This is an easy reader with illustrations of back when horse-drawn wagons were common and trains were new in towns. The vegetable peddler and his horse Barney made daily trips to towns and Barney was loved by the children in each place they went. The day a train was ready for passengers, poor Barney was startled by the 'screech' and suddenly became a runaway horse. Everyone tried to stop him. A very nice story and illustrations.

Easy book to read for beginning readers. Illustrations are simple but eye appealing. The book shows compassion Barney, the main character, has for his horse who is afraid of city noises. It is important illustrate compassion for a pet, and the lengths we go to take care of them.

Story about a man and his horse. The man uses a horse to pull a wagon through town to sell "Apples, Onions, and Potatoes!" The man loves going through town selling his items and seeing all the children. It is a cute little book.
