Everlasting Audiobook Summary

Once Abrielle was a proud, exceptional lady coveted for her bearing, her breeding, her wit, and her beauty. But when her stepfather is denied his rightful title and the wealth that accompanies it, Abrielle finds herself suddenly disgraced. Only one would still have her, the oafish and grotesque Desmond de Marle. Yet no one else can rescue her once-proud family’s honor, so she is left with no choice but to accept the cruel and hateful de Marle’s offer of marriage . . . even as she yearns for another lover.

Dashing, handsome, tall, and kind, Raven Seabern is quite unlike any man Abrielle has ever encountered. From the very first moment their eyes meet, he intrigues and mesmerizes her–and dancing in his arms at a royal banquet leaves her weak with the desire to surrender. But their love can never be, for Abrielle is betrothed to a monster. And the well-being of everyone she cares for demands that she honor her promise.

Still, the fire lit that night will not be doused. Raven knows he has found the true one and must never let her go–though secrets, deceptions, dishonor, and unimaginable peril will surely be their fate if they follow the dictates of their hearts.

Everlasting Audiobook Narrator

Xanthe Elbrick is the narrator of Everlasting audiobook that was written by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss

(1939 – 2007) Kathleen E. Woodiwiss, creator of the modern historical romance, died July 6, 2007 in Minnesota. She had just turned 68. Her attorney, William Messerlie, said that she died after a long illness.

Born on June 3, 1939 in Alexandria, Louisiana, Mrs. Woodiwiss was the youngest of eight siblings. She long relished creating original narratives, and by age six was telling herself stories at night to help herself fall asleep. At age 16, she met U.S. Air Force Second Lieutenant Ross Woodiwiss at a dance, and they married the following year. She wrote her first book in longhand while living at a military outpost in Japan.

Woodiwiss is credited with the invention of the modern historical romance novel: in 1972, she released The Flame and the Flower, an instant New York Times bestseller, creating literary precedent. The Flame and the Flower revolutionized mainstream publishing, featuring an epic historical romance with a strong heroine and impassioned sex scenes. “Kathleeen E. Woodiwiss is the founding mother of the historical romance genre,” says Carrie Feron, vice president/editorial director of William Morrow and Avon Books, imprints of HarperCollins Publishers. Feron, who has been Woodiwiss’s editor for 13 years, continues, “Avon Books is proud to have been Kathleen’s sole publishing partner for her paperbacks and hardcover novels for more than three decades.” Avon Books, a leader in the historical romance genre to this day, remains Mrs. Woodiwiss’s original and only paperback publisher; William Morrow, Avon’s sister company, publishes Mrs. Woodiwiss’s hardcovers.

The Flame and the Flower was rejected by agents and hardcover publishers, who deemed it as “too long” at 600 pages. Rather than follow the advice of the rejection letters and rewrite the novel, Mrs. Woodiwiss instead submitted it to paperback publishers. The first publisher on her list, Avon, quickly purchased the novel and arranged an initial 500,000 print run. The novel sold over 2.3 million copies in its first four years of publication.

The success of this novel prompted a new style of writing romance, concentrating primarily on historical fiction tracking the monogamous relationship between a helpless heroines and the hero who rescued her, even if he had been the one to place her in danger. The romance novels which followed in her example featured longer plots, more controversial situations and characters, and more intimate and steamy sex scenes.

”Her words engendered an incredible passion among readers,” notes Feron. Bestselling author Julia Quinn agrees, saying, “Woodiwiss made women want to read. She gave them an alternative to Westerns and hard-boiled police procedurals. When I was growing up, I saw my mother and grandmother reading and enjoying romances, and when I was old enough to read them myself, I felt as if I had been admitted into a special sisterhood of reading women.”

New York Times bestselling author Susan Elizabeth Phillips, a leading voice in the women’s fiction arena, says, “We all owe our careers to her. She opened the world of romance to us as readers. She created a career for us to go into.”

