James Dean is the original creator and illustrator of Pete the Cat. He is a self-taught artist originally from Fort Payne, Alabama. His passion for drawing became apparent at a young age, and as a child, you could find James drawing his favorite characters like Snoopy and Yogi Bear.
James earned his degree in electrical engineering from Auburn University and went on to work for Georgia Power for a number of years. Eventually, he was called to pursue his art full-time and began selling his work at art festivals around the Southeast.
It was during this time that he began creating paintings and drawing of his cat, Pete. The little blue cat showed up as a character in James’s artwork around 1999 and has been a permanent fixture ever since.
James Dean’s art has been sold in more than ninety galleries and shops across the United States. He has devoted his paintings to Pete the Cat for fifteen years and turned his natural love for cats into his life’s work. James published his first book, The Misadventures of Pete the Cat, a history of his artwork, in 2006, and he illustrated his first self-published children’s book, Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes, in 2008. There are now almost 100 published Pete the Cat titles with more coming out all the time.
James is humbled every day by the success that this groovy blue cat has brought him. He says positively affecting children’s lives is his number one priority, and he is grateful to have such an amazing audience to work for.

As a reading response activity the students will make and decorate their own Easter eggs. For this activity the children will use paints. I will model different designs that they can put on their eggs to help them with ideas. Then I will encourage them to make patterns with the designs that they choose. I will have a large single oval egg for each student and when finished will display their creations on a bulletin board with a patch of grass scenery.

I enjoyed the book. First, Pete the cat waits for his Easter basket, but the basket is empty except a note. Easter bunny asked Pete to help. Pete pretends to be bunny and prepare the eggs. At the end, Pete is tired but he feels happy to help others.

Fun Easter Book! This is a fun story about how Pete the Cat helps the Easter Bunny find, decorate, and hide the eggs for all his friends. While the book does talk about Easter. It is not in the religious aspect but instead of helping others and the commercialization of Easter. Our household is a Pete the Cat fan so while it doesn’t touch on Christ or any religious side of things we still enjoy this book.If you have a Pete the Cat fan in your house this will be another hit for sure. If this is the first time experiencing Pete the Cat then don’t let that stop you from checking out others available.

Pete the Cat wakes up on Easter, eager to see what's in his basket. It's a note from the Easter Bunny, asking for help! Pete gathers eggs, colors them, and hides them for his friends. He's tired, but realizes that doing something nice for his friends was just as good as a basket full of jelly beans would have been. Super cute, with Pete hopping around town in a bunny costume. Kids will giggle and enjoy this one.

Just another great Pete the Cat story full of positivity! More fun illustrations from James Dean. And the book comes with a poster, some stickers and some little Easter cards. It's tough to beat Pete the Cat, especially when he teams up with the Easter Bunny. Keep rockin', Pete.
