The Baby Plan Audiobook Summary

In Kate Rorick’s first adult fiction novel, we enter the wild, bewildering world of modern pregnancies. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll shake your head as you wonder where everyone’s sanity went…

Meet the mothers…

Nathalie Kneller: Nathalie’s plan: to announce her pregnancy now that she’s finally made it past twelve weeks! But just as she’s about to deliver (so to speak) the big news to her family, her scene-stealing sister barfs all over the Thanksgiving centerpiece. Yup, Lyndi’s pregnant too, swiping the spotlight once more…

Lyndi Kneller: Lyndi’s plan: finally get her life together! She’s got a new apartment, new promotion, new boyfriend. What she didn’t count on–a new baby! She can barely afford her rent, much less a state-of-the-art stroller…

Sophia Nunez: Sophia’s plan: Once she gets her daughter Maisey off to college, she’ll finally be able to enjoy life as make-up artist to one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, and girlfriend to one of rock’s hottest musicians. But after 18 years she discovers the stork is once again on its way…

Now these women are about to jump headlong into the world of modern day pregnancy. It’s a world of over the top gender reveal parties (with tacky cakes and fireworks); where every morsel you eat is scrutinized and discussed; where baby names are crowd-sourced and sonograms are Facebook-shared. And where nothing goes as planned…

Favorite Quotes:He was also a musician, which as far as Maisey could tell, meant he wore really expensive weathered clothes and always looked like he was wet.I remember I was so bloated with Luke, I looked like I’d died in the bathtub and they found my body three days later. They’re trying to think of something good to say. Because saying ‘you don’t have your life together enough to have a baby,’ doesn’t really fit on a Hallmark card.Yeah, and do you know what I told him ten minutes before you got married? … That if he ever did anything to hurt you, I would travel to South America, buy an authentic machete, bring it back, and hack him to pieces with it… I was in my horror-movie-watching phase. I had only happened recently, this need to ABC – Always Be Couching. My Review:Silly me, from the cover and synopsis, I was expecting a romantic comedy, and while it was often witty and packed with amusing insights and observations, it was more of a women’s fiction tale with heartbreak, maternity issues, and loads of family drama. The storylines were relevant and entertaining while plucking at my heartstrings almost as often as it contributed to the smile lines on my face. I enjoyed the author’s writing style, smart humor, and unpredictable conundrums, although I didn’t see these characters as types I would personally want to befriend.

I received this book for free from Publisher via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Review Well I held off on this one until I had my baby thinking it would be timely. It was. It focused on three women,  2 sisters and another woman, who are all going through pregnancies. Their lives and pregnancies wind up intertwining. I love books with sibling relationships and intertwining stories so this one was already set up for me to enjoy it. Add in the funny and sometimes very real pregnancy issues and it was definitely a winner. There was also some marriage issues, mother-daughter issues, complicated family set ups - all things that added to the story. Also, all the characters that were focused on had a good amount of growth which I always appreciate. Overall it was a cute story focusing on not only pregnancy but the relationships between the characters and their families. Review I have heard things about Claire Mackintosh's books and knew I had to try one. While Let Me Lie didn't blow me away I thought it was a really solid mystery that I enjoyed a lot. It deals with Anna whose parents committed suicide about 7 months apart. While she is still trying to move on a year later someone sends Anna a note questioning whether it was suicide at all, throwing her into her own investigation of the deaths. I thought it really kicked off well getting me really hooked and interested. The character of Murray, the retired detective that gets involved, was my favorite. I liked him as well as his backstory and relationship with his wife. I could have used more of him. The middle felt a bit slow. I do think the end picked up and definitely kept me guessing. I haven't been surprised by a mystery in a while and this had that element for me. I am excited to get to her other books now. This review was originally posted on Rebel Mommy Book Blog

