has in the past portrayed herself as the party girl with no real ambition. While her twin sister Lela was portrayed as the serious one who did everything by the book. As we get to know Ella, we learn that there is more than meets the eye (yes, I did use a Transformer phrase). When Gabe meets Ella he can't figure out conundrum that she presents, herself. However, as he gets to know her, he starts to realize that she isn't a party girl like the tabloids say. I love how Gabe's protective instincts go up and he wants to protect Ella from her psychopath of an uncle. He's pretty messed guy. Words cannot describe the evilness that lies in that man. Anyway, Gabe has his work cutout for him. I adore Gabe, because he tries hard to focus on the task while he has the hots for Ella. At the same time he's a little gun shy, because the last girl he was serious about kind of abandon him due to the fact he was living in a small town. So, he figures Ella would be the same way, because she's a socialite from New York what could Montana hold for a girl like her. Silly man. Anyway, I found At Wolf Ranch a gripping tale of a girl trying solve a puzzle that her family was trying to solve. Basically, if you are looking for a story with murder, fraud, and embezzlement with a dash of sexy cowboy, you have found your story. At Wolf Ranch is a pretty awesome story.
