Splat the cat is scared to sing in front of people. This is a very good beginners book for children who are just learning to read.

Scotton is a neat story about Splat the Cat who is shy and doesn’t remember how to sing. His teacher tells him that he has to sing on Parent’s Night in front of the whole school. Splat has a special friend who helps him get over his shyness. Can you guess who it is?

Splat has his first musical recital. But he is afraid he will forget. Plus, he sings flat. But Splat will come out well in the end, and make everyone proud.

My son is a HUGE fan of cats. You could say it borders on being an unhealthy obsession. So as one can imagine the Splat the Cat books are among his favorite. My son enjoyed this one and love to "help" read along whenever he would recognize one of his site words. Both he and I love the way that Splat and all the other cats are illustrated. I love that you can tell just how fluffy splat is.This one was an easy read with simple rhyming. The hardest word would be the teacher cat named Mrs. Wimpydimple. This is a good book for early readers or those like my son who have short attention spans. I love that the book gives the lesson that it is ok to be yourself and that you don't have to be perfect or exactly like everyone else. 5 out of 5 star ratingThis book was read with my seven year old severely learning disabled son. The review reflects not only my views on the book but on what my son thought of it and how well he did with reading it.

Spalt the Cat is the Coolest Cat in kidlit history, with millions of hip cat fans loving each new book, so hopefully this review will expand Splat's evr-meowing fanbase...and as a beginning singer in this one, he'll seriously NEED a fanbase! Splat tries out for his school glee club at Mrs. Wimpydimple's with his groupie/mouse friend Seymore in tow (and on his toes!) but Splat's issues with confidence on stage prevent him from properly performing. IE: he sings flat!!! He sings so flat, Mick Jaguar of the Meowing Stones is probably question his own vocal stylings (Which is saying a lot!) so Splat needs his friends to cheer him on! It's FURSTOCK, baby! Three school periods of peace (or lack thereof) and music (however loud and obnoxious!)! MORE$ SPLAT for an ENCORE!!!! He's the ORIGINAL CHEETAH GUY!!!!

We own quite a few Splat the Cat books at our house because, quite frankly, he's adorable. The story for this book is simple, although some of the words are a bit complex, like the name "Seymour". That really isn't a problem in our house. My son reads the words that he can, and I help him with the rest. In fact, I like books that challenge young readers and listeners and expand their vocabularies. The real reason we buy Splat the Cat books, though, is for the artwork. Splat is impossibly adorable and I often find myself wanting to ruffle that fuzzy fur. Actual rating: Text, three stars; illustrations, five stars.