I’ve long been drawn to books about pregnancy and motherhood, even well before I had my own kids, but it’s been awhile since I read one this dang good! It reminded me of the chick Lit I used to read when I was younger, sassy and smart with relatable characters and issues, I couldn’t get enough...This follows three women at very different stages in their lives making it easy to find someone to relate to. Nathalie is a by the rules kind of girl who has everything in her pregnancy planned out perfectly then there’s her sister, Lyndi who is much more laid back, almost too laid back. Sophia already has one child who’s about to graduate high school so a new baby means starting ALL over. Out of them all I liked Sophia the most but all three were well drawn and went through some growth over the course of the book...Set in L. A. you get a glimpse into the glitzy side of the city as Sophia is a makeup artist for a TV show and you also get to see the over the top personalities and lifestyle choices Cali residents are known for. The modern day look at motherhood is spot on, from online mommy forums to ridiculous gender reveal parties, Rorick nailed every aspect of pregnancy today with humor, this was a funny one y’all! If you enjoy books about friendship, family, parenthood with some sweet and emotional moments add The Baby Plan to your TBR...The Baby Plan in three words: Witty, Funny and Light. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️_____________________________________________#instabooks #instaread #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #igreads #read #bibliophile #reading #booktography #booklover #bookworm #bookgram #bookish #goodreads #readersofinstagram #booknerd #iphonephotography #igbooks #girlswhoread #blogger #lovebooks #bookblog #bookreview

A perfect light and spot-on read for anyone who has ever been pregnant, especially in recent years. The women are all so different, and their pregnancy stories so diverse, that it is easy to relate to at least one of these women as they navigate pregnancy and the rest of life as well. Family drama, IKEA trips, gender reveal parties, baby showers, and MORE! Highly recommended to anyone looking to immerse herself in the mom-to-be world!

This novel follows the lives and pregnancies of three women. Married Nathalie, who has been trying to get pregnant, her younger sister Lyndi, who didn’t plan on getting pregnant, and makeup artist Sophia who has a teen daughter and a rock star boyfriend when she finds out about her oops baby. The book is about how pregnancy impacts each of these women and is filled with plenty of charming, and some not so charming, characters who add to the pre-mommy chaos. These are the kind of people that are found in everybody’s life and gives the story a kind of genuineness. It is a laugh riot with plenty of feels and completely captures the roller coaster ride of looming motherhood from pregnancy books to ridiculous gender reveal baby showers and everything in between. With three entirely different yet intertwining perspectives, there is something for every reader to relate to.The end seemed a bit rushed to me like the story wasn’t quite finished, I would have preferred a bit more closure from all three women, but it was definitely an enjoyable read and Rorik is an author I would love to read again.Let's talk about books at I Read What You Write

https://oneblogtwobroads.blog/2018/03...I wanted a nice bit of escapism and this was just the trick!Three women, all different, find out they are pregnant and we get to follow along through the tears, laughter, gas, pains, weight gain, etc. Even in our differences, we are all the same. How many of us had strangers touch our pregnant bellies or had someone tell us their birth horror stories? Right?Nathalie is the planner. Of course, as we know, things don’t always go as planned. Her husband is working a lot and that is messing up her need to plan everything down to the letter. She even has a big plan for how to tell the family that she is finally pregnant, on Thanksgiving! But then her younger sister throws up in the cornucopia with her own announcement.Lyndi is young, unmarried and not as settled as Nathalie would like. She seems to work on her own time frame. Hurry is not her middle name. She lives with her bisexual boyfriend/roommate Marcus. He might be my favorite character. I will call him Mr. Mellow.Sophia is a makeup artist to one of the biggest stars and also already a mother to a teenager heading off to college soon when she finds out she is pregnant. Throw in a rather suspicious boyfriend and it makes for quite a mess.Though some troubles come their way, it really is a rather joyful, fun book. I enjoyed the three main characters and it brought back a lot of memories of pregnancy. Nathalie’s gas episode is very funny. And the gender reveal party (who started those) was also a hoot. If you want to sit and not think too hard and just enjoy a good read, this is for you. Thanks to William Morrow for a copy of this fun book.

I really did enjoy the book. I feel like I personally relate to Nathalie. The only thing I was hoping for was to find out how it ended for Lyndi and Sophia.

I’d say this one is a 3.5 rounded to 4 for a good ending. This felt like reading a Hallmark movie, which was exactly what I needed from this book.

I didn’t expect to enjoy this book; I’ve never been pregnant and never had a desire to be. However, this books not only explored pregnancy but interesting dynamics and presuppositions between partners, family members, and sexual identities. There’s definitely more here than I expected. I would give it a 3.5 because there still needs to be more; I guess I’m feeling generous today.

Final read of 2017!This was a lot of fun! Three pregnant women, all at different stages of their lives, connected in more ways than they realize. As a female, I love babies so anything about pregnancy is bound to pique my interest. Although I have no personal experience upon which to base my criteria, I do believe this was likely a realistic portrayal of the idiosyncrasies and stress often associated with pregnancy and childbirth. Nothing earth shattering but certainly an enjoyable way to breeze through roughly 400 pages.

