I See London, I See France Audiobook Summary

“This endlessly fun and hugely entertaining romp through Europe had me laughing out loud and reaching for my passport.” –Jennifer E. Smith, author of Windfall

A POPSUGAR Best Young Adult Novel of 2017!

Nineteen-year-old Sydney has the perfect summer mapped out. She’s spending the next four and a half weeks travelling through Europe with her childhood best friend Leela. Their plans include Eiffel Tower selfies, eating cocco gelato, and making out with tres hot strangers.

Her plans do not include Leela’s cheating ex-boyfriend showing up on the flight to London, falling for the cheating ex-boyfriend’s tres hot friend, monitoring her mother’s spiraling mental health via texts, or feeling like the rope in a friendship tug of war.

In this hilarious and unforgettable adventure, New York Times bestselling author Sarah Mlynowski tells the story of a girl learning to navigate secret romances, thorny relationships, and the London Tube. As Sydney zigzags through Amsterdam, Switzerland, Italy, and France, she must learn when to hold on, when to keep moving, and when to jump into the Riviera…wearing only her polka dot underpants.

This was a really cute summer contemporary! It was also definitely one of the better YA travel novels I've read. I felt like I was back on my own backpacking trip in Europe that I took earlier this year, so the nostalgia definitely helped me enjoy it more, especially since I've been to all but one of the places they went to! I do have quite a few thoughts to share so I will do a video review as soon as I'm caught up with them (I have a ton to do still)

This was such a great story about backpacking, and I definitely liked the plot. It was fun to read about travelling through Europe when you live in Europe yourself. The things that I didn't really like were the clichés, and Leela's behaviour. Leela was so egocentric sometimes, it was just so annoying at some points.

If you're like me and all you want to do is travel the world and you have this epic dose of Wanderlust, this book will be a perfect read for you! Backpacking Europe is on a to-do list of - I'm pretty sure - 99% of the people. I mean who doesn't want to spend a summer in Europe?! I am lucky enough to live in Europe so I travel all around, all the time (See my Instagram), but Sydney and Leela only have one summer to do it. To spend a month traveling around Europe, where they visit some of the most amazing cities, meet amazing people and have lots of fun. This book describes backpacking so well. I really enjoyed following Sydney's adventures. Maybe this way of traveling won't be appealing for some, but this is how it really is. You will meet the most random people from all around the world. You will meet the hot guys you'll want to hook up with. You will make the most spontaneous plans and will probably go with the flow. You will be disappointed in some places and you'll be in love with other.I definitely recommend this book for all the travel-loving people!Blog | Twitter | Facebook | Instagram | Pinterest

Yesssss. I am loving all the summery travel stories that 2017 has thrown at us. I went from accepting that I'll never get to go on holiday to constantly thinking about my next trip, even taking my first solo holiday this year. In The Girl's Guide to Summer (titled I See London, I See France in the US), 19-year-old best friends Sydney and Leela are off on a once-in-a-lifetime European adventure, visiting England, France, Italy, Switzerland, just to name a few.I live in Europe, but I've never been on an interrailing adventure. I've never even considered it. In The Girl's Guide... the two friends have it all planned out... until spontaneity takes hold and the girls jump from train to train, heading to another country when the moment takes them. (Come to think of it, it seems like the perfect road trip for someone who gets car sick...). I particularly loved experiencing London through Sydney and Leela's eyes (and may have shouted at them a few times when they forgot to get travel money and didn't check when they could check into a hostel. *headdesk*). I also enjoyed reading about the places I've never been to. With such freedom – and only a few weeks – comes exhaustion and drama. I constantly feared for Leena and Sydney's friendship! Ex-boyfriends, new boyfriends, tense friendships... The Girl's Guide to Summer has it all.I also reviewed this book over on Pretty Books.

I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCHThis review is also on my blog https://princessofbookaholics.wordpre...About: Sydney is spending the summer traveling around Europe with her best friend Leela. They have everything planned out but their plans detour a little as they meet Leela’s ex and his friend and all goes haywire. The places they see and the things they do are all described in this book.Characters: The book is told by Sydney’s POV. I love Leela though she’s a bit disregardful of Sydney sometimes. Sydney is a total sucker for planning and travelling and she plans everything for the two of them. They go on and meet a few Australians whom they befriend and they too seem like fun people. All in all the characters in this book were perfectly described and I had a lot of fun travelling with them. (Uh-huh yes it felt just as if I was travelling with them which made the book all the more fun to read.)Feelings: I felt the need to travel to Europe! It is so beautifully described and anyway Paris has always been my dream destination so I’m definitely going there one day!Recommendation: YES EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS BOOK! Not only the travelers, but even non-travelers are going to enjoy this book. It is so awesome and I loved everything about it.Favourite Quote:“I’m seriously, no joke, actually doing this. I am traveling around Europe with mybest friend for four and a half weeks. Holy crap.” I only chose this quote because I really, really want to say that about myself one day!Rating: 5/5 stars.

