His Promise Audiobook Summary

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Shelley Shepard Gray’s latest Christmas novel in her Amish of Hart County series.

It’s set to be a white Christmas in Hart County, and Grace King is pet-sitting in a beautiful home with only a difficult dachshund for company. Just as she starts to miss the bustle of her large Amish family, Grace runs into a familiar face. Living right next door is John Michael Miller. He’s a fireman now, but five years ago, he had courted her older sister, then broke her heart. Seeing him again stirs Grace’s anger, but also reminds her of deeper feelings she’s done her best to deny.

The infatuation John Michael once saw in Grace’s eyes is long gone, though his complicated attraction to her remains. He had walked away all those years ago when he realized he was falling in love with the wrong sister. Now, as suspicious fires are set in their community, that’s not an option. Grace dismisses his warnings, and John Michael vows to keep an eye on her. But he can’t help wondering if he’s reconnected with Grace, only to risk losing her again.

Now all John Michael wants for Christmas is to keep Grace safe, in the hopes that they can one day have a future together.

I thought this story was Christmassy even with all the other things happening in the story. There was hard feelings between some of the characters due to a broken engagement in the past. But forgiveness was also a part of this story. There was lots of twist and turns and it was unpredictable. Entertaining and a page turner. I listened to the audio and the Narrator,Tavia Gilbert was very good at changing her voice for each of the characters. Very well written by Shelley Shepherd Gray. Grace King is pet-setting for the Lee's difficult dachshund when he runs away from her while she's walking him. While searching for him she runs into John Michael Miller, her sisters former fiance. Since John Michael broke off their engagement there is hard feelings between him and the King family. But circumstances throw John Michael and Grace together and soon the infatuation they once felt for each other returns. Can anything good come from this? This is a well rounded story with lots of things happening in the community of Hart County. Home fires and robberies are happening often. Grace is alone with the dog at the Lee's large home when she notices foot tracks in the snow around the outside of the house. Are the robbers planning to break into the house while Grace is there dog-sitting?Readers of Amish Fiction and fans is the Author will enjoy this book. It's part of a series but can be read as a stand alone.

Grace is a pet sitter, working over the Christmas season. Staying in the home of Englishers and taking care of their dog is a lonely job, with her friends and family off visiting others out of town. She takes the dog for a walk across the fields, and he promptly runs away. Help arrives in the form of her sister’s former boyfriend, the one whom Grace secretly liked. She had hardly seen him during the three years since the breakup, but it doesn’t take long before she - and John, now a fireman - realize they both have feelings for each other. There are complications due to his past relationship, and dealing with the reactions of her family won’t be easy. Adding to the stress is a series of arson fires and robberies. The author does a good job of setting up obstacles and resolving the difficulties. Though entertaining, it is also a thoughtful tale.

Another good one from Gray. You don't want to miss it.

I loved how the characters here had compassion for those less fortunate in their community, and how the two main individuals come to basically the same conclusion at the same time from different places. How can a couple have a romance when the girl’s family really dislikes the fellow? Answers are about to come and maybe they are right about him, but you will need to find out for yourself. We also get to spend some time with a cute, maybe, little pup.Throughout the challenges that seem to be happening, fires, robberies etc. we get to find out what is really important, and it is not the Christmas tree with the dog bones! This is a quick read, and I loved being back in Hart County and with the people that I have a fondness for.I received this book through Edelweiss and the Publisher HarperCollins, and was not required to give a positive review.

