I love Emily the Strange books! They're STRANGE! I thought they were hilarious. I'm addicted to these books. I'm also totally digging the cover. I am always entertained and laughing out loud, when I read this series. And NO I'm NOT too old for this series either! Anyone in their right mind would read these books. All her little made up curse words (lists of 13) and conversations with people just crack me up. I felt sometimes the plot was a little predictable, but, it wasn't to the point were I was annoyed. I can't really think of anything that I disliked about this book, isn't that awesome?! Sometimes during this book I caught myself thinking, "I want to be Emily the Strange!", she's just so awesome and quirky. I also go around saying things like "Flutterplacking pigbark!!" or "Craphounds!!". So yeah this is a really quick, clean read that I would recommend to anybody! So there is my "Doublebricking Gobfarx" review! All I had to say were things I LOVED about it. Most of the time half of my reviews are me hatin' on books, I know, I know, I'm picky. "Flabbering Jellyjars!!!!!" I Hope you'll love this book as much as I friggin' did! :)Abigaile (15 years old)http://ReadingTween.blogspot.com/

English review, followed by the Romanian translation of the review (Recenzie în engleză, urmată de traducerea în română a recenziei)In this second novel of the fantastic series of Emily the Strange, we are dealing with an even stranger situation than in the first one, as you could probably tell from the title of the book. The chain of strange events begins when Emily is trying to make her invention - the Duplicator - work and she accidentally duplicates herself, and thus OtherMe is born. At first, the two girls are good friends, helping each other out, working together for their projects. Of course, Emily's mother doesn't want to accept the fact that her daughter has duplicated herself, so the existence of OtherMe is hidden - the two leave the room at turns. But, after a while, Emily is starting to realise that OtherMe has an evil personality and that there is a very strong possibility that she wants to get rid of her.The story is, at times, very predictable. For instance, I pretty much figured out the fact that Emily and OtherMe are all just a half of the old Emily and can't be the REAL Emily if they don't figure out a way of reversing the duplication.I know everyone is making the 13-points lists like Emily, but I can't help it: I have to make one of my own. Here is what I LIKED about the book:1. The Catlish to English translator2. Venus Fang Fang - a very interesting character, whom I came to like after I found out about her real identity3. Great Aunt Millie - the family's ghost4. The diary-style of the book5. The photos and Emily's sketches6. The fact that the book is unrealistic, which makes it interesting and entertaining7. The CatCam photos8. Emily's original way of swearing9. What Emily finds as great names for bands (ex: Spy Diaper)10. The pranks11. The booby traps12. Emily's four cats13. How the two Emily's are trying to prove that they are the REAL EmilyDespite the fact that I am 18 years old now, I enjoy reading children literature from time to time, just so I can remember the happy days of my childhood. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone though, as it is a very strange one (as I previously stressed). But if you like reading books with original ideas, you have a good sense of humour and you still feel your heart is of a child, then go for it!———————————————–În cel de-al doilea roman al fantasticei serii Emily the Strange, avem de-a face cu o situaţie şi mai ciudată decât în primul, aşa cum v-aţi dat seama, probabil, din titlul cărţii. Great Aunt Millie (Mătuşa Millie) - fantoma familiei4.

Seems the Other Emily sent my top-secret diary to a major book publisher. She is DIABOLICAL. Man, I wish I had thought of sending her diary to get published first!