College-age Leela was hoping to spend the summer in Europe with her boyfriend, but plans change when her boyfriend cheats on her. Leela then asks Sydney, her best friend, to go and before they know it, they have planned an incredible summer. They are going to Europe for over a month and visiting all the places they have dreamt about. But things don't always go smoothly. For starters, Leela's ex-boyfriend is on their flight to London leaving them wondering why he is still going to Europe? Sydney can't help but feel a spark for Leela's ex-boyfriend's friend, which obviously makes things complicated. Sarah Mlynowski's I See London, I See France is armchair traveling at its best. Mlynowski gets that traveling with someone, even if it's with your best friend, can be a challenge at times, but in the end traveling is an experience that won't easily be forgotten.Read the rest of my review here: http://www.confessionsofabookaddict.c...

ARC from EdelweissI See London, I See France was a story about a young woman who is finally breaking from her family to go on a European trip with her best friend from high school. While this was a light read in some parts, the book also dealt with some serious issues like Sydney’s mother’s agoraphobia, finding yourself as a teen, and two worlds colliding when Sydney’s best friend from college meets up with Sydney’s best friend from high school.First and foremost this book was so much fun. Sydney and Leela cracked me up; they were silly and constantly doing off the wall things. (YOU GUYS…the topless beach scene was hilarious!) I wish I could have been so fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants at that age! The story opens with Sydney and Leela racing to make their flight, and much to their surprise, Leela’s ex-boyfriend (who she was originally going to trek through Europe with,) was also on the flight. As you can imagine, that leads to some explosive moments on the trip. But as Leela and her ex-boyfriend, Matt, hash things out, Sydney can’t help but be drawn to Matt’s friend, Jackson. (Who Leela is not a fan of.) I loved the time Sydney and Jackson spent getting to know each other and the lengths they went to to meet without their friends being in the know. I thought it was interesting how easy it was for Sydney to be herself with Jackson; there were no expectations between them, and she didn’t feel like she had to shield him from parts of herself she wasn’t so keen on.Again, this story dealt with some heavy things, and one of them was Sydney worrying that the panic attacks she’d begun having were turning her into her mother. This storyline flowed well, and I think it was approached in a realistic manner. As having been the one taking care of her mother for all of these years, of course she’d wonder if her own situation would escalate. I also liked how when they made it to Paris, Sydney’s college world collided with her high school world when her best friends from the different periods of her life meet. It’s interesting how the people in our lives bring out different facets of ourselves, and Sydney wasn’t quite as ready as she thought she was to merge her two worlds. Seeing her navigate her friend’s personalities (and who she was around them,) was so realistic and reminded me of that time in my own life. The one buzzkill in this book was Leela, but I won’t lower my rating for that, because it’s clear she was meant to be. Leela could be very dramatic, and Sydney, used to catering to the people around her, was much more tolerant of that than I would have been. But when Sydney did finally put her foot down, Leela (in her dramatic fashion,) needed time for it to sink in, but she came around. Not only did Sydney and Leela get to have tons of unique experiences, but they made a lot of new friends in Europe, and it was so much fun to read about. I loved the cast of secondary characters in this story. I think it’s obvious how much I loved I See London, I See France. This book is about having fun and finding yourself, and I think it’s the perfect read for summer! That ending, though… Man. Not a cliffhanger, but definitely not something I saw coming and I should have. It’s the perfect setup for the next book in the series, and it’s safe to say I’ll be reading it!This review was originally posted on Books & Beauty Are My Bag.

