James Dean is the original creator and illustrator of Pete the Cat. He is a self-taught artist originally from Fort Payne, Alabama. His passion for drawing became apparent at a young age, and as a child, you could find James drawing his favorite characters like Snoopy and Yogi Bear.
James earned his degree in electrical engineering from Auburn University and went on to work for Georgia Power for a number of years. Eventually, he was called to pursue his art full-time and began selling his work at art festivals around the Southeast.
It was during this time that he began creating paintings and drawing of his cat, Pete. The little blue cat showed up as a character in James’s artwork around 1999 and has been a permanent fixture ever since.
James Dean’s art has been sold in more than ninety galleries and shops across the United States. He has devoted his paintings to Pete the Cat for fifteen years and turned his natural love for cats into his life’s work. James published his first book, The Misadventures of Pete the Cat, a history of his artwork, in 2006, and he illustrated his first self-published children’s book, Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes, in 2008. There are now almost 100 published Pete the Cat titles with more coming out all the time.
James is humbled every day by the success that this groovy blue cat has brought him. He says positively affecting children’s lives is his number one priority, and he is grateful to have such an amazing audience to work for.

I have no complaints. I love me some Pete the Cat. It’s all good! My young little student laughed and couldn’t wait to flip the pages for this. We had a good time reading it today.

We picked this book up from the library has A loves Pete the Cat. We have read the books on EPIC and she loves listening to it read. So when we saw this book along with other Pete the Cat books she was excited. Also she is doing better at reading and Pete the Cat books are perfect for her. In this story we don't have a farmer but we do have Pete the Cat farmer. If your children like the song Old MacDonald Has a Farm this would be a great read for them.

These singalong books in the Pete the Cat series don't rock the boat too much with new twists. But that's the point. They are designed to introduce traditional children's songs.Old MacDonald Had a Farm has perhaps too many verses for some kids (and parents), but the 14 animal verses are a great way to get in a lot of practice labeling common farm and domestic animals and making animal sounds.---I review books for children from the perspective of a parent of kids with autism. The review above is part of a longer post on books about singalong books: https://www.lineupthebooks.com/40-sin...

Pete the Cat takes on the role of Old MacDonald and has many animals to tend. The story is set up the same as the original story/song, except it is quite long. The farm animals: chickens, dogs, cows, pigs, horses, cats, goats, ducks, turkeys, roosters, donkeys, sheep, frogs, geese. It is likely a version will help the youngest readers to learn animals.

It was a good book to read again. When I read the book I felt like a 2-4 year old boy. There were about 5 new animals but I remembered most of the animals. I would suguest reading this book to other little kids around the world.

It was a never ending song of E-I-E-O. There were cows, pigs, dogs, and cats. Many more animals. All the sounds of the animals in the book. Really nice pictures. In the first two pictures Pete has a guitar. Most pictures he is in a truck or a tracker.

Combo of a beloved character and a familiar song made this a fun one for storytime, and very easy to shorten to suit the group’s attention span, too.
