Courting Trouble Audiobook Summary
How many people get to solve their own murder?
Anne Murphy is smart, gorgeous, and young, the red-headed rookie at the Philadelphia law firm of Rosato & Associates. She leaves town for the Fourth of July weekend to prepare for a high-profile trial, but when she buys her morning newspaper, her own photo is plastered all over the front page. And the headline — LAWYER MURDERED — supposedly refers to her. Anne sets out to find her killer, playing dead in order to stay alive.
She tries to go it alone but quickly realizes that she’ll have to trust people she barely knows — colleagues who hate her guts, a homicide squad who wants her out of the crime-fighting business, and a new love who inconveniently happens to be opposing counsel. The investigation takes all of Anne’s boldness and ingenuity — plus a pair of red satin hot pants. But her knack for courting trouble makes it almost impossible for Anne to play well with others, defend the lawsuit, and fight her urge to sleep with the enemy. Then an unexpected event places her in lethal jeopardy and leaves her with everything to lose — including her life.

This is the seventh book in the Rosato & Associates series, and no, I haven't read them in order. This series is an odd combination of Legal Thriller and Chick lit. It moves at a fast pace and there is a lot of action going on, but it gets a little silly here and there. However, it was entertaining enough I gave it the benefit of the doubt. 3.5 rounded to 4

** spoiler alert ** Mental note: I enjoyed it, although the linking and pulling through of the plot was a bit ridiculous and over done. I didn't expect the final twist of Beth being the killer in the end, but by then my cup of this is somewhat absurd had run over. How fortunate, however, to pick up a novel so timely by complete chance. Happy 4th of July to all the devout readers. May God continue to bless the USA.🗽🇺🇸

I just recently finished reading Lisa Scottoline’s novel Courting Trouble, a 300-page thriller following a young Philadelphia lawyer, Anne Murphy, after she is falsely reported murdered. Anne leaves town for Independence Day weekend, only to find her own face printed on the front page of the newspaper at her beach house, under a headline claiming that Anne was murdered in her Philadelphia apartment the night before. Letting the public believe she is dead, Anne sets out to discover who tried to kill her. And to stop them before they actually do succeed. Layered with forbidden romance, blossoming friendships, and a past that Anne has tried to keep hidden since she moved to Philadelphia, Courting Trouble is engaging in ways that keep readers turning pages well into the night. Scottoline keeps readers guessing with unexpected plot twists and strategically placed cliffhangers that made the book nearly impossible to put down. The characters are developed with distinct personalities that help transport the reader into Anne’s life at the Philadelphia law firm of Rosato & Associates. Scottoline dives into Anne’s family life, romantic life, and work life at the law firm, while slowly revealing the past that she keeps trying to run away from. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a novel to read for pleasure. It may not be classical literature, but it is an excellent choice for readers in search of a fun, relatable page-turner. Filled with humor, suspense, and romance, Courting Trouble is an upbeat, pleasurable read -- and perfect for keeping your mind busy during this period of social isolation!

Anne is the newest member of Rosato and Associates and feels unwanted and disliked. Anne felt her past had come knocking on her door and was determined to catch the presumed killer on her own by staying "dead". Both situations change when she is presumed murdered and the firm posts a $50,000 reward for the killer and then, accidentally, discover Anne is alive. A suspenseful hunt for her stalked left me breathless and amazed at the courage (and, possibly, stupidity) of these courageous young ladies as they put themselves in really dangerous situations. The story takes place Independent Day Weekend in Philadelphia and it was fun reading all the details of Philadelphia and some of its customs. And, as often happens with Scottoline mysteries, the ending comes from left field!

My first peek at Rosato and Associates. New lawyer Anne Murphy has moved to Philadelphia from California to escape her past. She had been stalked and almost killed by a guy, Kevin, who was finally caught and put in jail. Anne is working a harassment case, defending her client from what she feels is a false claim. It's the Fourth of July weekend and her one friend says she will babysit her cat, Mel, for the weekend while Anne prepares her case in private on the Jersey Shore. However, her friend is mudered in Anne's home in a case of mistaken identity. When Anne discovers that Kevin had escaped from prison she assumes he came to finish her off. Through many twists and turns, Anne eventually confronts Kevin and it leads to a wild and unexpected climax. Hold on to your hats.

After a few lackluster books in the Rosato & Associates series, I was happy to follow Anne Murphy, a new associate in the firm. Ironically, I think this is the lowest rated book in the series while one of my favorites. It was refreshing to have a new character perspective in the series and see Mary, Judy and Bennie from Anne's eyes. Anne decides to go out of town on a last minute trip while a pseudo friend she met at the gym house-sits. The house-sitter is murdered in Anne's house and everyone thinks Anne was the victim. Anne stays incognito and tries to figure out who was the behind the killing, while managing a big case. I liked this one!Grade: 4/5

This is book you read when you don't want to think too much. Anne Murphy is an associate with Rosato and associates. While, she has been there for a year, she hasn't really made friends with the other members of the firm, Mary, Judy and Bennie. Anne decides to go away for the 4th of July weekend to prepare for her upcoming trial. She reads the newspaper the next day and sees her face and the fact that she is dead. Thus, starts the search for her stalker who escaped from prison. Anne is convinced that he killed her cat sitter and has to find him. There is a lot of twist and turns in the book . A quick and enjoyable read.

Even Lucy Ricardo* made better plans than this protagonist. Especially the final one that (no spoiler here, it was obvious) almost got her killed, and would have without authorial fiat. I'd deduct even more than 1 star for that flaw, but there was enough silly fun elsewhere to almost make up for it.Silly fun I like, when it can fit into a thriller. Silly endangerment, no.----------------------* The specific comparison is encouraged by the text.

I enjoyed it, found it held my attention, and I was surprised by the mystery outcome (thought I had it figured out, but nope). I've read one other in this series and enjoyed that. I think I may have liked this one a bit more. The books are a little bit formulaic, but pretty well written in a plot-driven manner. The characters are enjoyable, but not particularly fleshed out or deep.
