I did not foresee myself reading this book. My goal is to read more nonfiction and growth books. I want to be healthier in my habits and challenge myself more. I admire this psychologist. She is not known for her bedside manner, but I feel there is a lot of wisdom in the words of hers I have heard.A big bookshelf of mine recently broke and I needed to figure out what to do with all the books that had been in there. As I began going through my books I came across one of hers. It made me laugh. I am not dealing with feelings of betrayal or revenge. I thought it would be interesting to read some of her perspective. It has been interesting in the past and it was again this time. This is a short book and proved a quick read. Throughout it, I found myself writing down a few things for my own notes to have and consider more in depth later on.Too often emotions cause logic to go right out the window and we don't always act or react in the most healthy ways. I always want to be working on myself. I want to be the kind of person others want to be around. I want to treat people the best I can.I will probably read other books of hers in the future. Again, out of curiosity, and if I benefit from them, I would not be surprised. I am of the belief you always walk away from anything with something.

Sharing her own personal experiences with humor and honesty, Laura Schlessinger lets us explore the pain of being betrayed and helps us look at all the possibilities of how we can handle it. Betrayal is a fact of life but we do have choices. As one who has survived my own shark attacks, I found the book insightful and encouraging causing me to see the betrayals that happen to us in a whole new light.

I have enjoyed listening to Dr. Laura since I was a child and felt that I could use some help getting over a betrayal that I had been dealing with for some time. I enjoyed the read, but felt at times that it was more autobiographical than self help. Either way, I now feel better equipped to deal with my betrayal and hopefully move on with time.

Affirmation for the Betrayed Given that Betrayal is a stunning but not uncommon experience, it's sad there is so little written or public discussion of it. This book provides much needed support and practical advice.

Overcoming VengeanceLoved the personal triumphs that occurred after each betrayal. It is a Christian-based perspective to be grateful for life’s trials knowing that the treasure awaits believers.

I can't remember the last time I've been betrayed (thank goodness), but I think that this book's message would apply to any hurtful or infuriating situation. Basically, Dr. Laura says revenge is a fun idea, and stewing in anger has its appeal, but getting on with life and enjoying yourself in spite of setbacks is the healthiest approach. I always enjoyed Dr. Laura's radio show and agreed with about 90% of her advice--this book is likewise mostly good (she inserts her rigid ideas against gay marriage, quotes Sarah Palin's words of advice to her, and spends more time complaining about the media backlash over her use of the "N" word than reflecting on why it was a terrible mistake on her part). In the best parts of this book, she opens up about the pain of her son discovering that nude photos of her were posted on the internet, how characters based on her in TV shows hurt her deeply, and the time that a friend didn't stick up for her when someone she'd just met treated her very rudely. Brusque as she can be to callers, Dr. Laura is pretty human on the inside.

Typical Dr. Laura Schlessinger, this book brings together real life stories from callers and people who have written to her regarding moving on after betrayal. It seems like her tales are more of people who have shared successes with her versus people calling in for advice, like some of her earlier books. Like "Bad Childhood, Good Life", she included several autobiographical examples of times of betrayal and pain. In "Bad Childhood, Good Life", I liked the novelty of this. In this book, I felt her personal stories were a bit heavyhanded. I appreciated her perspective on healing and revenge as well as her candor about letting people go who have hurt others in ways where restitution is not reasonable. I listened to this book, and I plan to listen to it again to glean from it some of the more pithy truths.

I was very curious to read this book by Dr. Laura. I have loved her other books, although I think it is important to filter some of her views. She is right about 85% of the time, and I love her frank and to the point advice. This was a great read if you are dealing with betrayal. A couple favorite quotes from the book, "There is no reason why good cannot triumph as often as evil. The triumph of anything is a matter of organization. If there are such things as angels, I hope they are organized along the lines of the Mafia." and "The problem is not that there are problems. The problem is expecting otherwise and thinking that having problems is the problem." and "In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."

In spite of how long I seem to have taken to read this, it's a quick read. The topic is dealing with betrayal and disloyalty *without* resorting to revenge, which makes the subtitle a bit of a tease. Lots of stories and personal experiences here, including many of Dr. Laura's own dealings, with an afterword about the recent problems that drove her from terrestrial radio. There isn't much here that isn't just common sense; but common sense is hard to come by when we are overwhelmed with grief and rage. I will probably return to this book the next time I feel betrayed, if only to riffle through the pages and look at the carefully selected quotes that are sprinkled throughout, or perhaps find a story like mine, and consider the consequences of my first (bad!) impulses.

Easier to denature plutonium than denature man, do we make regretable decisions particularly when there is a lack of humble healthy self-confidence, live an example for others--Joy-Jesus-others-you, pride and prejudice and vices are as a poison ingested wherein self poisoned thus help the person with a remedy, focus on virtues to be truly happy, when bashing occurs of others will likely do to you as well and therein is a motivation to do one-on-one challenge of basher, why continue insanity, one-on-one, forgiveness-remorse-responsibility-repair-reconcile and recall the ease done of the Amish, make it a blessing not a burden.

Why do people betray you? What can be done after a betrayal so you don't end up depressed the rest of your life? Should you take revenge? If so, what 'kind' of revenge would it be?Dr. Laura deals with all these questions in her usual no-nonsense manner. She uses examples from her own life as well as the lives of her callers to answer these questions. What is the best revenge?A life well lived!! We all have to deal with betrayals of sorts. How we do so shows us our character as well as how productive our lives will be.

I didn't know what to expect with this book since I don't necessarily connect with Dr. Laura but having been hurt unexpectedly, I decided to give it a try. It's true that anger and the feeling of revenge seem to take over after experiencing betrayal or what one has perceived as such. Reading this book was humorous to me...it was reading my mind. However, it lightened my load and helped me move on...feeling sorry for the "other" person who seemed obviously bothered that I wasn't rattled for too long. This was a quick read and a fun one too.