The pioneering author has written 13 novels over the course of 35 years, all New York Times bestsellers. Kathleen E. Woodiwiss’s final literary work, the upcoming Everlasing, will be published by William Morrow in October 2007. “Everlasting is Kathleen’s final gift to her fans,” notes Feron.

Kathleen E. Woodiwiss, who was predeceased by her husband and son Dorren, is survived by sons Sean and Heath, and numerous grandchildren.

A Great Medieval Romance - 4 and 1/2 Stars! While I did not rate this as high as her other medieval romance, The Wolf and the Dove, I truly enjoyed this story of Raven Seabern, the handsome black-haired, blue-eyed son of a Scottish laird (the father reminded me of an older Sean Connery), who is a messenger for King David of Scotland and trusted by King Henry. He meets Abrielle, a red-haired Saxon beauty, in Henry's court just after her stepfather, a faithful Norman knight, is passed over by Henry for the reward he justly deserved. Suddenly Abrielle is no longer pursued by the eligible young suitors for she will have no dowry of land or title. And, worse, in order to save her family from ruin, she agrees to wed the evil and ugly Desmond de Marle who has lusted after her even before her betrothed was mysteriously killed. Raven watches from the sidelines as all this is happening for he is already in love with the fair Abrielle and will not leave her. This is a tale of the time when there were still difficulties between Normans and Saxons and also between England and the Scots. But against that background, there is the prospect of true love conquering all. And so it does. This was Woodiwiss' last romance, published in 2007, and while not as sweeping or detailed in scope, nor frankly as good as her others, it is still a fine medieval love story and I recommend it.Here's a list of her other novels:Birmingham Family Saga Series:The Flame and the Flower, 1972A Season Beyond a Kiss, 2000The Elusive Flame, 1998Single Novels:The Wolf and the Dove, 1974Shanna, 1977Ashes in the Wind, 1979A Rose in Winter, 1981Come Love a Stranger, 1984So Worthy My Love, 1989Forever in Your Embrace, 1992Petals on the River, 1997The Reluctant Suitor, 2002Her best ones were written in the 70s and 80s, with this perhaps an exception.

4 STARSEnjoyed it. Even though the heroine's lack of brains often drove me to drink. I do find that KW, definitely favors her Heroes. She is a master at creating them. These are some of the best romances, these epic medieval stories that even drag a bit of history into them. This one definitely had a good amount of the far-fetched sprinkled into the story, but it was still hard to put down. These timeless romances never get old for me.

I just love this book, haven't read it in years but when I saw it was available as a kindle edition at my library I was thrilled !!! I always enjoyed Mrs Woodwiss's style of storytelling. Her books are what got me hooked on historical romance novels. I won't blab to much about the plot line or else I may give it all away. Basically the story takes place in medieval england close to Scotland's boarders. You have a sweet young heroine who is willing to do what she needs to do to help her family. Despite her own feelings, a odious man who is ONE of many villains and a good man with the support of his father who helps her.

No me convenció. Tampoco la testarudez mostrada en todo momento hacia Raven.

"Everlasting" by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss(from the back cover)Handsome and kind--a black-haired Scotsman with vivid blue eyes--Raven Seabern is an emissary for his king, and unlike any man Abrielle has ever encountered. From the moment their eyes meet, he intrigues and mesmerizes her--and dancing in his arms at a royal banquet leaves her weak with the desire to surrender. But their love can never be, for Abrielle is betrothed to a "monster." And the well-being of everyone she cares for demands that she honor her promise.Still, the fire lit that night will not be doused. Raven knows he has found the true one and must never let her go--though secrets, deceptions, dishonor, and unimaginable peril will surely be their fate if they follow the dictates of their hearts.Wonderful Historical Romance, this book is set in 1135 during the rein of King Henry of England and King David of Scotland. Abrielle has seemingly lost everything, her stepfather was shunned by the king for his bravery in the crusades and her finacee died tragically from a fall that is a questionable accident. This made her search for a husband become an act of desperation to save her family from poverty. She must accept the proposal from the evil brother of her late finacee, but not willingly. In steps Raven Seabern, the dashing Scot with black hair and flashing blue eyes. He saves her multiple times and she has captured his heart, but her Saxon birth makes her distrustful of the Scot. Will Abrielle ever be able to trust Raven, and will she ever be able to pursue the romance between the two of them that burns so brightly??