Many, many years ago, when I still went to high school, I read the Witch in Manhattan series. I found them hilarious, relatable and downright perfect. Now I am twenty-two, am I a college student, and do I like to sleep a lot. Because school is just Which is okay. But then I found about the same author of the Witch in Manhattan series wrote a standalone novels, for young adults, which characters of 19 years and older. Count me in, please.➵ PLOTSydney and Leela have been planning their trip to Europa ever since they were children. But when Leela wants to make their plans concrete, Sydney doesn’t want to go. She’s afraid to leave her mother (who has an anxiety disorder) behind. So Leela decides to go with her boyfriend. Or, well, ex-boyfriend. Matt The Dick cheated on Leela and so Sydney decides to go to Europa after all. But, when they are on the plane to London, they find out Matt is also there. With a friend of his, Jackson. ‘I already had the ticket,’ or so he says. From that moment on the friends know this trip will not go the way the expected it to go. ➵ CHARACTERSSydney is probably one of my all time favourites characters. She’s funny, sarcastic, but also helpful and caring. She will always be there for her, likes she’s always there for her mother, who is afraid to leave the house because of her phobia. Sydney’s narration was perfection. She made all these little comments, that made me snort, and she was so excited about everything.Leela is an amazing friend, but one who does not want (or is afraid) to be independent. The only thing she seemed to do was complain, complain, take her frustrations out on Sydney, and complain. Her repetitive behaviour became exhausting rather quick, especially when she would not stop dissing Jackson, whom Sydney is interested in. And the complaining about Matt. My goodness. And then she expected Sydney to just throw their plans away to travel alongside Matt The Dick and Jackson. Like… wait what? But I could still recognize myself in both friends. I’m a ‘leader’ like Sydney, but I also tend to be a bit jealous and whiny like Leela, especially when I’m tired and frustrated. Some may say the characters are too juvenile, but I do not agree.➵ PROS/CONSI See London, I See France is a great book, but I just can’t give it five stars.Pros+ The book is an incredibly fast read. Before I knew it I was already a hundred pages in, which is great as I’ve been in a reading slump for, like, FOREVER.+ This book is not afraid to mention certain topics, such as sex and anxiety disorders. I’m asexual so I don’t understand what so amazing about sex, but it was still rather nice to read a book talking about sex WITHOUT using synonyms like ‘and then we made magic’. You know what I’m talking about.+ The humour. It was fantastic to read a story with so much humour. It was great so read some light hearted novels without dark and touchy subjects.Cons- The same humour (as I mentioned above) also made the story a little less… serious. I never truly noticed when Sydney was upset, until she mention it to her friends.-Sometimes Leela annoyed the hell out of me. It was always about her problems, her love troubles, her complaining and her support. Even though I understand Sydney wanted to give Leela the best summer she’s ever had, I still wished she would have mentioned Leela her behaviour. -The translations. It’s obvious they used Google Translate in order to translate sentences to the Dutch language. Example: ’Kan ik een vrijwilliger?’ Translated to English it’s Can I a volunteer? A volunteer what?➵ CONCLUSIONI See London, I See France is a cute and delightful summer read. It felt like the writer has been to London and Paris and Amsterdam herself. She names places and often likes to give detailed descriptions of hotels, bars and even certain streets. This novel is also suitable for those who are looking for books about friendships. Sydney and Leela really got to know each other, as they had a lot of ups and downs to deal with. They were also pretty relatable.I give this book 3.5 stars. Or 4 stars, seeing as Goodreads doesn’t understand the half star system.Rating: ★★★★Blog (Dutch) | Tumblr | Pinterest | Facebook | Twitter

When Sydney's childhood best friend Leela breaks up with her boyfriend, Matt, Leela is in desperate need of consoling--she's also in dire need of a travel companion for the four-and-half week trip to Europe she had planned with Matt. Leela and Sydney have dreamed of this trip since they were kids, but Sydney has a lot going on at home, mainly her anxiety-ridden mom, whose agoraphobia prevents her from leaving the house without having major panic attacks. Sydney has been taking care of her--and her younger sister Addison--for as long as she can remember. She even lived at home for her first year of college. But this is her and Leela's dream trip; surely her Mom and Addison will be OK for a few weeks, right? But once Leela and Sydney are on the plane to London, they realize Matt is as well, sending Leela into a fit of anger and depression. This isn't what Sydney bargained for... This was a charming and surprisingly enjoyable YA novel. I'm so glad I finally received a copy through Paperbackswap.com. I was worried this book would stress me out too much, as I myself am a totally anxious traveler, but I really warmed to Sydney and her various travels and wasn't even that concerned as her bank account dipped and she and Leela flitted throughout Europe without too much planning. (I'm such a Mom.)Seriously, I really enjoyed Sydney, even though I wanted her to stand up for herself, as Leela wasn't the best friend for her at all times. Leela, although she might have been supportive about Sydney's family situation, was incredibly irritating! So much blathering about Matt, making Sydney plan the whole trip, and just being generally inconsiderate. Ugh! Still, you'll find yourself just loving Sydney--she's so fun, sweet, and just awesome. I love how she's a great, realistic character: she has real-world problems, but she's also entertaining. It was great to see her spread her wings on the trip. Big portions of the book just made me smile--it was a great little break. The supporting cast is really amusing and enjoyable. The entire novel is just easy-to-read, and I was very into the characters. It wraps up a little easily/quickly, but I was still happy with the ending. Supposedly the next book (this is a series, Goodreads tells me) features complementary characters from this novel and isn't coming out until 2020--is that right? I hope not! Anyway, if you're looking for a quick, easy, and pleasant YA read, definitely pick this one up. It's a great story of friendship, with some delightful romance mixed in. Really enjoyed it.
