Kiss Me, Annabel Audiobook Summary

The rules of marriage . . . according to Miss Annabel Essex

A husband must be:

Rich.

Make that very rich. She’s had enough of leaky roofs and thread-worn clothing.

English.

London is the center of the civilized world, and Annabel has a passion for silk and hot water.

Amiable.

Good-looking would be nice, but not necessary. Same for intelligent.

Isn’t she lucky? She’s found just the man! And her chosen spouse is nothing like the impoverished Scottish Earl of Ardmore, who has nothing but his gorgeous eyes, his brain–and his kisses–to recommend him.

So what cruel twist of fate put her in a carriage on her way to Scotland with just that impoverished earl and all the world thinking they’re man and wife? Sleeping in the same bed? Not to mention the game of words started by the earl–in which the prize is a kiss. And the forfeit . . .

Well. They are almost married, after all!

I enjoyed Annabel and Ewan's book more than the first book. I liked that Annabel had flaws but was very likable and relatable. Ewan was sexy and Scottish. I thought it was sweet how they fell in love and I really enjoyed Ewan's family. I loved that they had this cute kissing game and that they were so honest with each other from the start. I still hate Imogen in this book but I do hate her a little less. I still wonder how Eloisa James is going to redeem Imogen.

I was really close to giving this 5 stars but things took turn into weird territory in a last third of the book. It was as if a beautifully crafted bowl broke and we were left with not very nicely patched up version of it. I loved Annabel and I loved Ewan, specially since he was a devout catholic. I think there is something beautiful about the man who cares about spiritual wellness. But towards the end I realized his spirituality was not meant in serious manner. There is so much kissing in the book which was cute and beautiful and natural. It was lovely that they decided to get to know one another before sleeping with each other. Imogen and Josie are huge part of this story so I am very glad I’m reading this series in order

I just love Eloisa James! She's the smartest romance writer around (her day job is as professor of Shakespeare at Fordham), and her books are filled with delicious research and delightful characters. Addictive for historical romance fans!

due to their family’s lack of wealth, annabel became practical. instead of marrying for love, she’s willing to marry a rich husband. but soon, she was attracted by a fellow scotsman, who’s only in london to find a rich wife, or that’s what the rumor is.actually, i found that annabel and ewan’s romance developed quite quickly. it started from their mutual physical attraction to something more as they got to know one another. annabel never thought she would be back to an impoverished life but they were getting along really well. i liked their dynamic i still don't really like imogen. she’s trying to stir shit and landing herself in scandalous situations with a thought for others.

I loved Annabel. She knew exactly what she wanted and when she thought all of her dreams would end in disaster, she took it like a champ. Of course, her HEA didn’t end as badly as she thought 😉 I really liked the Earl, also. When they ended up staying a couple nights in a one horse town, I thought it was actually quite funny. So far, this one is my favorite.

So much to love in this 2nd book in the Essex Sisters series... A hunky Highland Scott Lord as the Hero (Ewan) and a beautiful, determined-never-to-be-poor-again-as-God-as-my-witness Heroine (Annabel). Lots of kissing - long, slow, seductive kisses that take your breath away. (OK, so it was Annabele's breath that was taken away, but still!) And hey, even some faith thrown in - not the 'holier than thou' or stuffy faith, but faith that rings true and is part of the Hero, not just something he pretends to understand and spout!!!While it would be easy to classify Annabel as a greedy, selfish B****, she's not. This book really helped us to understand more about how and why Annabel developed such a business-minded idea of marriage. We saw how badly her father treated her, because she was the one to keep the books for his horse farm. She was the one who made sure that her sisters didn't starve, and that their home wasn't completely taken away from them. It was up to Annabel to stand up to their father and keep the creditors at bay. And oh, how her father hated her for that.It might seem trite for a Heroine to have "daddy issues", but Ms. James does it well -- she doesn't overplay it, but she helps us to see another side to Annabel -- an insecurity that, despite her beauty, no man will ever truly love her, because her father didn't. And all of the things that Annabel did to make men desire her... it's not until much later that Annabel realizes that desire and want are not the same as love, not even for a man. So all that Annabel has put her heart-and-soul into to "get" a man now feels so empty to her, when she realizes how much more there is to relationships, to love, to marriage. I truly felt for her! And I did understand how difficult it would be for her to accept that Ewan does love her. Just like a man (and a Scott!) to not be able to clearly say that to her! Because yes, for many men (including the oh-so-honorable-good-and-dreamy Jamie from the Outlander series), love and wanting/desire often feel the same, especially at the beginning of a love relationship.Ewan might be almost-too-good-to-be-true. Is he really an impoverished Lord looking for a woman with a large dowry? And why is he so determined to get Annabel? Something seems fishy... especially when he seems to readily turn from Annabel to Imogen at the slightest hint from Annabel. But we see that Ewan is more complex than we give him credit for, as the story goes along. And we realize that Ewan is far from perfect, as his lesson "playing peasant" designed to show Annabel how one can be very happy without material goods neatly turns against him, and shows him another side to himself.I was a bit miffed that Imogen had such a large role in this book, AGAIN! And a nasty Imogen at that. I'm tired of Imogen seemingly getting her way at every turn, including taking over Tess's and Annabel's stories. It seems quite unfair, especially since we all know that Imogen gets her own book. And it seems unfair that so many suffer because of Imogen. I'd like to see her get set down because of it, but somehow, I doubt that will happen.Josie is delightful, but I wonder if she'll become too missish or too much like Imogen? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Book 2 of the orphaned Essex sisters who only have a horse for a dowry, continues with the story of Annabel, the 2nd Scottish sister. Annabel is cover-girl gorgeous and brutally honest about her desire to wed a rich man. She has been the book-keeper for her father's home and stables since she was young. After so many years of penny pinching she desires wealth and has practiced the art of attracting men. Unfortunately her guardian Rafe, a duke is a bit overwhelmed with the sisters. Her sister Imogine widowed after only 2 weeks and bitter begins to flaunt the societal rules- which lead to her reputation quickly becoming sullied. As the sisters try to undo a wrong they must go to a hotel- where a robbery occurs and Annabel's reputation is ruined in a gossip mag the next day. Annabel met a Scottish farmer who had no money and befriended him. Ewan gets caught up in the scandal and he and Annabel must wed. Annabel is so likeable despite desiring money and Ewan is Charming. They desire each other and travel for 2 weeks to Scotland with many temptations. He is not a fancy duke, but a real man who of course does have money and love. A fun romance novel

I was so shocked to love this book cause I thought the first book was amazing and there is no way this will be too. But people I'm happy to tell you I was wrong. I loved every moment of the first book and I loved this one main character story though I missed Tess and Lucius from the first book. Annabel and Ewan had this ... chemistry. They are made for each other and you'll believe it, feel it even. They are different from each other yet they fall... you know what they say opposite attract and all... Annable is my kind of heroine, strong and intelligent but with emotional scars. Ewan was always close but start open to her and only her which make him my kind of hero ;)The only thing I hated was Imogen, she's childish, selfish, annoying girl who needed a dash of reality and I wanted nothing more than hit her. she annoyed me at the first book but here she was something else all togather. I just hope that her book wont ruin Josie book for me. I'm sorry if thats cruel, but God she annoyed me.
