Her Secret Audiobook Summary

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Shelley Shepard Gray begins a new series–The Amish of Hart County–with this suspenseful tale of a young Amish woman who is forced to move to a new town to escape a threatening stalker.

After a stalker went too far, Hannah Hilty and her family had no choice but to leave the bustling Amish community where she grew up. Now she’s getting a fresh start in Hart County, Kentucky…if only she wasn’t too scared to take it. Hannah has become afraid to trust anyone–even Isaac, the friendly Amish man who lives next door. She wonders if she’ll ever return to the trusting, easy-going woman she once was.

For Isaac Troyer, the beautiful girl he teasingly called “The Recluse” confuses him like no other. When he learns of her past, he knows he’s misjudged her. However, he also understands the importance of being grateful for God’s gifts, and wonders if they will ever have anything in common. But as Hannah and Isaac slowly grow closer, they realize that there’s always more to someone than meets the eye.

Just as Hannah is finally settling into her new life, and perhaps finding a new love, more secrets are revealed and tragedy strikes. Now Hannah must decide if she should run again or dare to fight for the future she has found in Hart County.

I’m still doing a giddy little happy dance after reading Her Secret. Why?Because I changed my mind multiple times as to who I think the title is about. Because this ain’t your grandma’s Amish fiction – it’s a little edgy (in the best ways) while still retaining the sweetness that is a trademark of Gray’s writing. Because the suspense toys with “psychological thriller” status (and i LOVE that). Because the romance is charming and tender. And because tucked away gently in the pages of this great Amish romance thriller (yes, you read that right) is a message of looking beyond yourself, of realizing that more goes on in life than what directly – or indirectly – affects you, and encouragement for those who may feel alone.Bottom Line: It is no secret that I love suspense, I love romance, and I love books written by Shelley Shepard Gray. Combine all three? A recipe for a great read. Her Secret nicely sets the foundation for future books in the series, and I’m looking forward to meeting more Amish of Hart County!(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.)see my review at Reading Is My SuperPower

This is a story that we hear about in mainstream America, but this takes place with the Amish community, stalking and the horrors that go along with it.In this book we have the Hilty family leaving their friends and family in Ohio and moving to Kentucky, what a hard time for all in the family. I think moving is not easy for anyone, but with the tight community ties the Amish have, this move must have been devastating for the family, especially the younger members. When an unstable person threatens another, no matter where they live it seems to affect more than that individual, but all of those around them and their families. I can’t even comprehend the fear that must have gone along with their move, and then? I did love how this Amish community rallies around those in need, and how the fundraiser seems to pull everyone together. All through this book I was waiting for the other shoe to drop, and expecting the worse, and now you will need to join me in the page turning.I received this book through Lit Fuse Publicity Book Tours, and was not required to give a positive review.

If you have read books from this author than you know that this is a darker approach to the books readers have enjoyed about the Amish. Although, don't fear as this new side is still ones that readers will enjoy. Another great read from author, Shelley Shepard Gray. Again, I was able to slip right in and fall in love with the characters and this new location, Hart County. It was nice to see Hannah's family rallying behind her in support of what she was dealing with. Her stalker was someone to be fearful of. Yet, with the love and support of her family, Issac, and God; Hannah was able to find strength. Speaking of Issac, he comes from a good family. His and Hannah's relationship was kind and sweet. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

This is an unusual Amish suspense and romance tale. A young woman moves with her family to a Kentucky Amish community, as they are hoping to leave behind a stalker. For plot purposes we know right away that they will not succeed. While stalkers can be very manipulative and convincing, I did not see the method employed by this man as likely to work. I also thought that the young woman would have been better off to go out with lots of young people rather than hide away indoors. The setting is well realised and I would read more by this author. I read an ARC from Net Galley and Fresh Fiction. This is an unbiased review.

Title: Her Secret (The Amish of Hart County #1)Author: Shelley Shepard GrayPages: 272Year: 2017Publisher: Avon InspireMy rating is 4 stars.Hannah Hilty is a 20-year-old Amish woman who is the victim of a stalker. She and her family are forced to quit their jobs, leave their friends and move to a different state and different Amish community to flee this stalker. The local police were not too responsive to the Hilty family’s reporting of the stalker, so no legal action was taken. Hannah is now afraid to leave her new home. Her two younger, teenage siblings blame Hannah for making them move and leave all their friends. Hannah’s mother is forced to take a job outside the home and they are now living in a much smaller house. The whole family is in upheaval. This family secret is kept from the new Amish community, and there are other secrets the Hilty family is keeping as well.Isaac Troyer is unsure what to think of his new neighbors, the Hiltys. Their oldest daughter never leaves home alone and then very rarely. He jokingly calls her The Recluse. He is a 22-year-old Amish man who works in the family woodshop. He runs into Hannah one day while she has bravely decided to take a walk alone. The impression he makes on her he knows is unfavorable. A couple of days later he apologizes as well as lets her know that he knows her stalker history. The begin to form a tentative friendship. Isaac feels protective of Hannah and senses her fear of trusting others. Hannah feels safe with Isaac and begins to live again. However, her newfound freedom is threatened by her sister who unknowingly tells Hannah’s secret to the wrong person.I thought this was a good story to introduce the series and it kept me flipping pages quickly. The story is easy to read and I read it in one sitting. The romance between these two young Amish people is gentle, slow and tender. The mystery/thriller aspect of the story set in Amish country is a new twist for me and I liked that aspect especially. Readers can see the multiple secrets the Hilty family keeps from each other that create much dissension and disunity within the family, which added realism to the story. I’m looking forward to book two in the series and to what mystery the author will weave into the tale!Disclosure of Material Connection: I received one or more of the products or services mentioned above for free in the hope that I would mention it on my blog. Now Hannah must decide if she should run again or dare to fight for the future she has found in Hart County. My Review: The love of a new series goes without saying especially if the author is Shelley Shepard Gray. She is phenomenal and she has many excellent books as well as fans that will back me up on that statement. The reason I think that she writes so well is that she leaves no stone unturned. You can see this in her latest, Her Secret. Her Secret is a little different. I can say now that the cover did not appeal to me but it did make me think for a split second that I was reading non fiction. This story of Hannah Hilty and her family will scare the daylights out of you. Poor Hannah is now a petrified young girl afraid to turn a corner much less anything else. She has a stalker that is unwilling to give up so her family do what they can to make their little girl safe. Hannah has a lot going on with her as the reader learns more about her and the Troyer family will play a roll in their lives but how? Great writing and it will leave you spellbound!**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the author. All opinions are my own.

