Run To You Audiobook Summary

Rachel Gibson, New York Times bestselling author of Rescue Me, returns to Texas with a tale of what happens when a tough guy meets his match–and falls harder than a ton of red-hot bricks . . .

There’s nothing like fleeing Miami to ruin a girl’s day.

Stella Leon’s bartending gig was going fine until gorgeous ex-Marine Beau Junger decked her mob-connected boss, spirited her out of the city, and claimed that Stella’s half-sister–the one with the perfect life–sent him. Now Stella has no choice but to go along for the ride . . . and seduce

Beau’s military-issue socks off . . .

The Marine Corps was Beau’s escape from his old man’s legacy of naval heroism and serial philandering, but no amount of training could prepare him for the day he looked in the mirror and saw his father staring back. The answer: swear off meaningless sex. Oh, and find a way to makeStella Leon quit being so damn hot . . .

Rachel Gibson began her fiction career at age sixteen, when she ran her car into the side of a hill, retrieved the bumper, and drove to a parking lot, where she strategically scattered the car’s broken glass all about. She told her parents she’d been the victim of a hit-and-run and they believed her. She’s been making up stories ever since, although she gets paid better for them nowadays.

While second in a series, the first seems kind of inconsequential (and way short). Also, I don't recognize any of those names, so I'm thinking they're likely only tangentially related? This story had some stand-out moments and leads I really liked, though the theory was often better than the reality. Stella turned out way better than I expected up front. She's a bit old to still be finding her way in life (28) so the initial assumption is that she's a flake—an assumption that isn't helped by her being a bartender in a Miami glitterbar. It takes a while to figure out (though not spoiler timeframe) that she has been directionless but not really flaky. Yeah, she isn't sure what and where she wants to end up, but she's taking the very reasonable route of trying stuff out and learning what she's good at vs. what she likes doing. I liked that about her and I particularly liked that she eventually takes setbacks in stride and comes out stronger.Beau is less of a win, though I like the framework. He's the one where the theory (big, strong, capable Marine at the top of his form) doesn't quite play out in reality. Yes, he is all those things, but he's also pretty out-to-sea much of the time and he's emotionally constipated enough to give him a rougher road than if he'd just let himself care. I wanted to warm to him more than I did is all I'm saying. And not least because his constipation meant pain for Stella and that sucked more than a little. That said, I enjoyed their story and the banter was often fun. Add a couple laugh-out-loud moments and this is a 3½ that I'll round to four.A note about Steamy: Stella has an interesting take on sex that makes her technically a virgin (explicitly saving herself for love and marriage) though she pushes that definition enough that I'm counting all three explicit sex scenes as full-on sex scenes. And no, I'm not going to spoil how the technicality plays out. It's the middle of my steam tolerance, at any rate. After consideration, I'd just as soon that the whole technicality thing hadn't been a part of the story. It was part of the theory/reality split where it sounds good in framework form but it plays out about like any other romance that has explicit sex.

