In Aunt Giraffe’s Green Garden and The Frogs Wore Red Suspenders is an audio form on a book of poems written and performed by Jack Prelutsky. No awards were issued. This audio book is intended to be heard by intermediate and advanced age groups. I rated this audio version as a four. In Aunt Giraffe’s Green Garden and The Frogs Wore Red Suspenders is a selection of whimsical poems about animals and the many places that they travel. The humorous poems are performed by the author in an upbeat and friendly manner. Some poems are sung in order to provide a variety on the audio version. Prelutsky uses his voice in different ways to express emotion and insight to the poem’s message. Without the use of illustrations, Prelutsky’s voiceover provides enough for a child’s imagination to create the poem’s image in their mind. The rhythm and rhyming poem contents are interesting. Many of the poems mention major cities, such as Minneapolis, Baltimore, and the Grand Canyon. The use of real major cities bridges the fantasy side with reality components. The CD cover design shows a giraffe smelling a bright red poppy flower. There are butterflies flying around the giraffe. A caterpillar and two bees are present within the bed of poppy flowers. The image is painted in great detail. In Aunt Giraffe’s Green Garden CD contains 28 poems and runs for 56:03 minutes. The Frogs Wore Red Suspenders contains 28 poems and runs for 47:12 minutes. Overall, In Aunt Giraffe’s Green Garden and The Frogs Wore Red Suspenders is an excellent choice to hear in an audio version. When reading a book, we use our sight sense to obtain the information. However, an audio version allows the reader to close their eyes and use their hearing sense. Reading these two books will bring a much different approach than using your hearing sense. I thoroughly enjoyed these CD’s as I had to use my listening skills to completely understand the material. I listened to these poems at work. The poems relaxed me during the day as I wanted to continue listening to them over and over again. An English teacher should recommend these CD’s to their students to understand poetry by hearing and not by sight.
