I received this book, for free, in exchange for an honest review. This was wider in scope (it covers shark attacks, street fights, and landing helicopters) but shallower in depth in some sections then my favorites. The book is a mixed bag, with a very nice fishing, first aid and hunting sections. The street fights section had some very important points and may be worth the price of admission alone. On the other hand, the wild edibles section was pretty pitiful (many sections are only a few pages long). I recommend this book highly, but suggest pairing it with other similar complementary books.

This book was, one word, amazing! It was really interesting and the survival techniques within them, I'll try and commit to memory! I felt it was a big inspiration for me to crawl out of a reading slump and for my adventurous side. Grylls has spent a hefty amount of time collecting all of this information, condensing it down and giving us it in small bites, mixed in with his own stories to tell. My favourite section was the one on blisters as I'll be partaking in my DofE Silver award soon enough. The cover is so beautiful just to caress - which sounds weird but I love the orange! :)I mean sure, after reading this, I don't know how to fly a helicopter but I do have a few know how's and the section on how to survive a dog attack made me feel a little skirmish, but what some reviewers need to admit is the truth, a fight is a fight, survival is survival, do what you must as I'm sure an animal, if persuaded enough, will not stop itself ripping you limb from limb.

Not the best book I've ever read... but maybe some knowledge within it will help save my life someday. I am American. Grylls is not. So some of the words he uses are different. For example, open fracture instead of compound fracture or torch instead of flashlight. That can be a bit confusing. Grylls does reference his experiences. He's got a lot of experiences (like a parachute failing to deploy, falling into an ice crevasse on Mount Everest, getting caught in an hurricane on a mountain and more) that are very interesting.

Personally, I think this book is one of the most intriguing books I have ever read because of its variety of weird survival tips and the number of ways you can build everyday items with nature. As well as that this book is so useful because of its step to step tips on how to build things such as a warm bed or wooden gun that can kill just as easily as a normal handgun. The way the writer approaches the book is in a personal way as he relates to each thing in a way that he explains how hard it was and how he did it.

Solid. Grylls has no concept of literary style, so the whole thing is crazy dry- but the form fits the content. Makes me want to rethink what’s in the back of my car. I should buy a copy of this and stick it back there, as well.

Man this is a good read. Grylls doesn't waste time or pages with intros or anecdotes he dives right into it.

Blooming good read despite the fact that I'll probably never (touches wood) ever have to use any of this knowledge. Well, here's hoping anyway.Yeah, so it pretty much what you expect, and it's well written too. And, erm, that's about all I want to say I suppose.Apart from this: one bugbear: lots of space used up by blank pages (one after every subject) , headings (ten big words on a single page), intros (60 words on a single page) and summaries (30 words on a single page). If you figure 100 subjects, that's about 200 pages (out of a book of 400 pages) wasted right there. Still, it makes it a suitably substantial book with which to hit an attacking shark with!'Nuff said.

This is a wonderful book about survival! Although I live a normal lifestyle, I tried to learn lots of the information, in case I ever need it. I will keep it for a reference book. Just today, though, as I walked through a creek bed, I flashed on his advice that a creek bed could overflow with water at any time! Recommended for all older kids, teens, and adults!