Run to You picks up after Gibson's Lovett, Texas book Rescue Me. Sadie Hollowell discovers she has a sister her father never told her about and is now sending sizzling hot retired Marine, Beau to make first contact. The first contact doesn't go so well...Beau finds Stella working a bar in Miami and he just happens to visit on drag queen night. After being man handled by her sleazy boss, Stella is unexpectedly rescued by Beau who happens to break her bosses nose (not knowing her boss was a mafia member). On the run from the mob, Beau tries different modes of transportation to get Stella to Sadie. All the while the sexual chemistry becomes a powder keg waiting to explode. Beau has more issues than Stella with her take things head on attitude. Each time an emotional wall is broken it seems it pops back into place. Stella being a 28 yr old virgin waiting for her perfect man and Beau being a 38 yr old celibate waiting for the right woman only hypes the sexual tension.I found this story LOL funny, I completely LOVED Stella's sense of humor even in the toughest situations. Rachel Gibson writes characters that you want as your friends and drool worthy alpha males into heart warming stories that will titillate your mind and senses.I received this ARC copy of Run To You from HaperCollins - Avon in exchange for a honest review. Stella is working as a bartender in a Miami nightclub when a stranger saves her from her boss’s unwanted advances by knocking said boss out. The trouble is that her now ex-boss is connected to the mob and he and his goons aren’t prepared to forget Stella and her hero so easily.Ex- Marine Beau is sent by an old friend to find Stella to reunite her with her long lost sister, Sadie. Stella has known about her older sister her whole life; she has always known Sadie was the one her father loved, while Stella was the one he ignored. Traveling from Miami to Lovett, Texas with the sexy Marine while she gathers her nerves turns out to be more than she bargained for.I practically adore everything Rachel Gibson writes and this book is lovable. It felt shorter than most of her books, of course that could be due to the fact that I couldn’t put it down and ended up reading it in one night. I liked the tough Beau and the awkward Stella. I liked how their views on life and love were very much the same even though they both have very dissimilar backgrounds. I liked the fact that they really got to know each other in the few days they were alone together in cars and hotel rooms. They learned to read each other fairly quickly and all of it was endearing. This book wasn’t the deepest of reads, but it was definitely satisfying. It kept me turning the pages long after my body begged for sleep and it has me yearning to read Blake’s story and catch up with Sadie and Stella and Lovett, Texas, quicker than I am sure Ms. Gibson can write. It was fast paced and tender hearted and left me smiling.Cherise Everhard, August 2013Book provided by and reviewed for the Amazon Vine Program

While this won't get into my top three Rachel Gibson books, Run to You was still a hot, sassy, exceptionally cute read. Beau Junger is a super-alpha hero but with enough smarts and humour to make him pretty darn adorable (and he has a certain skill in bed which will make most readers quiver uncontrollably... Well, it did me anyway... OK TMI!!). And I really liked Stella too, her insecurities, her quirky sense of humour, her desperate attempt to stay positive in the face of one major league life FUBAR. Also it's all written with Gibson's fabulously fluid, funky voice. And I'm always happy to return to Lovett, Texas. The small town with the mostest (hunky men wise). I'm assuming that Beau's twin Blake is gonna have a story too which I'm now looking forward to big time. So why only four stars... I guess just occassionally I found the balance between internal thought and dialogue tipped into a slower pace than I'm used to from Gibson. During their road trip it felt like Stella and Beau were spending a little too much time thinking about their conflicts and not quite enough showing them. But this is a minor criticism - maybe I didn't devour this book at the breakneck speed of my Gibson favourites, but I did still devour it.

The narration was great and the story was too. That is until it ended an hour too early. Lots of good build up – so much potential and then it all just ends. I felt like we had turned to abridged format all of a sudden. A B- for the content. An A- for Tanya Eby's narration.Up side? We finally get a top notch narrator who understands romance for a Gibson book!

