Leave it to Meg Cabot to take something as dark, brooding and oh-so-serious as vampires and turn it into something fun, funny and frivolous! Just when you think you can't take another vampire book, she throws something a little different into the mix. (Although for the record, I am still riding the vampire wave and loving it.)This is just such a different vampire story than anything I've read. There is so many references to popular 'vampire culture,' even my girl Sookie gets a shout out. Cabot is poking fun at the 'vampire phenomenon' and yet she draws you into this vampire story! Sneaky, sneaky! If you've read an liked any of Meg's other adult novels you will definitely be a fan of this one. It was a little slow to start, but soon after you won't be able to turn the pages fast enough. There is a light romance among the comical aspects.... signature Meg Cabot. I'd even go as far to say that this novel would appeal to older teens that are fans of Cabot's other books. The characters where a lot of fun as well. And it was great to get to see the story from their eyes, through the alternating chapters. I don't think I could even pick a favorite! Even the secondary characters like Meena's crazy neighbor left a lasting impression. It's summer time, if you're looking for something easy to read and entertaining, this would be the perfect beach read. I'm eagerly awaiting the sequel!

This may be my favorite Meg Cabot novel to date. And that's saying a lot.The novel follows Meena Harper, a dialogue writer on a major soap opera called Insatiable. She desperately wants to be promoted to head writer, but loses the promotion. She shares an apartment in a nice old coop building with her unemployed brother. And she can tell you when and how you're going to die. This last thing is a real problem in her life. She doesn't like to ride the subway, as there are simply too many people that she feels compelled to warn about their future demises. And, as the novel opens, she meets a young immigrant that's going to die within a week. Meena's action here will come to direct many of the events that follow. The other complication in Meena's life? She's finally found an interesting man, one that she values as highly as she does her job. And he's a vampire. This book is a departure for Meg Cabot. It has many of her familiar traits--the heroine with a layabout brother, close friends with complications of their own, and a snarky attitude. However, it feels like many of her romances were training for this book. While it does deal with vampires, it's also the most original vampire novel I've read in some time. It deals with consent in a far deeper fashion than most of the vampire novels I've read. In Cabot's book, a human must be bitten three times by a vampire and drink that vampire's blood in order to be turned. Meena can't stand vampires, even after she learns that her boyfriend is one. But others don't share her feelings, and Cabot explores the many reasons they'd be willing to allow those bites.Far from jumping on the vampire bandwagon, Cabot has done her best to not only write a steamy romance but also deconstruct the reasons why so many people are drawn to vampires. I recommend this book highly.

Unexpected delight!I mean... It was so close to being bad that it was comical. But then, it was meant to be this way, wasn't it? Meena, a dialogue writer for a soap opera called Insatiable, is an ordinary girl with not so ordinary gift. She can predict how people she meets will die. Not a very useful gift, but there you have it. Other than that her life is pretty normal, with normal problems. Like an unemployed brother, who has a crush on one of the stars of Meena's show. Or a bitchy co-worker, who takes credit without doing any work. Or a nosy neighbor, trying out her matchmaking skills on Meena. And to top it all off, the rival show is killing their ratings with a vampire storyline. Ugh, vampires! The misogynists of supernatural world. Now bosses want a vampire story for Insatiable too and suddenly - there's vampires everywhere. And that hot European guy who saved Meena and her dog from killer bats attacking them, yup, he's a vampire too. Not just any vampire either, but a freaking prince of darkness himself. The anointer of all things evil. But, like, with a conscience and a moral code and stuff.Enter the vampire hunter and his Vatican sponsored band of merry nuns and priests. I kid you not. They were the goofiest monster hunters since Scooby gang.Suddenly, everyone wants a piece of poor Meena. Some of them literally. Because I guess knowing how people die is a cool trick and it could be attained with Meena's blood. Can't they all just let her have a happy ever after with her vampire boyfriend? Jeez!Oh lord! Meg Cabot for sure knows how to make a satirical event out of a book. I certainly enjoyed it.Over and out

Having read a lot of Meg Cabot books I find them abit hit and miss, but I thought I would give this series a shot and the first book was not a disappointment too me. I have read previous books along these lines before and you think oh it is going to be a typical vampire novel....but it actually wasn't.I will admit I did judge it before reading it thinking it was going to be another book copying Twilight. This book however had more unexpected turns and twists than I was expecting. I will definitely be buying the next one in the series

