This book is awesome! It’s got two of my sons favorite things. Rhythm and dinosaurs. It’s got a good flow and encourages young readers to do it themselves. It’s also catchy enough they remember it and want to read it over and over again. I only wish there were more books like this in the series. I was able to find the early reader books for the rest of the series, they do have the same flow and could be easier for early school kids. This book is not only fun but shares a great message that not everyone has to be the same. Utilizing rapping as a sort of speech issue was a fun way to explore differences and not quite feeling like you fit in.

Summary: Rappy the Raptor isn’t any ordinary raptor, he talks only in rhyme and no one knows why. His parents aren’t sure whether to take him to a zoo or to the doctor. So they rushed him off to the hospital. The doctors did exams in his eyes, ears, and even his rear. They put him through all different kinds of tests and machines. Rappy was expecting the doctor to give him horrible news, but instead he told Rappy that he is perfectly normal. Activity: Have the students make up a little rap/rhyme about themselves and perform it for the class. You could create one about yourself to give them a little bit of an idea what to do and to give those students that need a little extra confidence to get up and perform theirs. Citation:Gutman, D. http://kachildrensbookreviews.blogspo...I saw this book on the shelf, read the title and decided that it had to be a good book. A and I had a blast laughing at how this raptor told his story by rapping. We learn how Rappy the raptor talks but not in the normal way. He likes to rhyme and rap and we learn what caused him to be like that. Very cute and fun to read, the pictures are wonderful and really go with the story. I think A and I will be looking into more stories of Rappy the Raptor and see what else he has to rhyme and rap about.

I think this book will have a lot of appeal for the young learner. The sing-song rhymes just pop off the page with a catchy beat and tell the story of how Rappy the Raptor became a rappin' velociraptor despite the frightening fall he took right after popping from his egg. The story goes from ambulance ride to happy diagnosis including many details along the way. The large brightly colored illustrations are humorous yet clearly support the text. Simply put, this is a fun book.