A different kind of Amish book from Shelley but I did like it.I think the style of her writing is different as well and I didn't put the book down until it was finished. The characters were well thought out and I enjoyed how Shelley can make them come alive in her books! I know this probably won't make any sense but even though I enjoyed the story I really couldn't connect with the people in the book. Maybe its because I've never been in that situation and hope I never am.But, I did like where they prayed to God and so did Hannah in her situation. Hannah didn't ask for what happened to her. But, then none of us really does. Sometimes we're in the wrong place at the wrong time. Even then I believe God is with us no matter what.I checked this book out from my public library.

Her Secret by Shelley Shepard Gray is an Amish romantic mystery and I really enjoyed it. It is the first book of The Amish Of Hart County which promises to be a cracking series. Her Secret has many themes including that of secrets. Secrets are never a good idea. They may become burdensome. Secrets need to be brought out into the light and burdens shared. "Even if the truth hurt, it was always better in the end."There is the topic of anxiety. Anxiety can ruin our lives. Anxiety can trap us into a prison of our own making. Anxiety links to worry. "It ain't a good idea to go around worrying about the future." God tells us to worry about nothing and to pray about everything. Fear is the opposite of faith. "Faith is believing when you don't have proof." Faith is handing our fears over to the One who has conquered death. The novel has the theme of friendship and families. The Amish are a close knit group, warm and welcoming. The reader 'feels' this warmth reaching out from the pages of the novel. The book has a mystery to be solved. The reader gets caught up in the action. There is an air of menace as the mystery involves stalking. Shelley Shepard Gray manages to capture this air and convey it to the reader who finds themselves becoming anxious on behalf of the characters.Within the novel, the characters are all wonderfully drawn. The reader is able to empathise with the characters who burst into life within the book and into the reader's heart.A wonderful start to a new series. I cannot wait for more.I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

When I did start reading Her Secret, I panicked because it was an Amish-themed book. *Why did I sign up to read this? There's a glut of Amish books on the market. I've read most of them. What does this one have to offer?*Well ... I didn't need to worry, because I read Her Secret non-stop over the next day. Carried it around with me on my iPad). Snuck in "just 5 more minutes" anywhere I could.Engaging, mysterious, fast-paced, and well-developed, Her Secret will keep you guessing until the last page. It truly does have a lot to offer, and that is a pleasant surprise. Absolutely recommended.I received a free e-copy of the book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

I am totally impressed with this book. Didn't know Shelley could write such a good mystery. It kept me coming back for more and more. Can't wait to read the next book in this series. You did great Shelley. Thank you! I had a feeling that Shane wasn't who he said he was. I kept thinking the worst of what could have happened to Jenny for secretly meeting him.

Compelling. Chilling. Inspiring.Shelley Shepard Gray knows how to dig deep into the hearts of her characters, exposing weaknesses and strengths in equal measure as she forces them along a complex path of self-discovery.Her Secret reveals the raw grittiness of every day people. Yes, this is an Amish story -- but not the typical kind. The Hilty family is as naturally dysfunctional as any Englisch equivalent. Each family member faces common challenges in unique ways. None of them do it perfectly. There were times I wanted to box ears and rattle teeth. And just as often I wanted to hug them tight and whisper comforting platitudes. It's the kind of story that seeps into your bones until you become a part of it.Thriller-style suspense tempered by tender romance promises a page-turner of a read.My thanks to Avon Inspire and Litfuse Publicity Group for providing me with a copy of this book.

Her Secret is Shelley Shepard Gray's first book in a new series, an Amish story with a touch of suspense. If you read a lot of Amish fiction, you may find the setting of this series to be a bit unfamiliar. The story is mostly set in Hart County, Kentucky, away from the typical Amish settings in places like Lancaster County and Holmes County. As Shelley has the Hilty family settle into their new home, she brings in details about this unfamiliar area. The plot of the story has some intriguing twists that keep the story moving pretty well, although it does get a little bogged down at times. Most of the characters are interesting and develop well throughout the story. The suspense, love story, and faith mix well with the other elements to make for an enjoyable read for fans of Amish fiction. Thanks to Litfuse Publicity Group for providing a copy of Her Secret. I was glad to share my thoughts in this review.
