I really enjoyed this collection of short horror stories geared toward a young adult audience. I think it is perfect for the tween/early teen crowd and may even give the some goose bumps and nightmares along the way. If you have a young adult that likes horror then I recommend this book for you.

I have to say I really enjoyed this anthology of stories. It really harkens back to my childhood where there were all these scary story anthologies I used to read under the cover during middle school. And there were a large variety of stories-- some that were beautifully written, others with surprise endings, and others in the format that reminded me of stories written in the 90s. There were only a few that I didn't really get into, but I feel like there is a little something for everyone. I really did like the stories that ended with a twist! If you want a fun read, especially if you like to be a little scared, this is the book for you!

OMG I just loved this anthology of spookiness! This book is twenty short stories that either start or end with a scream. Of course, I have my favorite stories but all of them are very well done and great for kids of all ages. The book is filled with lots of creepy stories that are very unique and creative. I highly recommend it to everyone especially during the Autumn/Halloween season.

Buona lettura.Voto libro – 4

Genuinely enjoyed these little nuggets of RL Stine level lighthearted spooks. Perfect for young, reluctant readers. These stories have modern day references and characters kids can relate to. Any young reader, or baby of the 80s-90s will very much enjoy this.

*4.5 starsI read this collection aloud to my 12 year old twins in the weeks before Halloween this year, and it was the perfect read for the season! I don't think there was a single story that we disliked. Lots of creepy stories and most were surprising and unique! I'd highly recommend this book for middle grade readers or adults who enjoy reading middle grade with light horror and mystery elements.

This book contains 20 stories and I enjoyed reading all of them. All of them including characters screaming for various reasons. A few I was able to guess what would happen but even then they were still fun and entertaining to read...plus I got the satisfaction of guessing correctly! Since this book is aimed at kids, all of the characters are 12 or 13 years old...which is just fine with me as I love these creepy stories. The tales cover a wide range, too, everything from alternate realities to even historical fiction. Most though are set in the usual modern day setting of cell phones, schools and truly bizarre towns. And in truly gruesome fashion, not all of the main characters survive. Most do. You have mean bullies, amusement park, a cemetery, a haunted house and lots of fun twisted endings.Thinking back, I think my favorite stories in here involved the ones with animals. The girl who was feeding birds in the forest, the one with the squirrels, the girl in Florida who had Green Lightning the iguana for a pet...that is a grand name by the way. Green Lightning...But maybe the best story in the book might be Ring and Run, a story set on Halloween with trick and treating. I pick this one because I think it teaches something important. The setting is creepy with the dark streets and the approaching thunderstorm but then you have the lady's house with the stinky smell and she is acting strange, mixing up words. It might prove useful to someone someday. Might save a life if they recall the story. And sometimes it's best to follow your instincts...

To begin, let me confess: I read this ONLY because of the title, which is also the title of a 1970 horror film starting Vincent Price and Christopher Lee. I am, above and beyond just about anything else, a devotee of 1) horror movies, 2) cult films, and 3) Vincent Price (and also Christopher Lee, but only horror-era. I mean, his post-horror filmography is fantastic in its own right, I'm just salty about how he renounced his horror stuff later on. Anyway), so this title *immediately* grabbed me. I have absolutely no doubt that R. L. Stine intended the homage, so that lands it at an instant 3-stars. I see you.Stine explains in the forward that each story begins and ends with a scream, and sure enough, it's like crossing a jungle full of your standard (and often weird) horror fare on scream-vines, like a thrill-seeking Tarzan except reading. That's a neat trick...until it isn't. To their credit, the authors made it work, and I did enjoy all the twists and turns and verbal jump-scares from start to finish. It just kinda went from scream to groan over the course of the book, and that was kind of a let-down. Thumbs-up for sticking to the schtick, but dang.HOWEVER! I'm a jaded old woman. Middle-school Steph would've eaten this UP and asked for seconds, and that's what matters here. 🤘

Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer

I had purchased Scream and Scream Again! several months ago only because I knew it was edited by R.L.Stine and featured a brand-new short story by him. I had no idea the names of the other authors until after I received the book. Some of the bigger names in this anthology include Chris Grabenstein, Wendy Crosi Staub, and Heather Graham. I'm not going to go into details about the plot of each story, as it will take me all day to write about them. The stories were a hit and miss for me. Some of them were frightening, some weren't too bad, and others just plain sucked, which the latter does include the story by R.L. Stine. Let's just say I thought his story was just plain dumb. Mr. Stine can write better than that! Out of the twenty short stories, my favorite is Bricks and Bones by Emily Laybourne. It's a surprisingly well written ghost story.Overall, Scream and Scream Again! is a spooky and entertaining read. Sure, there are a few duds in it, but most of the stories are worth reading.*Note - Doesn't the house on the art cover remind you of the computer-animated movie Monster House?

Collection of short stories written by several authors belonging to Mystery Writers of America and edited by R.L. Stine. PROS: Clever concept of all the stories beginning and ending with a scream. I liked some more than others - all of them gave me those delicious creepy vibes. Although written for juvenile readers, there were a few that I think the hardcore horror fan would enjoy. Favorite story was: "Ring and Run" by Steve Hockensmith. CONS: Keep in mind that these stories are written for kids. Some are a little cringy. OVERALL: Definitely enjoyed the collection!
