The Captive (The Secret Circle #2), L.J. SmithInitiated into a coven of young witches, Cassie is intoxicated by her new-found strength - powers as addictive as they are dangerous. She is caught between two rival forces, forced to choose between two impossible actions: should she betray the ones she loves, or confess all and risk expulsion from the circle for ever? The Secret Circle is a supernatural, young-adult series of books created by L. J. Smith. The narrative follows the character of Cassie Blake as she is initiated into a "Circle" of eleven other teenage witches and the danger that ensues when they accidentally unleash a dark force upon their town. Matters are further complicated when Cassie finds herself in a love triangle that threatens to tear the Circle apart.تاریخ نخستین خوانش: سال 20123 میلادیعنوان: اسیر کتاب دوم از سری دایره مخفی؛ نویسنده: لیزا جین (ال.جی.) اسمیت؛ا. شربیانی

This book was even better than the first one! We get to know more things about the people who form the circle something i really needed because i couldn't distinguish them in the first book. Twelve characters were a lot for me to handle and i'm really impressed with the author because not only she manages to involve them all in the action but she also made each of them unique.I'm glad Cassie got more stronger in this book both in spirit and in magic, seeing the main character being weak all the time in the first book was not so fun. What's also exciting is the fact that Cassie develops a darker side which made her a more interesting character. Then ending too was so intense, i can't wait to read the third book!

This is book 2 in The Secret Circle series. See my review of book 1 here. This book was just as good as the first in the series. The tension is building as Cassie is black mailed into helping Faye wrestle power away from Diana. Cassie finds herself hurting those she cares most about and also suffers a great loss in her family. Cassie’s grandmother also reveals important information that none of the Circle knew about previously in hopes it will help them battle the dark force that was released.Faye is one scary witch and you have to wonder how sane is she? Poor Cassie finds herself stuck between a rock and a hard place and must decide if she will let Faye hurt Diana by revealing the connection between Cassie and Adam or hurt Diana herself by supporting Faye in her bid for power. Deborah, Nick and the Henderson brothers are much more likeable in this book and the suspense of finding out whose side they will end up on as well keeps you hooked. It’s been so long since I’ve read these books that I can’t wait to read the last book in the trilogy.

Cassie is being blackmailed by Faye. But doing what Faye asks will be the ultimate form of betrayal. Will Cassie go through with it?If she doesn't, she runs the risk of destroying her relationship with Diana, and perhaps the entire Circle. But if she does, something evil might be unleashed on New Salem. An old and very powerful evil.In my review of The Initiation, I mentioned I'm biased on this trilogy. Biased as hell. Wish I wasn't, but I am.For one thing, I was obsessed with the TV show. I also happen to love just abut all of L.J. Smith's books. Most of all, though, I love love love witches. I don't care if they're green and fly around on brooms like the Wicked Witch of the West. I don't care if they use wands and are incredibly smart like Hermione. I don't care if they are blonde and own a talking cat like Sabrina the Teenage Witch. And I don't care if they're young, beautiful, selfish, and headed for destruction like the witches in The Secret Circle trilogy. I was not expecting to like this book as much as I did. Most people that rate this book 4-5 stars read it during their teenage years and rate it so high because it brings back nostalgia. They read it as teenagers, some even pre-teens and just loved it. Some even went ahead and re-read it now as adults and found it to be simple and childish. That's understandable. The thing is, I read this just today. I'm in my 20s and I am rating this 5 stars. I'll even go ahead and say that I would give it 5 stars even if I wasn't biased. Why? Because this book is awesome. It is. The ending was so exciting to me and I'm glad there is still one remaining book in this series for me to read.I am not exaggerating when I say this book blew me away. It has now become one of my favorite books OF ALL TIME.It's short and, yes I'll admit it, pretty simple. I read it in a matter of hours and the further I got into the story, the more invested I became. But it had it's flaws. It really did. But damn it if I didn't find the flaws absolutely hilarious.I loved the fact that three people were murdered in or near the school but it is never really investigated. The police show up, don't find any clues and that's that. They don't conduct investigations, there are no suspects, no arrests, nothing. The school doesn't even get shut down or anything.I can't express to you how hilarious this is to me. Even thinking about it now makes me laugh. The funny thing is, had this happened in any other book, any other series, I would've undoubtedly bitched about it to the end of the world and back. The apathy of the characters really shines through when another student dies and one of the girls says “What about the Halloween dance?” …“Guys, another person at our school just died and that's sad and all, but I don't want to miss the dance. I already bought the perfect shoes and everything!” Okay, so that last part isn't an exact quote, but you get it.Cassie makes some really stupid decisions. Like when she goes to the cemetery in the middle of the night. Even though just a few hours earlier they saw a mysterious and possibly dangerous ghost lurking around. Girl....Like I said, these things didn't bother me at all. I relished in this book's flaws. I love it more BECAUSE of it's flaws. The main character of this book, Cassie, did a 180 attitude wise. Last book she was naïve and grateful for the kindness people showed her, and shy.In this book she's mean. She's jumpy and catty and easily ticked off and... more daring, I guess. What really surprised me , though, was the fact that halfway through the book I realized I actually liked Faye. Which is bizarre. Faye is a bitch. Faye is annoying. Faye always ends a sentence with a “throaty chuckle” or some weird kind of laugh that I can't remember how to describe. It's annoying as fuck. But I like her. Underneath all that wickedness, oozing sexuality, and beauty is a sad, sad lady. Maybe she's sad because her mom is always sick and unavailable to her. I don't know. I just want to say: I see through you, Faye Chamberlain. All you really need is a hug and someone to be there for you. I'm not saying I want to be the one to hug you or be there for you, I'm just saying, you need someone to love you unconditionally. Go out and find yourself someone nice to love. This book also helped me realize that I am falling for Nick. And for no good reason, either. He's still a godforsaken enigma. I don't know anything about him. Other than he's a tall, sullen, brooding, quiet, indifferent, alcohol drinking, cigarette smoking, handsome devil. And that there's a slight chance he miiiiight like Cassie. And now I want them to end up together, dammit!I mean, yeah, I like Adam but he's just so... good. Which translates to boring.I need adventure and a tiny little bit of romance and unpredictability. I mean, Cassie needs adventure and a tiny little bit of romance and unpredictability. Hehe.Hear my plea, oh great L.J. Smith! Allow Cassie and Nick to be together forever! The Captive is now a favorite of mine. I don't care how stupid or childish it seems. I love it. I can't wait to read The Power!Quotes:”I don't know what's going on, and it's none of my business, anyway. But I'd like to go to the dance with you.” -pg. 195“It's yours, Cassie. From my grandmother to me to you. You have the sight and the power, as I did, as your mother does. But you can't run away like she did. You have to stay here and face him.”“Never be afraid, Cassie. There's nothing frightening in the dark if you just face it.” -pg. 292

Although i love this book and the authors descriptions and writing... Cassie can sometimes just be so thick and annoying.....Faye's blackmail (Just be honest and then avoid each other) Cassie has ended up doing alot more Damage to Diana than just admitting this in the start.....And cmon Nick is so much more scrummy......Still this book had lots of twists and turns while cassie finds herself deeper in the group.
