Nancy is so lucky that she gets to go to an apple orchard for a school trip. Then again, where I grew up, I didn’t know of any apple orchards to go too. Nancy’s schoolmate Lionel sounds a lot like my nephew. He doesn’t follow directions and is doing silly stuff when told not too. At the Orchard, the children are told not to climb in the branches of the trees. He does and all kinds of things happen. This is great for the Halloween season. I adore this story. Robin paints a wonderful picture of an apple orchard. The school bus ride brings back many horrible rather unpleasant memories. Even with the buses, this has been one of my favorite stories of the season. There is something about an apple orchard that makes Autumn.I was able to get the niece to read this too. She enjoys reading these now and then. She gave this 3 stars. The nephew read this with us because his sister did. He thought the book should be about Lionel. He liked him, go figure. He gave this book 3 stars too.

Title: Fancy Nancy Apples GaloreAuthor: Jane O’ConnorIllustrator: Robin Preiss Glasser & Ted EnikDate of Publication: 2013Genre: FictionSummary:In this short story, Fancy Nancy and goes apple picking on a field trip with her class. Nancy and her friend, Lionel, talk about wanting to pick Gala apples on the bus ride to the orchard. Their teacher, Ms. Glass, instructs the students not to climb on the trees when they get there. Lionel, who is always breaking the rules, decides to climb up a Gala tree since the apples are out of reach. When the branches on the tree begin to break, Ms. Glass and Nancy rush over to Lionel, with a ladder to help him get down. As Ms. Glass was disappointed that Lionel did not listen to instructions, he was not allowed to participate in the rest of activities for the day. Evaluation:This book is perfect for early readers! By integrating larger vocabulary words and calling them “fancy”, the book acts as a subtle vocabulary lesson that doesn't seem forced. The "fancy" words are humorously defined by words more likely to appear in the vocabulary of an early reader. This also makes it an awesome book for English language learners as the vocabulary lessons is so discreet and seamless! The author's message of the importance of rules could also broaden classroom discussion to talk about why rules are important for safety. I could also see this book working to prep a class for a field trip, reinforcing why following direction and listening to your teacher will help everyone stay safe and have fun.Discussion Questions:1.What is a fancy word for having a lot of something? (Galore) What is a fancy word for scold? (Reprimand). [These questions can be repeated using the “fancy vocab list” provided at the end of the story]2. What rule did Lionel break?3. Why did Ms. Glass tell the students not to climb on the trees? Why do you think this rule was put in place?4. Do you think it is fair that Ms. Glass did not let Lionel participate in the rest of the day’s activities? Why/Why not?

Summary: There are approximately 123 books in the Fancy Nancy series. Surely I cannot afford to buy them all, but this another children's series I love reading! Fancy Nancy books are about a girl named Nancy who tells the story of what she did that day--interrupting herself to explain the fancy word choice she is using and a synonym for that word. In this specific book, Nancy's class takes a field trip to an orchard, where she hopes to find gala apples. She does not find them but sticks with her trouble-making friend Lionel who gets reprimanded for making a not so funny joke (pretending to be motion sick).Connections: I can't remember if I read these books as a child or not, but the name does sound familiar. How you would use it: I do hope to have at least a few of the Fancy Nancy books in my classroom library for students to chose from for independent reading time.Subject heading: Fancy Nancy (Fictitious character)--Juvenile fiction. Apples--Juvenile fiction. Orchards--Juvenile fiction. Apples--Fiction. Orchards--Fiction.

This is my first FANCY NANCY book but it definitely won't be the last. It is full of beautiful pictures; shares a lesson in behavior; and best of all, it has great vocabulary words that are explained through the story. Nancy's class is going to the apple orchard to pick apples. Lionel is her "trip buddie" but he gets himself into trouble numerous times. All works out in the end and Nancy gets her Gala Apples for her Dad too. My granddaughters love this book too!

This I Can Read Fancy Nancy series is perfect for young students to practice their reading skills and boost their confidence by practicing many sight and easy to sound out words, while enjoying a fun story. Fancy Nancy and her class are on a fall field trip to the apple orchards where they learn about various types of apples and also why not to cry wolf.

I love the Fancy Nancy books. I downloaded one on my kindle a few years ago, and read it to two of my little granddaughters, and they had me read it to them several times. I bought this Fancy Nancy to read to another little granddaughter.

I decided to try this little book in the audio version and I’m glad I did. The only thing I missed was seeing the illustrations, but I could tell by the cover that they’re colorful, busy and active. Listening to the story was delightful and charming. The audio publisher introduces and concludes the story with a chipper musical melody. Young Ms. Henessee’s narration was clear, adorable and easy to listen to. I thought it was really cool when I heard the tree branch sound effects. I didn’t expect that and it added to the level of interest and engagement.Lionel’s antics reminds me of The Boy Who Cried Wolf, so it’s a wonderful way to teach kids about the consequences of practical jokes that aren’t funny at all. If a parent chooses to use the audio version of this short story, listen for the other sound effects. It took me listening three times in the process of writing this review to hear that the tree branch sounds aren’t the only ones that enhance this story.I also liked how the story teaches new words by incorporating them naturally during the storytelling and adding “That is a fancy way of saying…” and they’re recapped at the end of the book under Fancy Nancy’s Fancy Words. My favorite is Orchard, a garden of trees. That’s the cutest description I’ve ever heard and I really liked it!It wraps up with Lionel doing something goofy and the little heroine finding the perfect apple for her dad.I wish they had audiobooks like this when my kids were little. I could do voices but I know I wouldn’t have been able to do the kind of cool sound effects I heard in Fancy Nancy: Apples Galore! It’s like a mini play and gives a child a well-rounded word experience. So, my recommendation is that parents do both – read the story and have their kids listen too. Since Ms. Hennessee’s voice is young, bright and energetic, I think kids will be able to relate and engage with the heroine’s apple adventure.

Summary:Nancy and her class took a trip to the apple tree farm to go apple picking. While the class was on the bus, one student Lionel was pretending to be sick, but it was all a joke. Once they got to the farm, the students started picking apples from the trees and were not allowed to do certain things. Lionel yelled that he was being stung by bees, but then he was joking again. Nancy and Lionel go away from the class to pick Gala apples. Lionel climbs the tree to get the apples, even though he wasn’t supposed to. While he was on the branch it started breaking and everyone thought that he was joking. Once he was safe from the tree, he was in trouble for climbing the tree after he was not supposed to. Possible Topics:1. It is not always good to joke around, need to be serious sometimes. 2. Includes a lot of fancy vocabulary to learn from. 3. Listen to what your teacher says.

Relatable for students. This is also a good book to read during the fall, especially an upcoming field trip to a farm!