November 13, 2013

Posted on Les Romantiques - Le forum du siteReviewed by TwingueuseReview Copy from the Publisher« Run to you » is the fourth book of a series named « Lovett, Texas » from Rachel Gibson if we consider “Crazy on you” a novel apart even though it is a short novel. I know very well the author, I have read her for the first time few years ago and I follow her ever since. I would not be very impartial in my review… I'll let you see through my comments, what is liable to suit you or not in this little story. The author gives us nearly a closed-door between our two heroes seeing that practically all the story can be summed up by a six-day road-trip between Stella and Beau. Indeed, Stella is Sadie’s half-sister (the heroine of teh second book) who learns by chance at her father’s death that she has a half sister of whom she did not suspect the existence, but the reverse isn't true. It does not matter: for Sadie, it is primordial to meet her. Stella, as to her, is torn apart between curiosity and jealousy toward this young woman she does not know and who had the chance of growing up with a father who always rejected her. Deep down, she is dead scared of not being loved by this new family.I liked Stella in her way. Full of doubt, she goes through life a bit lost, with no real knowledge about what to do with her hands, but always knowing how to get through thanks to casual works. When Beau finds her, she is a barmaid in a bar in Miami, and he is going to disrupt totally her life. On one hand because he knocks out Rocky, her boss who cooks up with the mafia, forcing her to leave the city, and on the other hand especially because he tells her about the famous half-sister’s existence. The circumstances of life will see to reunite them through this trip towards Texas.Beau is a pure Gisbonian’s hero. Very male, very strong, he is an ex-US Marine, converted in security. He is a hard guy, but we quickly feel a gentleman’s side which only asks to be expressed. I must say that to run away from his father’s model, from now on Beau forbids himself from having one-night stands. The next time he will make love to a woman, he will remember her name on the morrow, and he will have feelings for her. It is an adorable attitude I think. Particularly as Stella, as for her, raised in accordance with Spanish Catholic traditions, has decided to give her virginity to the man she will marry. We have to believe that at 28 years old, she is a virgin… She had intimate relationships …but not that kind. So… Why not.Beau is a bit more than he seems to be, and if his thoughts are quite mysterious to us, we understand quickly that he is horny as hell… and he lets himself being seduced by Stella without any resistance, let’s be clear!Hot scenes are well written even if Mme Gibson got us used to better. However it spices up the story nicely …even if I would have wanted more of them! Lol. Generally speaking, I admit that the author gives us here a really short little novel. I would have loved to better learn to know the characters, and attend more tender moments between them, or more complicity. There was also the possibility to have a little more adventure and suspense by giving a more present role to Ricky and his henchmen… but unfortunately, it was not the case. Of course, we do not have the time to get bored, and I am giving a special little price to the beautiful declaration of love from Beau. Stella gives way easily and quickly (even though she should have made him go through hell a bit more...) but how to resist to five feet height and a half of muscles and tenderness! You will have understood, I am a bit disappointed. So if I have a little word for the author, I would tell her to think about adding a bit more spice and adventure in her stories, otherwise, she’ll risk leaving behind some of her readers which would be a pity when we know she is more and more interested by Navy Seals. Mrs. Gibson has a real talent to create heroes we love, it will be necessary to create a story around them which would have us wishing to read it again and again… As it is the case for some books of her.

I received an ARC/early copy of this book as part of the Avon Addicts program. I have to confess that while I've heard great things about Rachel Gibson's books in the past, this is the first RG book I've read. I've just never had the time to check out her books and add them to my massive TBR mountain until now. But after reading Run to You, I'm definitely on the Rachel Gibson bandwagon and will be glomming her backlist asap!I really really enjoyed Run To You. It was a fun, quick, sweet read with lots of humor, banter, fast paced plotting (a little over the top at some points but not excessively so), but lots of great character development and emotional depth as well. Stella and Beau were great characters that I came to care about and root for. I definitely recommend this book.(view spoiler)[At first glance, Run To You seems to be just an opposite attracts story. After all, you can't get two people more different than hard charging, Marine turned private security consultant Beau, and free spirit Stella who's moved from job to job and yearning for direction in her life. But it is in fact those difference that allow Beau and Stella to bring out the best in each other. Beau teaches Stella to focus, figure out and fight for what she wants, and Stella teaches him to lighten up a bit. :) I really liked and related to Stella. Due to her childhood with an absent and neglectful father, she's deathly afraid of meeting her half sister Sadie because of her fears of rejection and not measuring up. Her view on life is refreshing, if a bit off kilter from the rest of the world. I enjoyed how she and Sadie ended up bonding and connecting, and how she gained in strength and confidence throughout the course of the book. I enjoy reading about uptight characters like Beau because when they finally reach their breaking point, and let loose, whoa baby! :) That is definitely the case with Beau. He's a Marine, which means he's disciplined, takes his job seriously, and is a man of his word. So by god, he's going to take Stella to meet Sadie in Texas, no matter how crazy Stella drives him. I liked his chivalrous and honorable streak, when he came to Stella's rescue at the parking lot. It also comes through in how hard he struggled against his feelings for Stella because of the age difference between them, and he didn't want to take advantage of her. But most of all, he struggles with not wanting to turn into his father, hence his self-imposed celibacy streak, which just added another hilarious layer to the sexual frustration he feels around Stella. I feel in love with Beau as a hero because he's honorable, cares about his friends and family, and he always treated Stella with respect, even as they drove each other nuts. The relationship between Beau and Stella is definitely hot, but also fun and sexy. These are two people who don't want to like each other, but are drawn to each other despite themselves. They fight their attraction to each other for various reasons, but all the sparks that lead up to the bedroom scenes shows that the struggle is definitely futile. :) There is a great cast of secondary characters, including Beau's brother Blake, who I hope gets his own book soon! Rachel's writing reminds me a bit of SEP, so any fan of SEP would definitely enjoy this book, I think. (hide spoiler)]