WOW. I have to admit I didn't recognize the author's name at first when I received this book. Meg is well know for her series, the princess diaries, and not my usual read.Just the name alone is enough to intrigue one to look beyond the beautifully designed cover, but once you do; you'll be glad you did. Vampires. Doesn't it seem we have enough books for them, with them and about them? I may have thought so, scared that I might find the same old conflict of good and evil; not expecting to find the absolutely unexpected.Meg brings us laughter. Her seemless writing and delightfully seductive storyline entices the reader to gallop through the pages with unabashed and unbridled abandon.Enter our heroine, Meena Harper; writer for a daytime soap opera and the woman who knows how you will eventually meet your demise. Not exactly a good skill to have and certainly a damper on her dating life. She's always had a hard time seeing a future with any of the men in her life, until him. The night she meets Lucien Antonescu everything changes when she sees nothing at all, which only makes her want to see him more and more. This educated, handsome and refined man seems to be perfect, too perfect. What might seem to be her dream man, might just turn out to be her biggest nightmare.I thoroughly enjoyed this book and all of it's exciting twists and turns. The soap opera spin on things was fresh and funny. It made me rememeber soaps like ALL MY CHILDREN and GENERAL HOSPITAL, leading ladies like Susan Lucci, and scenes both bold and ridiculous all at the same time.Don't get me wrong, this was not a slapstick comedy. It was sultry and steamy when need be and a breath of fresh air. The concept and writing was original and ultimately left me wanting for more.A must read.

As a huge fan of the Young Adult Mediator Series by Meg Cabot; I was estactic to discover Cabot’s attempt at a Adult Novel. Insatiable is a modern sequel to Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Unfortunately, from the start this is was a very trying novel. With the first four chapters each being told from another characters point of view I found it very difficult to follow with the storyline, and accurately keep the characters straight. By chapter twelve things had begun to fall into place; leaving the story a little easier to follow. This is where I believe many will find the storyline with suck you in before you even know it. At this point, I really began enjoying the storyline, but various chapters were still told from alternating characters, and I found moments that this was very tiresome. Once the story begins building and rolling along all of the this seems to fade and I was unable to put this book down.Characters in this novel were very much hit and miss. The main characters that chapters alternate between include Lucien (The delectable Prince of Darkness), Meena (the lovely girl with a special gift), and Alaric (Palatine Assasssin). While Meena is the main character that the story surrounds and the most entertaining; Cabot still has the alternating chapters where you discover the depth to which this story was written. There are many more characters throughout the story that are key players, but the story does not follow them directly. This is where I found the story to be a bit overwhelming. After a slow start, I was surprised to find the story pick up and grab my attention so drastically. Although, after completing I found myself distraught with the ending. This ending was not at all what I had hoped for. It is like Whitney Houston in The Body Guard. When you are yelling at the television for her turn around and run back to Kevin Cosner. I can not believe this story was not the picture perfect happy ending. After a life of struggling for Meena, yes, she might find herself a job where she can help others and never had to join the undead. Though, this was all at the cost of her lover and soul mate. I can’t say this was a bad ending just not anticipated, and it will be a ending that holds your thoughts long after the last page. As always, for my note on the cover I love this one; mystery and all. This is a very beautiful cover alone, but to break it apart it is like a hide and seek picture. The tattoo on the Model’s upper arm has to be my favorite, but the stake was also not lost on me. I also had to appreciate the dress; I would have to guess this would be the dress that had been borrowed from Mary Lou for the night out with Lucien that was unable to happen. In wrapping up I can’t wait for a sequel that is tentatively scheduled for Summer of 2011. Although, this story was left at a point that it could be a solo book, and that leaves me with a heart wrenching ending that will never end, so here is to hoping that I am blessed with a sequel that will change and heart wrenching ending. Meg Cabot is such a wonderful author, and I always look forward to another book. Seeing as though paranormal books are by far my favorite this is not a luxury that I find very often with this author, but she always creates stories that are not easily forgotten.

I loved this book so much!!! It was one of those book that you finish reading and your just happy that you didn't discover it early so you can jump into the next book! I loved every bit of it, the characters, and how well Meg brought them to life as well. I highly recommends it to everyone who wants to escape into a world of mysterious strangers, and guys who just don't give a sh*t what comes out of their mouth! Hahha, I'm sure you know who I'm talking about!