The survival guide “How to Stay Alive: The Ultimate Survival Guide for any Situation” by Bear Grylls, gives a substantial amount of information that one needs to survive in a life or death situation. Anyone who enjoys learning about survival knows that Bear Grylls can teach you a great deal of information. Being in the British army, Grylls has an enormous amount of survival experiences that he shares in this book. From administrating first aid, to learning how to fly a helicopter, to building animals traps this book contains a variety of useful information.Being an active member in a Boy Scout troop for over 4 and a half years, I have had the opportunity to participate in different types of camping trips. I have camped in the mountains, in the woods, on a ship, and many other places. When camping in the woods and in the mountains, it is very easy to get lost and discombobulated. One needs specific skills in order to survive in this situation. Grylls’ book provides this critical survival information. By reading this book I can teach myself ways to survive and find my direction when lost while camping.People who are looking to further their education about survival in the wilderness should read this book because of the valuable survival information. With over 400 pages of facts such as how to signal people with your body, or how to tell time with your fingers, and how to survive a kidnapping, reading this book can save your life. A book full of facts can easily get boring but somehow, and in some way Bear Grylls is able to keep the reader focused and entertained. People who have a difficult time reading for long periods of time can enjoy this book. The authors writing style lends itself to effortless reading. Bear Grylls splits the book into countless topics. Every two to four pages there is a different topic and at the end of the topic is a short summary about everything you just read. This is a great place for people to pause and take a relate on their new knowledge. Many aspects of the book are extremely grim. One of the topics is how to defend yourself from a dog attack, which is helpful but also gruesome. “Go for the eyes, crush it’s ribs, smash it’s head” these are some guided steps he tells us to do. One criticism about the book is Bear Grylls tries to cover way too many different topics; therefore, he is not able to go into a lot of detail. This leaves the reader with very little information about some of the topics at hand. You cannot learn how to fly a helicopter in two pages. The book includes pictures and diagrams to help you understand the author’s strategies, however the are not beneficial. The pictures are of terrible quality and the diagrams are difficulty to understand, which contributed to confusion. In conclusion, I would recommend this book to my friends and family because it could potentially save their lives. Overall, I would give this book a 4 out of 5. There is an abundance of useful information in this book, but the details within the topics are very vague. Bear Grylls book is a great read for the average everyday person.

A continuation of my "survival series" and a pretty great addition at that. I wasn't sure about this one at first, haven't watched anything of Bear Grylls despite his television popularity... but within his introduction to this book he mentions the fact that he is former British Special Forces (SAS) and that he's ascended Mount Everest. Okay Mr. Grylls... you have my attention now, fair enough. Overall this is exactly what you would expect from a book like this. He covers a wide array of topics some more interesting than others. If you're like me you will take a few notes here and there about various tips that really connect with your particular interests and life. There are a few sections in here that seemed a bit far fetched and out of scope to me... such as the flying a helicopter one, but then again from a former SAS guy, it does make sense he would cover something that was relevant to his military training. I can honestly say that there has been at least a dozen things that I've received as takeaways from this book and did really enjoy it. Not quite enough to give it a 5/5, but this is still a fun and absolutely worth while survival book to add to your collection or even use as a starting point. I feel like this book did a good job of not being too light within a given topic, while at the same time not going into too much detail making any particular subject overly dense. I would recommend this book for someone looking for more information about general survival in a wide variety of scenarios and situations.

Survive a bear attack?Make fire from virtually nothing? Fly a plane in an emergency?Survive in the most extreme conditions? There is barely a terrain he hasn’t conquered or an extreme environment he hasn’t experienced. From his time in 21 SAS, through to his extraordinary expeditions in the toughest corners of each of the seven continents, Bear has accumulated an astonishing wealth of survival knowledge. Now i will admit that this book is not for everyone! And yes fingers crossed you might never have to or be unlucky enough to use any of the skills provided in this book, BUT it's better to know them and never use them, than need them and not know them. And if your like me and love to learn new skills and want to travel in life then this book is a life send literally! From the extreme of being lost at sea, to the basic necessities of shelter building and fire making, it's all here and yes i will admit it does ask for much in terms of flying/landing a helicopter or plane in an emergency situation which in that case i much rather land a plane as it's easier and i have more chances of surviving if i crash or mess up, because let's be honest in that situation you are basically crashing but with style and control unless your in a helicopter then your just crashing and praying you still have your life left when you've stopped crashing. But overall yes this can be considered a toilet read and not one you need to read, but like i said in the beginning, it's better to be safe than sorry and I don't know about you, but in a survival situation I really don't want to be sorry, so when i do travel I will be taking this book with me, just in case, I'll be ready, and that's the point of survival, being ready for anything. 5/5 Star GoodReads ⭐⭐⭐⭐🌟100/100 litres of pee 🥃
