Daddy’s Girl Audiobook Summary

Natalie Greco loves being a law professor, even though she secretly feels like Faculty Comic Relief. She loves her family, too, but as a bookworm, doesn’t quite fit into the cult of Greco football, headed by her father, the team captain. The one person whom she feels most connected to is her colleague Angus Holt, a guy with a brilliant mind, gorgeous facade, and a penchant for helping those less fortunate. When he talks Nat into teaching a class at a local prison, her world turns upside down.

A violent prison riot breaks out during the class, and in the chaos, Nat rushes to help a grievously injured guard. Before he dies, he asks her to deliver a cryptic message: “Tell my wife it’s under the floor.”

Plunged into a nightmare, Nat suddenly finds herself suspected of a brutal murder and encounters threats to her life. Now, not only are the cops after her, but ruthless killers are desperate to keep her from exposing their secret. In the meantime, she gets dangerously close to Angus, shaking her dedication to her safe boyfriend.

With her love life in jeopardy, her career in the balance, and her life on the line, Nat must rely on her resources, her intelligence, and her courage. Forced into hiding to stay alive, she sets out to save herself by deciphering the puzzle behind the dead guard’s last words…and learns the secret behind the greatest puzzle of all–herself.

Filled with the ingenious twists, pulse-pounding narrative drive, and dynamic, flesh-and-blood characters, Daddy’s Girl is another wild, entertaining ride from the addictively readable Lisa Scottoline.

A short fun thriller about a law professor who goes into a prison to give a presentation only to have a deadly riot break out. Lots of light twist and turns with a great surprise ending!

Lisa Scottoline easily passes the first book test with DADDY'S GIRL. This legal thriller is full of great characters and a twisting plot and guarantees that I will be reading many more books by this best-selling author.Nat Greco is a law professor at Penn State hoping to earn tenure. Her father is a rich construction magnate and her boyfriend Hank fits right in with her three boisterous brothers. Disaster strikes when Nat visits a local prison with another professor, Angus Holt, to teach a class to inmates. A riot breaks out and Nat is attacked, and given a message by a dying prison guard. "Tell my wife, its under the floor."The novel takes off from their as Nat struggles to come to terms with her attack, her relationship with her boyfriend Hank, her growing attraction to Angus, and the mystery of what really happened at the prison.Scottoline is a good writer that populates her novel with interesting characters, including the lead, Nat, and believable plot twists. This is a stand-alone novel, and I plan on trying out more of her books.

** spoiler alert ** A little bit different from her norm. Interesting concept and historical information about the underground railroad. It's obvious she does research and I appreciated her kudos to teachers...

One of those books that you just can’t put down! This was action packed and thought provoking from beginning to end with just enough plot twists to keep it from being predictable. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a quick crime novel!

This was published in 2007 and I’m not sure how I missed it as I thought I had read all of her books! The heroine of this story is named Nat and she is a law professor at the University of Pennsylvania. In her class is a student named Elizabeth Warren (!), then later in the book her teaching colleague, Angus, is quoted “ I’ve gotten threats like that before. It’s an occupational hazard. Most of them are from landlords. Those guys are power trippers of the first order. That’s why Donald Trump is the way he is. It’s not the money, it’s the ownership of the planet.” !! You can see why I had to keep looking at the publication date over and over!! This is a well plotted , fast moving thriller with one of the most heart pounding suspenseful chase sequences I have ever read!!

I seem to have a lot in common with Nat on the surface. We both have three brothers and both love books, Nancy Drew and Maine Coon cats. But I'd like to think I have more of a backbone than she does at the beginning of the book. And while my brothers can certainly be obnoxious and immature at times, my family is nowhere near as horrible and disrespectful to me as hers is. I was practically yelling at her to stand up for herself! But I really loved the evolution of her character throughout the book. I hate to use the cliched phrase "page-turner" but this really was. There were a lot of great twists, especially the end. At the point the story seemed to be wrapping up, there were quite a few pages left so I knew there must be more twists ahead. There were, right up until the very end and I didn't predict any of them. I picked up quite a few books by this author at a used book sale and I'm glad I did. She's becoming one of my favorites.

I’ve been doing some heavy non-fiction reading lately -- most recently, the kind of historical/political stuff about US misdeeds that usually has me wanting to set something on fire. At times like these I find some light fiction helps leaven things out, and among my first go-tos in that column is Lisa Scottoline. I recently finished one of the novels in her Rosato & Associates series which I gave pretty high marks, more because I enjoyed the plot idea than because of the quality of the writing. Daddy’s Girl, on the other hand, registers at a higher level altogether. The plot is more compelling, the writing is tighter and better crafted, and the whole tone is more serious. Which is not to say the book is flawless, but the flaws are mostly those of the genre -- mainly, some unlikely behavior and some unlikely coincidences. Having said that, the story includes a couple of excellent plot twists, including one I absolutely did not see coming. My only real complaint is about the main character herself. For at least the first half of the book, Natalie (Nat) is such a doormat -- especially in the presence of her family. (view spoiler)[I spent so much of the book just wishing she’d tell her family to piss off that I was actually a bit disappointed that she more or less reunites with them in the end. (hide spoiler)] But she does seem to grow over the course of the book, and her relationships do improve for the better before it’s all over, so it’s all good, in the end.

Natalie Greco, only girl in the Greco construction family, is a law professor who loves her job and feels that she doesn't quite fit in to her football-loving, loud and raucous family. A colleague at the university, Angus Holt involves her in a clinic program he runs at a local minimum security prison. While they are there a riot breaks out and Natalie is attacked by a student in the program Angus and Natalie are teaching. As Natalie tries to find help, she ends up offering consolation and medical help to a dying guard, who gives her a message for his wife. As Natalie and Angus continue to delve into the situation at the jail, Natalie finds herself suspected of murder, and increasingly drawn to Angus. As she runs from the police, buying herself time to find out more about what is going on at the jail, she relies on her own resources and brains. She thinks on her feet and surprises even herself by what she is capable of. I loved every minute of this book and was encouraged as Natalie grew into herself and became aware of her own skills and expertise.

WOW! I simply could not put down this book! Natalie takes detective work to a whole new level. The best part about this Scottoline novel is the unexpected twists and turns. Being an avid reader of Scottoline , I can usually figure out where the story is going, but not with Daddy's Girl! This book really focuses on the murder and law involved, with less emphasis on ther personal life of the main character. Scottoline exposes Natalie's life, traits and flaws gradually throughout the story. Her partner in crime throughout the book is a colleague, Agnus, who wraps the reader around his finger with his charm and personality. A definite-must read for anyone who loves crime thrillers. Daddy's Girl will make you an instant Scottoline fan!

She finds that she is plunged into a nightmare, gets accused of murder and has threats to her life. Not as riveting as some of Scottoline's other books I've read, until I got to the last quarter of the book and couldn't put it down to go to sleep. Now I'll be sleepy the rest of the day. (But it was worth it!)