I rather enjoyed Cabot's tongue in cheek take on vampire romance. Soap opera writer Meena Harper gets tasked with writing a vampire storyline into the soap for which she is a writer. She is not a fan of the idea, but orders are orders.Suddenly, vampires and vampire references are everywhere in Meena's life. And, as it turns out, New York seems to be the chosen location for the next vampire showdown. Of course Meena gets sucked into the action. Since Meena has her own supernatural power (being able to foretell how someone will die), the paranormal gets woven into this book from several different angles.I liked this book because while the vampire story is interesting, there is also plenty of satire woven into it. I was in the right mood for action with a healthy sense of humor, and this book definitely delivered. The love triangle between Meena, the mysterious Romanian professor, and the Vatican's vampire hunter left me a little cold, but I still enjoyed myself as I read this novel.

I was kind of on the hunt for vampires this month. Seemed fitting. And I loved the other assorted Meg Cabot books I've read over the last few months, so I decided to give this series a try, not knowing there were only two books completed and there may never be a third. 😭 Which is really devastating because I really enjoyed these books. Cabot's trademark humor and feisty heroine meet their match in a seductive vampire and a sultry vampire-hunter in this series full of forbidden love. The second book felt a little contrived, a little hasty, and is maybe why there's no official third book planned? But I still enjoyed it. Perfect for this time of year.

This book is the "Scream" of paranormal fiction! Remember how that movie kinda poked fun at the horror genre at the same time it was itself a horror flick? Meg Cabot has done that with Insatiable! She pokes a bit of fun at the whole popular vampire fiction craze (oh yes, there are references to sparkly vamps and Sookie Stackhouse) at the same she is pulling off telling an awesome bit of vampire fiction herself. Loved it!This was such a fun and clever read and what I loved MOST was that Cabot totally respected Stoker. You know, that guy who wrote Dracula, the forefather of all our modern vampire stories?? It seems so many modern authors writing vampire fiction have never even read Dracula. And while I think it's perfectly acceptable for authors to create their own versions of vampires, I absolutely loved the fact that this book drew from the original Dracula.First of all, we have the characters names...Meena Harper and her brother Jon Harper. If you're read Stoker, you'll remember the characters Mina and Jonathan Harker. Mina is generally considered a pretty submissive female protag (and Meena starts off that way, but more on that later.) In Stoker's Dracula, Mina possesses telepathic abilities and Cabot's Meena has abilities of her own...she can tell how someone will die just by looking at them. Insatiable also introduces us to vampire hunter Alaric Wulf, and his boss Abraham Holtzman. Of course Stoker's famed vampire hunter was Abraham Van Helsing...see how brilliant this all is???Cabot wrote Insatiable as if Stoker's Dracula was the true history of vampirism and even weaves references to Stoker himself into the story. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed reading a vampire book that actually FELT like a vampire book. The vamps could be scary and that's exactly how vamps should be as far as I'm concerned.Insatiable is able to stand on its own as an incredibly entertaining book. So much here is clever and original and this book really has a little of everything to offer: Humor (Jon Harper, Meena's brother, was hilarious...he is unemployed and when Alaric the vampire hunter shows up, Jon asks if they are hiring =)There is, of course, romance...not to mention a very exciting finale that had elements that took me completely by surprise.I must confess to getting a little discouraged in the middle of this one despite all it has going for it and I'll tell you why. Meena goes on ONE date with Lucien the vamp, falls into bed with him and BAM! the next day she is convinced she is in love with him. And THEN, actually says to him that very afternoon..."I thought I knew you." Seriously?? SERIOUSLY?? I HAVE to go on record and say I am SO tired of books that do these two things...1. Heroine immediately ends up in bed with the book's love interest. This is usually explained away by saying it's been oh so very long since she has been with a man, we simply can't blame her for being so slutty. Or we are led to believe it's supernatural forces bringing them together. Geez you vampire loving heroines, keep your legs closed for at least a couple of dates!!!2. After a couple of hours of conversation and a couple hours of sex, our heroines ARE IN LOVE. Again, SERIOUSLY? C'mon authors...make me believe the main characters actually have a REASON to fall in love with each other.Ok, mini rant over. And while yes, Insatiable did these things, I have to say Cabot made up for it and Meena totally and completely redeemed herself in a major way. MAJOR! I actually ended up loving the book even more for how this all played out.Bottom line: One of the best paranormals I've read...the kind of book that makes you wish you had come up with the idea..SO very clever, intelligent and original...just an all around awesome summer read!