Title: His Promise (The Amish of Hart County #6)Author: Shelley Shepard GrayPages: 338 (ARC)Year: 2018Publisher: Avon InspireMy rating is 4 out of 5 stars.John Michael Miller is an Amish firefighter. He loves his job serving his local community with his fellow Englishers. He has a sense of purpose and his job fulfills his desire to help others. When he keeps bumping into Grace King, his old attraction for her comes roaring back. He initially met her when he was courting her sister. As he spent more time at their family home, trying to get to know Grace’s sister, he found himself wanting to spend more time with Grace. He abruptly ended his courtship with her sister when he realized there was no future relationship when he felt so about Grace. Her sister was upset about the breakup, and John Michael has kept his distance from the whole family for three years. Now, his contact with Grace and the danger she encounters triggers his protectiveness and awakens his old feelings for her. He also wants to catch whomever is setting fires in various locations.Grace King has her own pet-sitting business, which has done quite well. She is now dog-sitting for a wealthy couple who is out of town for two weeks. The house is right next door to the Miller family home. Grace bumps into John Michael while searching for her runaway dog. They are awkward around each other at first, but as they continue to talk and spend time together Grace’s crush on John Michael is renewed. She kept her feelings of years past to herself as he was courting her sister, but now both are single. Her sister is interested in someone else. Can she and John Michael possible have a future? First, however, Grace needs to find out who has broken into her temporary home and why.The story was slow at the beginning and didn’t have much action, but the pace did pick up. I liked seeing John Michael protective of Grace and his unselfishness. I also liked seeing the Amish and Englishers working together as a firefighting team. I have enjoyed this entire series. Some characters were more likeable than others and some stood out more than others, but the main characters in each book faced situations in life that required them to lean on God and learn of His faithfulness in doing what was best.Disclosure of Material Connection: I received one or more of the products or services mentioned above for free in the hope that I would mention it on my blog. When I sit down to read a book by Ms. Gray, I always feel like I’m visiting with a good friend and know that I’m going to be completely engaged and will enjoy every second of a good and interesting conversation. As an added bonus in, His Promise, I also got a mystery and a few unsettling moments.I loved Grace King and her occupation of pet-sitting, this was the first time that I have read an Amish fiction novel where the protagonist made a living doing something other than quilting, baking or something quite so English. I fell in love with, Snooze the five-year old, unsocial and stubborn dachshund she was caring for during the Christmas season. The author created the perfect hero when she created John Michael Miller. A handsome and caring firefighter that was so easy to love.As much as I loved Grace and John Michael, I loved Dorma Schultz even more and my heart broke for her and the way her life had changed as she aged. Dorma is truly a precious and lovely character that will forever live in my heart. That brings me to another one of the many reasons why this author remains one of my favorites, her ability to make me genuinely care about her characters and getting me so caught up in their lives. The Amish of Hart County series has been one of my favorites and I can’t recommend it enough. I’ve enjoyed the mystery, the unique storylines, and the times I’ve been a little on the edge of my seat. If you haven’t read any of the other books in this series, His Promise can easily be read as a stand alone. It has a great storyline and moves at the perfect pace with warm characters that you will love.I received a copy from the publisher and was under no obligation to write a review. All opinions are my own.

Hands down one of the most persnickety canine heroes comes in the shape of a dachshund aptly named Snooze...only when he isn't snoozing he's causing trouble. Grace has never had such a difficult charge. She's pet-sitted just about every type of critter you can imagine -- feathered, furred -- even scaled -- and she's always found a way to bond with every one of them. Until Snooze. He leads her on a merry chase...and right into the arms of a man she had a secret crush on in her teens. The same man her sister was practically engaged to! It's been five years since John Michael broke things off with Grace's sister. Five years for the King family to nurse their bitterness and pull Grace into their unhealthy resentment. Now, here she is living right next door to John Michael who seems intent on not only seeking forgiveness but renewing their friendship. And doesn't her heart just flutter at that thought? While her stomach gnarls in knots over what her parents will say! I so love a twisted mess of a romance that seems doomed from the start!Thankfully Snooze brings some great comic relief to the more serious aspects of this story. Along with the angsty romance, there's an arson mystery to solve and a case of elder neglect and Grace is in the middle of it all! I was in a page-turning frenzy right to the end! What a spectacular send off for the last book in the Amish of Hart County series!

