I'm not too keen on thrusting environmentalist slogans on very young readers, particularly as the subject matter could be presented in a less strident tone, but all in all I would consider Fancy Nancy: Every Day is Earth Day to be a very good book for beginning readers. As usual, Fancy Nancy does a good job of teaching kids the meaning of several new words, and the charming color illustrations of Aleksey and Olga Ivanov are very effective at drawing kids into the story.I guess you can interpret this book in one of two ways. On the one hand, it is rather preachy about going green and "saving" the Earth, but - on the other hand - it also shows what can happen when you cross the fine line between responsibility and annoying bossiness in pursuit of a cause. Fancy Nancy tends to go a little overboard on new things, and that is definitely the case here. Having just learned about Earth Day and the importance of caring for the planet, she takes it upon herself to make every day Earth Day, and her well-intentioned actions at home end up causing a few problems within her household. She learns the hard way not to be so bossy and overzealous, and I think it is this lesson (on the importance of respecting the rights and wishes of the other members of her family), that proves to be the most valuable message this cute little book communicates to its target audience of emerging readers. This is definitely not my favorite Fancy Nancy book, though.

Reading Level: 2.1Book Level/ Guided Reading Level: JFancy Nancy : Every Day is Earth Day is a Contemporary Realistic Fiction book in which Nancy, a releatable young girl protagonist, goes a little overboard in convincing her family to switch over to a “green” lifestyle after learning about the environment at school. By the end of the story, however, she finds the prefect balance of incorporating green habits into her family’s home life. This book would understandably be an ideal read aloud for primary elementary grades on Earth Day or during a science unit on the environment. This novel would also be a good mentor text to demonstrate the writing traits of conventions, voice (I particularly like how Nancy takes breaks in her narration to explain the “fancy” words she uses) and word choice, for students during writing workshop mini lessons. It could also serve as an example for students on creating dialogue and the conventions that accompany it as a writing lesson.

Nancy learns about Earth Day and how to become more environmentally cautious. She takes what she learns in school and brings it into her home. However she goes a little overboard. She learns that she can still be environmentally safe but doesn't have to take it to the extremes. I think this would be a good book for first graders. The font is big and throughout the book she teaches us new vocabulary words. I would implement this book when we are learning about Earth Day to teach children some ways to help become more environmentally friendly.Connor, Jane, A. Ivanov, and O. Ivanov. Fancy Nancy picture books are favorites of my first and second grade students. I was excited by the addition of "I can read!" books. This Fancy Nancy doesn't disappoint readers as Nancy comes home from school on Earth Day with lessons for her family. But in her efforts to be green she bumbles several attempts that cause her family some problems. Good read for my little girls.realistic fictionReviews & AwardsHorn Book 10/01/10

Another good book from my daughter's favorite series. This came out right around when my daughters were being taught about Earth Day so it was a great tie in to their school lessons. I particularly liked how it gave tips on being environmental as well as showed that compromise is in order at times as well. My daughters also liked seeing many things that we already do in the book as it helped them feel they are already helping the Earth.

Good book about Earth Day and balancing what people can control (leaving lights on or off at bed). It was the right balance. Hopefully my daughter takes note of it...

This book is about a little girl Nancy who is trying to be more green. She reminds her family to shut off lights and not waste water. She does not like the color green, but wants to save the planet. This book was funny, and was easy to keep reading. The illustrations were the perfect fit for the story. Purposes in the classroom:Read aloud: This book did a great job of teaching new vocabulary. I would use this book in a reading group since there are newer words that might be advanced for some students. This book would also work great in a science lesson. This book would be for kindergarten or first grade readers. There a decent amount of words per page, so help would be required. A good thing about this book is that students would be able to identify things they could do to help save the planet. Literary elements: This would be a good book to use with conflict. Even though Nancy is trying to green, she often gets into tricky situations. She has to learn to be less bossy, and let the family do what they think is best. This might help students relate to themselves. Students could also guess what might happen when Nancy decides to turn off lights, or lose her mom's printed paper.

This is a good book to help teach students about the importance to keep our environment clean and to recycle and be "green." Fancy Nancy learns how to be "green" and actually takes it too far and is being bossy. Her parents tell her that it's okay to be concerned about the environment, but that she cannot be bossy about it. They also support her and do what they can to become "green" themselves and help the environment.

Very cute illustrations in this book. I would use this book all year around in my classroom to remind the students about the importance of keeping our planet beautiful and conserving energy. The book also teaches kids about not being bossy and being polite and patience. At the end of the book their is a glossary of all the fancy words used and learned as a review.

As with many other Fancy Nancy books, there is more than one lesson to be learned here. Not only do we learn about the Earth and how to preserve it, but we also learn about being bossy and pushy and why that isn't the best way to get your point across.
