It’s Hot in the Hamptons Audiobook Summary

From the author of the summer hit It Happens in The Hamptons comes an unforgettable new novel about the women who live and love in the Hamptons.

In the Hamptons, no rules apply, especially in matters of money–and the heart…

Raised in East Hampton, Caroline never thought she’d be one of the “city people” who spent summers and weekends at the beach. But, once her husband’s business takes off, a job stint transplants the couple permanently into Manhattan life–where the phrase When you marry for money, you work for it every day, reflects her neighbors’ lives. And where entitled husbands, like hers, embark on affair after affair with little consequence.

Time for the wives to get even.

When Caroline’s friend Annabelle suggests they experiment as their wayward mates have, Caroline resists at first. That is, until a scroll through an iPad makes her reconsider…and a pact between two friends is made.

The agreement quickly turns serious when Caroline begins to confront the man her husband has become, or perhaps always has been. Will a summer affair give Caroline clarity or make her lose hold on the reins of her life? And, when an old lover returns, is she ready to risk all for a chance at happiness…

As a girl who is born and raised in the Hamptons I always look forward to a book such as It's Hot in the Hamptons. I have read many other reviews and I can say I agree with most of them. This book is definitely a beach read but it does start off slow. I can also agree that we didn't need to read so much about horses. Being from the Hamptons I know many of the wealthy come here and love horses and races, etc. But it really didn't need to cover most of the book. I can also agree with another person who said that this book has way to many characters. With that being said I LOVE Caroline. She was probably my favorite on in this entire book as her best friend annoyed me throughout the book. And well as for Caroline's husband Eddie he is an entitled prick and what really annoyed me about him is he was born and raised in East Hampton. SO I don't really like that he came as a local kid to this stuck up snob. I do hate to admit a part of me also liked his character when he was being a loving husband (ugh I wish I didn't admit that). But I understand we had to give him the 'city' to the Hamptons persona. I also wish that majority of the book could have sped to the ending but then the ending slowed down so we could get more of it. It kind of brought us to the plot and then just rushed us to the end. I felt myself skimming through the middle of it trying to rush to the end only to find it abruptly stopped. With no fair warning (especially when it was getting juicy).Overall, I did rate this a 3 star but bumped it to 4 stars because it is a fun easy read (if you put patience into it) and as a local it was fun reading familiar restaurants, beaches and street names (always fun to put an actual picture to what your are reading). The rest of the 'Hamptons' mess I could do without as I live with it on a daily basis, LOL but it had to be put into the book to make the plot. I will still recommend this if you are willing to give it a try and I promise the ending is cute!

The Hamptons have long been the irresistible setting for excess, fun, sun and celebrity. But Peterson takes excess and debauchery to a new level with her latest novel. When Caroline, a local East Hampton girl, marries into New York City wealth, she joins the competitive, climber summer circles in the Hamptons. Her friend Annabelle has a racy proposal that they both get even with their husbands by having an affair and its then that the hot gets hotter. Forced to confront the man her husband has become, and to determine just how far she will go for revenge, Caroline’s summer is about to get—you guessed it—even hotter. Tuck this baby in your beach bag and make sure you’ve got a fan.

The premise of this book was a little strange and I felt, especially towards the end, that too much was thrown in to the plot. However, overall the book was entertaining and an enjoyable read.

It’s a hopefully fun work of social satire about life about two wives who are also good moms and good wives but whose husbands are cheating. They decide to go on a summer adventure in the Hamptons and have an affair. The Hamptons was a great backdrop to the sexy story because it's such a fantastic place. It’s a paradise with produce, shellfish, people, and beaches. It’s also a complicated place with a local community and summer visitors who invade the area creating a clashing of classes. This book is hot and fun and sexy with all kinds of juicy stuff happening where we get a look at current issues around inequality, class, and differences between people. There were many different themes in this book, one being infidelity which already makes the book interesting because it explores women’s sexuality. There's some parody in that women are in charge of their sexual decisions at an age when people assume they can't be or don't want them to be.