This wasn't the best page-turner I've read, but for a historic romance it was a very nice story. I loved how the author weaved in the unique differences of English and Scottish clansmen; the parallel today would be race, but clan differences seem no less violent or insane. The main character was believable if not perhaps a bit too daft and innocent-sounding, even for the time period. I can understand the idea behind "I'll never trust him because..." but after repeated obvious efforts to woo her, a typical woman may have simply given up or receded instead of simply continuing to say "but he didn't...".Overall though, was a good read. I would read it again, but it isn't a book I'd read more than once.

Abrielle of Harrington is beautiful and courted until her step-father is denied the title and lands he should have earned while serving in the Crusades. Suddenly disgraced, she's forced to accept the suit of her dead fiance's cousin, an odious man. She's very attracted to King David of Scotland's emissary, Raven Seabern, but he fails to speak up. When the odious Desmond de Marle falls drunkenly down the stairs on her wedding night leaving her a wealthy virgin widow, the suitors come again. Raven repeatedly saves her, but she's not happy with his previous behavior, and thinks he's after her fortune also. After he saves her from yet another kidnapping, they reluctantly marry. Eventually Raven wins her over. She prolongs her distrust a little too long, but this is a great medieval by Woodiwiss, better than some of her recent titles - still hard to top Flame & Flower and other early ones. Relatively clean too.

It has been awhile since I even touched a romance novel, but I couldn't resist. Kathleen E. Woodiwiss quickly became one of my favorite romance authors years ago when I was in my romance phase. I'm still drawn to her books and after reading this one have considered going back and rereading some others. Woodiwiss redefined the historical romance genre, and every single book of hers I've read has become and instant favorite. This one is no different, and I ate it up very quickly. It's hard to put down any of her books. I will say that for awhile I thought a couple details were glossed over or forgotten but the author picked them back up later, to which I was relieved. I hate when details are mentioned and then never referred to again. In the end, the guys get the girls, some of them are pregnant, and everybody lives happily ever after. Such is the bumpy road of romance novels.

I enjoyed this book. It did take me a while to read it because I haven't been reading as much as I used to. The story was good but I felt like they focused more on her surroundings then the relationship between them. I also felt like the ending was a little rushed not sure why I think that. I have loved Kathleen E Woodiwiss books all of these years, and in the previous books it always felt like the two got to know each other better, this one it didn't seem that they were together enough for them to of gotten to know each other. I guess I could be wrong but this was my feelings towards the leads in the book. As I said I still enjoyed it and maybe since there was such a big gap in my reading maybe I just don't remember them being together more.

Excellent🏰 Opposing Kingdom’s at Risk - Can Love Be Found ❤️Kathleen E. Woodiwiss is such a talented author. While reading her stories you find yourself transported back in time to a world full of strife and accords, good and evil, villains and heroes, Saxon, Norman, English, and Scottish peoples battling to survive and finding love along the way. While reading this story I felt like I stepped back to 11th century and was experiencing the horrors and triumphs along side the H/h. If you enjoy HR with amazing characters and unequivocal plots I encourage you to give this book a try!Overall 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | 5 Flames 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

** spoiler alert ** Great read. However, I hated that Raven was portrayed as being honorable but on his wedding night to Abrielle resorted to rape. I would have thought the honorable thing to do would have been to prove to her that he was in love with her and didn't want her wealth and waited for her to come to him. I wanted him to court her and for her to fall in love with him and come to him willingly instead of him taking from her the very last and only thing she had that was truly hers to give. That's why this book got 4 stars instead of 5.

EverlastingThis was a story of a woman coming into her own. Because of the neglect of King Henry I to her stepfather after the crusades she wad forced to marry an evil man with a nephew not happy with the settlement. The groom fell to his death on the wedding night and because of the nephew's kidnapping was forced to wed the Scot that rescued her. It did have a happy ending. Great author, great book.
