When a teacher announces, "There will be a sustitute teacher..," you never know what a day in class will bring. There are teachers who can be fun, strict, those who are a bit out of the ordinary. A boy named A.J. and his classmates are in for a treat, when they find out their teacher will be out for a week. The teacher, named Miss Porter, is a Personal Digital Assistant who is a computer!!! Having a computer for teacher was actually quite a blast, since Miss Porter knew everything, inculding how to deliver a pizza via drone! But what hapens when, "...the weirdest thing in the history of the world happened. But I'm not going to tell you what it is." You will have to read this story, to find out!This text has comedy, mixed with a bit of context that would work best for grades 1-5. I would recommend using this text to compare and contrast with the topic of subsitute teachers. This can also spark a writing piece for opinions on technology and how it influences society. In the text, it was humorous to have a bit of reality kick in when the principal explained to the students why they had a computer for a teacher. He said, "I'll tell you why I didn't have a regular human teacher...because human teachers have to be paid. We don't have money in the budget..."

I originally checked this book out for my daughter as per her “Book a Day” challenge. It is clearly too advanced for her (she’s not yet 2) but she enjoyed reading along by repeating some of the words and phrases (before falling asleep). Well after she was asleep, I was hooked on Miss Porter and had to see the story through! Great read!

Book-fair-crazy-amount-of reading week is here! I have known the Gutman series was popular, but we read it out loud today and all of my second grade workshop was completely engaged. Great job