HIS PROMISE is book six in Ms. Gray's Amish of Hart County series but it easily stands alone. There are some previously mentioned characters, but they are nonintrusive and you don't need to read their story to understand this one. Grace is pet-sitting a grumpy dog and at first I think she is not the brightest crayon in the box. She puts the leash on the dog, carries him outside, unhooks the leash and puts him down and the dog promptly runs away. Well, duh. I guess she learns her lesson though, the dog is walked on the leash from then on. The suspense is really low key. There is an arsonist working with a robber and that is keeping the police and fire department busy. Grace sees footprints around the pet owners residence and the door opened, but no one believes her until after Grace invites a lady with beginning dementia to stay with her. There is a stronger than usual, for Ms. Gray's books, faith message, which is really nice. The romance is, of course, pure and wholesomely sweet. Fans of Amish romance, low-grade romantic suspense, and Ms. Gray will love this book. It will make a great gift for the reader on your Christmas list. I was given a copy free. All opinions are my own.

His Promise by Shelley Shepard Gray is the sixth tale in The Amish of Hart County series. Grace King is pet sitting, Snooze while his owners are on vacation. She is enjoying the quiet time away from her large and rambunctious family, but Grace had not anticipated so much of it. Her grandparents came down ill with the flu so her whole family packed up and headed to Ohio to take care of them and spend the holidays together. Grace’s best friend, Jennifer and her family have also left town for the holidays. Grace is out walking Snooze when he darts off. She is hunting for the little rascal when Grace encounters John Michael Miller who lives next door. John Michael had courted Grace’s sister, Beth three years ago and left her with a broken heart when he ended the relationship abruptly. Grace had been sixteen years old at the time when she was quite smitten with John Michael and did her best to keep her feelings under wraps. John Michael (what a mouthful) is a fire fighter for Hart County Fire Department and helps his parents with their farm during his downtime. He broke up with Beth when he realized he was courting the wrong sister. After helping Grace locate Snooze, he walks her home where they see strange footprints in the snow that circle the house. John Michael is worried about Grace’s safety especially with the number of questionable fires in the area and suspicious robberies. He is not about to let something happen to Grace now that he has reconnected with her. Will a dangerous situation lead to a happily ever after? Christmas is a time for miracles. His Promise is a part of The Amish of Hart County series, but it can be read alone. I thought His Promise was well-written with steady pacing. Grace is a kind yet naïve woman who has a pet sitting service. She is the quietest member of her family and, while she loves her family, she needs some time alone now and then. Grace’s generosity comes pouring out of the pages as she goes out of her way to help someone in need. John Michael felt he at home with the King family, but he felt he needed to stay away after he broke things off with Beth. John Michael now realizes that he handled the breakup of his relationship with Beth incorrectly (he was too abrupt). John Michael is a firefighter which is a dangerous and unusual professional for someone who is Amish. Some of the Christian themes prevalent in His Promise are honoring God, prayer, have faith, helping others and all things are possible with God. The Christian elements are woven into the story seamlessly. His Promise has a lovely ending that readers will appreciate. I did not understand why John Michael nor Grace ever spoke with their parents, a deacon, or the Bishop when someone in their community needed assistance. I like that they were helping the individual, but it was not a long term solution. Part of the Amish culture is the sense of community so this seemed out of place. I am giving His Promise 4 out of 5 stars. There are recipes at the end of the book along with discussion questions. His Promise contains romance, suspense, mystery, faith, family, generosity, a cute dog, and the spirit of Christmas.

Oh, how I enjoyed this Amish Christmas story by one of my favorite authors. I've read a lot of this author's books, but her Amish Christmas stories are delightful! The main characters in this book are well-developed and likable; but the real scene-stealer here is the little dachshund, Snooze, who Grace King is hired to care for while his owners are on a holiday vacation. This little guy has a huge personality, and his antics are varied and sometimes hilarious.Highly recommended!**This book is completely clean in language and content. :0}I borrowed this book from the local public library.############

This book was among the best to keep you reading and not wanting to put the book down. Grace was an exceptional young lady so thoughtful and caring. Happy that she fell in love with the right man who helped her so much in her busy life of pet sitting and taking care of Dorma. A very Happy ending.

It’s Christmas and Grace is pet sitting at a wealthy woman’s house. She is missing her family who have left for the season. Grace sees the man , John, who had courted her sister and broke her sister’s heart. Grace has always had feelings for him and the spark is still there. The town has been having break ins and fires. John is a firefighter and worried about the town and Grace. Even Though Grace is Amish the story doesn’t have that much Amish in it.