Vince is in love and he wants to do anything to make Sadie happy. That includes enlisting his fellow former Navy SEAL, Blake to help him find Sadie's sister that she learned she had from her father's will. Blake enlists his Marine twin brother, Beau, to find Sadie's half sister, Estella Immaculata Leon-Hollowell. Stella Leon is supposed to be an easy job. Find her, tell her about her sister and let her decide what to do from there. Stella has known about her sister from the beginning. Her mother was her sister's nanny when her mother has passed away and Clive Hollowell paid well for them to stay away from the JH Ranch and Sadie. While Stella grew up yearning for her father's approval and attention, Sadie grew up with no knowledge that she even had a sister. Stella watched Sadie grow up and even though she was not allowed anywhere near the ranch kept tabs on Sadie and her successes. College and 4-H honors seemed to go hand in hand with Sadie while Stella just wished for a little of that attention. Stella believes she has a quirky sense of humor and realizes that not many people understand it. When she and Beau meet it is behind the bar she is working at and Beau is defending her from her boss. They share a cup of coffee and Beau explains why he knows all about her. This super-duper secret spy knows everything about her and she knows nothing about him. When her boss sends his associates to her to find out who the guy that knocked him out was she smashes his hand in the door and tries to decide what to do. Beau is more than happy to help her out when said associates camp out in her apartment parking lot waiting on her. His flash bang is the beginning of a cross country trip from Florida to the Texas panhandle that brings the two closer together. In the end the two learn that he can control his reactions no matter how hard core and controlled he is and she really is attracted to a guy who is not skinny and doesn't wear makeup. Laughter, tears and frustration all combine for a wonderful story that kept me on my seat. I have loved Rachel Gibson’s books for years and always look forward to the next release. I enjoy how she takes these hard core, controlling alpha soldiers and shows them that life is unexpected and can't be controlled. This was just another example of a fun read and I am sure you will enjoy it!

With five bucks in her pocket, Stella has to avoid the bad guys, resist the G.I. Joe, and travel from Florida to Texas to meet the sister she’s never met–and all without having a panic attack! Luckily, Beau, her grumpy escort isn’t a half-bad rock to lean on. And as for resisting him? Maybe they can work something out…I found this book hard to put down and was totally entertained. I love Stella and how sassy yet vulnerable she is. Beau is so insensitive yet protective that it’s hilarious reading their banter and watching their chemistry sparks grow into something more! There are secondary and minor characters that are interesting and who I suspect were introduced in the previous book in the series (which I haven’t read). There’s enough backstory to see where the characters come from but not too much that it felt like the first book got spoiled. The plot is extremely simple and can basically be summarized as: road trip! The meat of the story basically covers about a week, so it’s a short and intense period for our two leads to fall in love. They go from irritated to intrigued with each other in no time flat. The bad guy subplot pretty much disappeared by the end of the book, which I found disappointing since I thought it would be a part of a major climactic scene. Other than the short road trip and bad guy subplot at the start, the rest of the story is filled with characterization of our two leads and the eventual meeting of the sisters. It’s a very fast read, and I was surprised that I had finished it since I thought there would be more. For heat level, I would consider it about medium-high since there are sexual situations and innuendo. I loved the writing style and couldn’t help but smile while reading most of the book. Beau, a retired Marine, is so hilarious with his military intensity (he also uses military terms a lot but they’re explained to the reader when he explains it to Stella), and Stella’s thoughts are just too funny. If you like funny and sexy romances with a hardcore military man and a fun heroine, check this one out! This was a 4.5 out of 5 for me!(Originally posted on my blog; I received an ARC in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.)