'Stranger and Stranger' is honestly not just a great sequel, but a great book on its own. The first 40 pages may drag a little, but once it hits, it really hits. There's a reason this book is my favorite in the series.First of all, we're meeting Emily for the first time here. In the first book she's got amnesia, and the main plotline is obviously her quest to regain her memories, which in the end she does; so the obvious question for this book is 'Who is Emily when she's not suffering amnesia? How will her memories change her identity and personality?' At the end of Lost Days, she doesn't seem totally different than she was before, she's happy to have her memories back, but there isn't any real marker or acknowledgment of what's different now. In this book we get to see how Emily's true identity and memories play into the story and how they effect her, as a main character. We see this change introduced through her mom, Patti, who may be my favorite character. Patti and the cats are Emily's family, and Patti is a great contrast to her daughter: she's the light to Emily's dark, the ordinary to her extraordinary, the calm and kindness to Emily's brash recklessness. It's safe to say her influence is what provided Emily with the morals she tries to deny only to cave into at the last minute--without her Emily would totally be a sociopath evil dictator overlord, and that's that on that. Patti is the person Emily loves most and is very understanding of her daughter's odd hobbies and talents, as well as very respecting of her intelligence and nurturing of her genius. Patti never forces Emily to try to be somebody she's not, and in exchange Emily is very protective towards her, and Patti is the only person Emily will ever take orders from, to the extent that she's able to take orders, which of course is very little. We also learn early on in this book that Raven is a new addition to their family who came into play shortly before the events of book 1, and we get to see how she's adopted into their family. Emily and Patti have to adjust to having her around and at times they outright attempt to give up, but Emily can't turn her back on Raven for whatever reason, and Patti is more than willing to protect Raven and make excuses for her when she does things people plainly shouldn't or wouldn't do. Raven is of course the Igor to Emily's Doc Frankenstein, but there's also a degree of her being a 'cool aunt' figure to Emily that they sometimes play up, and it's really fun when they do.Obviously outside Emily's family and how they keep her grounded, we also learn more about her experiences and experiments, her work as a (mostly) mad scientist, and all she's accomplished over the years. We see what her normal routines are and what her everyday world typically looks like. Of course this eventually results in Emily cloning herself and having to cope with having another version of herself running around. The book does really fun, interesting stuff with the 'there's two of us now!' trope, including have each of the Emilys view the other as the 'experiment gone wrong' at various times, and also have each of them doubt whether they're the clone or not. Patti, loving angel that she is, eventually accepts there's two versions of her daughter now and tries to raise them as twins (after she has a light nervous breakdown) but the girls are determined to outwit and outmatch each other, and it leads to a fantastically written game of cat and mouse including some minor plot twists that are always fun to see the foreshadowing to upon a reread.I genuinely love this book, although between the first three books in this series all being so excellent, it's hard to pick a favorite or rank them in any way. They're all just that good. This one does scrap by to take the lead though, IMO. The fourth/final book is a bit rushed, but it's still a worthwhile journey to get there if you ask me. 5/5

I really, really enjoy the Emily the Strange series. They are not your average “always do the right thing, empathize with others, etc.” sort of story, for sure. What they are is quirky, funny, smart, dark, and full of self-confident girl power. Not right for everyone, I’m sure, but loads of fun in my opinion. The entire story is told in journal entries, and Emily’s unusual (extremely brainy and non-at-all socially inclined) personality shines through brilliantly throughout. This was sort of weird, but effective, in Stranger & Stranger because of some of the weirdness that occurred with the Duplicator. If you pay attention, you can definitely see differences in Emily’s personality throughout . . . very interesting indeed. I also love all the mad/brilliant science, art, rock, and feline love that permeates the story throughout. And don’t get me started on how cool all the actual art in the book is: sketches (many in red) of the most bizarre nature, diagrams, mock-photographs, etc. Plus, this particular volume has a fun band-names motif going throughout. I guess what I’m trying to say is that for those who enjoy a fun, darkly humorous, and definitely strange story with excellent art and a strong female lead (at only 13, no less!), Stranger & Stranger is definitely for you–so check it out!

I read this one after book 3, which meant that the chronology was slightly botched in my head; however, I enjoyed this book as much as the others. Emily is quirky enough to make anything sound like fun-even when it goes wrong!

Amanda Baltz, if you ever read this book, you would be hearing it in Stephanie Williams' voice. I kid you not. I felt like I was reading an alternate universe Stephanie.

I liked Emily better when she had amnesia, so this book was harder for me to get into. About halfway through, though, it really started to pick up. Quite ridiculous and funny.

This book is personally my favorite out of all the Emily books, I love seeing a more human, empathetic side to Emily and how that affected her experiments and her relationships. And it is the funniest book in my opinion. I also love super evil Emily. I would have given this 5 stars but this book series, unfortunately, use some language that I personally just don't like, they are very much products of their time. But I do love these books from when I was a child and the art style and the overall aesthetic is to die for, they are edgy but fun, and Emily is so likable as a character. I used these books in my dissertation to showcase what it was like to integrate art and narrative.

I just can't get over the fact how charming this little girl is. A true dark person with soul and bone. Just loved all the little quirky comments and ideas. The book itself was strange, like it was meant to be.I probably enjoyed the first book more than second, but while in the first, Emily was struggling with her memory loss. Then in the second one, she was full blast herself, well until she made a clone. But even if you are as ingenious as E, accidents might still occur. And how else do you make big scientific accomplishments.Love this little evil genius!
