Hot British Boyfriend Audiobook Summary
This enchanting debut teen romance novel, which follows one girl across the Atlantic in a quest to find adventure, love (preferably with a guy with a cute accent), and maybe even herself, is perfect for fans of Kasie West and Stephanie Perkins.
After a horrifying public rejection by her crush, Ellie Nichols does what any girl would do: she flees the country. To be more precise, she joins her high school’s study abroad trip to England. While most of her classmates are there to take honors courses and pad their college applications, Ellie is on a quest to rebuild her reputation and self-confidence. And nothing is more of a confidence booster than getting a hot British boyfriend.
When Ellie meets Will, a gorgeous and charming Brit, she vows to avoid making the same mistakes she did with the last guy she liked. Which is why she strikes up a bargain with Dev, an overachieving classmate who she’s never clicked with, but who does seem to know a lot about the things Will is interested in: If he helps her win over her crush, then she’ll help him win over his.
But even as Ellie embarks on a whirlwind romance, she still needs to figure out if this is actually the answer to all her problems . . . and whether the perfect boyfriend is actually the perfect boy for her.
Don’t miss this teen romance book, for girls 13-16 and up as well as adult readers who enjoy a well-written and fun teen romance novel.

“Do something you don’t care about that makes you lots of money. You can do everything you love on the side.” I can understand this and currently am doing this. I still have pride in my job but it doesn’t stress me out as much I used to. I definitely most things on the side. This is a definite YA romance to read in Feb 2021!I love the traveling I wish I could travel and I understand why people don’t want to read this due to the current world climate. My favorite parts about this book were the side characters and their different hobbies!!! Fairy gardens! Quidditch! This ended on such a high note I loved it! Thank you so much Harper Collins for this book!

Rating: 3.5 stars This book got off to a bit of a slow start for me with a very teen rom-com embarrassment moment and an ill-advised flight from the country. But dang, haven't we all wished at some point during high school that we could just run away and escape some embarrassing situation? I shudder to think of what high school is like in today's highly digital world where your embarrassment can be captured and then go viral. Which is exactly what happens to Ellie. If you've ever read a romance novel, especially a YA romance novel, you'll be able to see where this is going from a mile away - and that's okay. I love that this book is as much about Ellie finding her own way and really growing into herself as it is about her relationships with boys. For me, this was more about her building some real friendships with Sage, Dev, and Huan and learning more about herself than it was about the romance (though in the end I did get a bit swoony over the romance). If you're reading this for the romance plot, you're probably not going to enjoy it (and I can't really say more because spoilers?). If you're reading it for a YA coming of age story about forging real friendships, learning to be comfortable with your true self, and a little romance sprinkled in, then you'll like this one a lot more. A digital ARC of this book was provided by the publisher via Edelweiss+ for review. All opinions are unbiased and my own.Like this review? Omg I found a new favorite 😭😭😭 I loved this book SO FREAKING MUCH. Right off the bat it sounded perfect for me. Like The Fill-In Boyfriend and Meant to Be rolled into one. And it did not disappoint! In fact, it exceeded my expectations and I loved every single page. Some of the best aspects:- In just the first chapter Ellie was put in the most embarrassing situation I have EVER read about, which immediately caught my attention and made me feel awful for her, which quickly turned into me loving that crazy girl to death. (view spoiler)[Side note: Crystal is kinda the worst! (hide spoiler)] - Ellie's mom is the best 🥺 I love their relationship so much! - I loved Dev the moment he arrived on screen. - Ellie and Sage's budding friendship! I 100% expected Sage to just be the stick-up-her-butt roommate, and it warmed my heart so much to see her and Ellie grow close instead! - (view spoiler)[DEV GOT HER HER ACORNS FOR HER FAIRY GARDEN (hide spoiler)]- I like that Ellie doesn’t know what she wants to do with her life, that she’s not interested in college. I don’t at all have a problem with characters who do know what they want and are excited for college, but that does seem to be the majority of YA characters, but there are so many people like Ellie as well and I’m so glad to see that being represented! It was refreshing and encouraging.- The relationships are so realistic and it warms my heart!!! I'm not sure I've seen friendships/a contemporary found family trope so perfectly done since The Summer I Turned Pretty (ahem, my forever all-time favorite)- I love how Ellie and her friends handled conflict. (view spoiler)[I'm specifically thinking about when Dev gets annoyed at Ellie for wanting to ditch them to hang out with Will. Like it’s definitely annoying for people to ditch their friends for people they’re dating, but I love how Huan stood up for her and how Dev understood the situation and wasn’t petty about it. True friendship! (hide spoiler)]- I LOVE THIS GROUP OF FRIENDS I CAN'T SAY IT ENOUGH- I laughed out loud multiple times! Just some examples: Frank and Huan's protective gear against Will's pretentiousness. Dev trying to run away from a sex converstation. Art slapping Huan in the face.- I thought this was just going to be an England book—which I'm all for—but THEY GO ON A SMALL TRIP TO ITALY TOO. Italy is my favorite place ever and I will read any book set there lol. I didn't even know they were going to go when I picked up this book! I can't express it enough—this book was written for me!- (view spoiler)[I LOVE that Ellie is sensitive about being loyal to Will and even having slightly romantic thoughts toward Dev makes her feel guilty. I am SO SICK of books/movies/TV shows normalizing cheating, emotional cheating included. I so admired that Ellie was genuinely loyal to Will, and the moment she realized she actually had feelings for Dev she ended things with Will. THAT'S THE WAY TO DO IT, GIRL (hide spoiler)]- The entire ending had me 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 I'm just absolutely freaking in love with this book and every sentence added to the perfection and the ending was everything I wanted it to be and more. I HAVE ZERO COMPLAINTS. ZERO.