Meg Cabot's written a book about vampires. And, if you're anything like me, you're thinking, "Another book about vampires? Really? Gimmie a break."Yes, more vampires. But Cabot puts her own spin on it--her main character, Meena Harper, hates vampires and all the hype that surrounds them, although she doesn't believe in them despite her extensive experience with the supernatural (She can see when people are going to die. Fun, right? Not when you're known as "You're Gonna Die Girl" all through high school.).Meena's life is just not going well: her out-of-work brother's moved in with her, her promotion was given to the bosses' niece, her love life is non-existent, and she's been ordered to write a vampire character into the soap opera she works for. Then she meets and falls for Lucien Antonescu, a prince with a lust for...life. Yep, he's a vampire, though Meena doesn't know it at first (though she does wonder why she can't see how he dies--understandable considering he's already dead). She learns this little factoid from Alaric, a hot vampire hunter (yep, a love triangle) who's got a personal vendetta against the undead and permission from the Pope to kill them all. Meena's a great character, typical of Cabot. She's feisty, intelligent, and able to hold her own. She gets mighty ticked off when the guys try to step in and take over or boss her around. Her brother plays the role of the annoying doofus, always wrecking Meena's plans. Lucien and Alaric play the roles of tough men determined to protect Meena from each other and from the evil Dominic, Lucien's brother and all-around bad boy. While I liked all the characters (even the annoying brother), I wasn't not sure what to make of Lucien. He didn't seem fully fleshed out or maybe it was that he was just wishy-washy. He didn't want to hurt people but he sucked Meena's blood without her permission (Three bites and some of his blood and she'd be a vamp, too. He only got in two bites.). He claimed to love her but manipulated her and her emotions as if he were playing chess. There seemed to be more layers to him but Cabot didn't reveal them to us (I'm thinking there's a follow-up in the works).Despite that, INSATIABLE is a fun read. I enjoyed Meena's reactions and interactions with the two men, how she wouldn't take crap from any of them, how she protected her friends and family even though she didn't really know what was going on. The writing was light and fast-paced, injected with Cabot's style of humor. While I was a little disappointed in the ending (I'm not going to ruin it and tell you why. But it's part of the reason why I think there are more Meena books in the works.), I didn't want to throw the book across the room (Trust me, this is a good thing. I've done it with a couple of books this year. What is it with the crappy endings of awesome books lately? Okay. Done. That's a rant for another time.) It's not a YA, either. There's some sex and some language. Not horrible or overly-detailed so I'd give it a PG-15 rating.Final Grade for INSATIABLE by Meg Cabot: 90/BPurchased

Meg Cabot (known for her many young adult novels- most of all The Princess Diaries) writes an adult oriented fictional book that teens can enjoy as well entitled Insatiable. But she doesn't stop there, Insatiable joins the ranks of other popular fiction by the subject manner being about vampires. I had an initial mixture of feelings about the subject manner. Another vampire story? Really? Let me guess, a mortal girl meets a brooding vampire boy. They fall in love and risk everything to be together. Mortal girl's entire life will be focused on vampire boy and she'll more or less drop her loved ones.Well, Insatiable does revolve around a mortal girl who meets a male vampire. But Meena comes across as a strong woman who, once having figured out what it is she needs in her life and what is right, she goes for it. She's passionate and caring and she doesn't forget her loved ones. In fact, she fights for them all along. She has a life, separate from her love life, and that is always prominent. Work is stressful and she adores her dog- she seems like a real person.Lucien, the featured vampire, isn't your typical brooding vampire either. In fact, he is professional (or as professional as one of his kind can be). He enjoys good wine and teaching at a university. His life is occasionally broken up by working out some problems in his world. He has incredible history to him, all of which is explained and understandable, and there is so much more depth to him then most other vampire characters in novels today.I found myself snickering as I read this book over the different references to todays culture. Mentions of Sookie Stackhouse and hints of a certain movie that features some guy whose a vampire and women fawn over him- I wonder what that movie could be? Cabot manages to joke about all of the vampire books and movies that are so popular these days and yet, pulls the reader into the story itself. It's something to appreciate. What's even more exciting is the history Meg Cabot threw in about Transylvania and 'Dracula'. She created an entire story and history of this family which ties in nicely to Insatiable and in fact ties the entire plot of this story together. What I loved most about this novel, what makes me say this stands apart from all of the other vampire novels that are out today, is Meena's ultimate life decision in the end. Will I say what it is? Of course not, you should find it out for yourself. But this characters decision made me adore her even more. With summer approaching, this is a great beach read. On the hot days where you're lazy from the heat this novel will be perfect to pick up and read. It's enjoyable, at times romantic, and there is quick paced action to entertain. I truly enjoyed this book!Read more book reviews on http://soonrememberedtales.blogspot.com/