Swoony, cute and heartwarming in a variety of ways that I wouldn't have imagined! HBB has been my most anticipated read since two years, that is ever since that GORGEOUS cover was revealed, and I'm so so glad that I finally got around to reading it! I realise there are a bunch of mixed reviews surrounding this book that may hinder you (and with good reason) from prioritising HBB on your TBR, but here's why I think you should read HBB: 1. All the cutest little things- like Ellie's love for making fairy gardens, Dev and Sage's nerdy geek out sessions with reference to art history and culture, Huan's beatboxing- all these little things will make you go awwww repeatedly and make you feel all mushy inside! 🥺🤭2. A relatable female character- while there are some aspects of Ellie as a female lead that I don't like (more on that later), she's so refreshingly average as a lead character and that itself makes her endearing. She makes stupid decisions sometimes, succumbs to procrastinating and the fear of failure, is vulnerable and insecure about being herself openly and wants, more than anything, for everyone to look at her and see her as capable, talented and well...not what she thinks her name makes her sound like ie a kindergartner with a penchant for giggling and being stupid and nonsensical. While I have seen a lot of readers say that her immaturity and slight bratty-ness was one of the reasons they didn't like HBB, I think those two reasons were why I loved the book! Its wholesome to see her grow throughout, and yet remain slightly the same even at the end. She's a work in progress, a flawed heroine in the simplest way, and I love that about her because to me, that's as close to a real teenager as it can get! 💯👏3. Realistic romance arc- hear me out, the romance arc in this story is cute, simple and well written. It is also lyrically descriptive, highly place-centered and culture centered. Like Ellie acknowledges in the book, going to a beautiful place like London and Venice, it is almost impossible to not romanticise everything, including death and misery, and call it something more poetic and beautiful while still being tragic. And when you have London and Venice set in a romance book, of course it's going to be ten times more romanticised and I loved how the author made good use of that! Swoony, cute and adorable- that's what the romance was like in this book! ❤️🤗So, to sum it all up, if you like: ✴️ Best-friends-to-lovers, slow burn ✴️ Romances set in cities and revolving around locations for growth of romantic tension✴️ Found family while being away from family ✴️ Cute hobbies and characters who make you go UwU✴️ And of course, lots and lots of swooning over British boys...Then this book is for you! Final verdict: 4 stars for this cute, funny and adorable little Romcom! Definitely going to remember it whenever I listen to London Boy / Cornelia Street ❣️

I feel like I should preface my review by saying Hot British Boyfriend had so many of the things I love most about YA, but it also reminded me how far past my own YA days I am. I’m not the intended audience for books like this, and I’m fully aware of that, so I always try to also be aware that my thoughts and feelings could likely be very different from the book’s actual target audience. I see so many adults reading YA and getting mad that the teenagers in the book…*gasp!*...had the audacity to act like teenagers. Like, what did you expect? If you wanted to read about people making mature decisions or not being driven by hormones, maybe you should have picked up a different book. So I always know going into a young adult book that I will likely want to shake the characters at some point (or many points), as well as sit them down and talk to them, and probably hug them really tight. I wanted to do all those things with this book and there was a lot of internal ‘Ugh, come on, Ellie, do better!’, but honestly, I feel like that’s the sign of a good YA book that will likely really speak to its intended audience of teens.Okay, that was a long preface, but I thought it should be said. I feel like Teenage Marie would have loved this book with her whole heart, so it’s Teen Me I tried to channel while reading.Hot British Boyfriend was adorable and entertaining. I enjoyed the characters, plus the setting made me go all heart-eyes on multiple occasions. Ellie didn’t have many friends before going to England, and she was stinging from the rejection of the one person she thought was her friend. Between the very public humiliation that led her to leave DC, and the fact the program she was part of was meant for honour students - which she wasn’t - she felt she had a lot to prove, both to herself and to others. She was wary of people and their motives, but quickly befriended her roommate Sage, along with two other students from back home, Dev and Huan. When I said this book had so many of the things I love most about YA, one of those things was the friend group. These four seemed like such unlikely friends, but they worked together. Their interactions were amusing and sometimes heartwarming, and I wanted to be part of their group. I also really appreciated Ellie’s growth and how she slowly found her way, figured things out, made mistakes, sorted her priorities, and learned to be herself and unashamedly love the things she loved. Teenage Marie would definitely have been friends with her and we would have rocked our matching unicorn hoodies and made some amazing faerie gardens together. If you’re looking for a light, sweet, feel-good YA book, look no further (unless you’re an adult who hates when teens act like teens - if that’s the case, maybe give this one a pass and leave it to the actual teens). Pack your bags and prepare for a fun cross-Atlantic vacation with a group of friends you’ll wish you were part of.*I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher via Edelweiss. All thoughts are my own