This is EXACTLY what I was looking for in a Chick Lit about three pregnant women! It was funny, touching, light, and just a little over the top. I laughed, I cried (it's probably just the postpartum hormones...), I couldn't put it down.I related to Nathalie (the "h" is silent) on so many levels. I wish I had kept a running tally of all the things we have in common. Both teachers, both actively avoiding ever cooking a Thanksgiving meal by always going to relatives houses, both like IKEA just a little too much. While I found her troubles with her husband something I couldn't relate to at all (mine was more excited about our babies than I was), everything else about her pregnancy experience made me feel so heard and understood.I liked Sophia and Lyndi a lot too. They were completely different for me in every way, but I was most definitely rooting for them. It was really cool seeing Lyndi and her boyfriend grow up and take ownership over their new role as parents. And Sophia seems like someone I would love to be friends with. I especially loved reading from the POV of Sophia's brilliant and sarcastic 18-year-old daughter. So much amazing teenager-y stuff!Rorick did not take this book too seriously, which was perfect. This is a light, fluffy comedy. There were some heart-string-tugging moments, but they weren't too heavy. Trigger warnings for lost pregnancy, but it was handled so very well. Though I shed a couple of tears for the character in question, since it was all a part of the backstory it wasn't dwelt on for too long. Just enough for you to get where the character was coming from and move on to the here and now.In fact, this was light to the point of corny by the end. I mean, how can you really wrap a book like this up without getting a little on the preposterous side? All in all I recommend this to expecting moms, new moms, old moms, and maybe-someday moms alike. It was a fun, sweet read that really captures everything that is frustrating about being pregnant.

The Baby Plan is one of those books that makes me happy that I've never had children. I could never handle the gender reveal parties and baby showers. They would make me nuts. In fact, many times in the book, Sophia's daughter mentions that her mom's pregnancy is making her not want to have childrenThis story involves three women in different parts of their lives. Nathalie and Lindy are sister's and pregnant at the same time. Nathalie is in her thirties and Lindy in her twenties. They aren't quite the closest of sisters and their pregnancy is pushing them apart.I felt sorry for Nathalie who had to share everything with her sister from her announcement of her pregnancy to all her parties. She had no one that she really connected with to help her with what she was going through, and it didn't help that her husband was slowing turning into a douche nozzle.Lindy is the young sister that doesn't have it together, but the nice part is that she slowly gets it together, through some missteps. It was good to see her grow up, because she was a touch annoying to start with. I could understand the hows and whys of her sister's anger with her.Sophia is the single mom, and her story felt the most disjointed, because she wasn't connected to either sister until midway through the story. Where Nathalie and Lindy were more normal women, Sophia is connected to Hollywood, as a makeup artist. Her life isn't glamorous, but its very different. She's a single mother to start with, with a daughter ready to head off to college, which gives her a whole new set of pregnancy problems. Add a rocker boyfriend to the mix and she probably has it worse of all of them. Each woman deals with their own issues, from some embarrassing bodily functions, to accidents, and finally to worrying about blood pressure.Slowly all of the women connect with each other and their problems with husbands, boyfriends and work start to evaporate. This was a fun book, with lots of laughs and a few tears along the way.

I haven't really been choosing chick lit for awhile, mostly because nothing really grabs at me, but this one did by the description and I'm so glad I took a chance on it- a solid 4 star! We have three different moms to be, all at different points of their life, all connected in a Kevin Bacon sort of way, dealing with pregnancy. Right away, I didn't like Nathalie and I felt bad because she's the one who wants it the MOST, even more than her husband, to be honest. Her announcement and everything with her pregnancy feels like a runaway train led by her sister, Lyndi. Lyndi is having an oopsie baby and she's a very go with the flow kind of gal, doesn't really want to do the whole adulting business, let alone raise a baby. Then we have Sophia, who has a daughter getting ready for college (Nathalie is one of her daughter's teachers) who is having a baby though her only child is going to be a COLLEGE STUDENT. She's not old by any means and even though she's in a great relationship, is she really ready to embark on this again? And who gets pregnant by accident, anyways? (Spoiler: lots of us do!) Just as the mom's are all different, their partners and circumstances couldn't be more different as well, making this is a great book with flip flopping points of view. You know I'm normally not a fan of flip flopping points of view because it's hard to keep multiple stories cohesive towards one end but Kate Rorick does a fantastic job doing that in this book. The book is funny, if you're a mom you will relate to each of these moms in a special way, and it is a page turning, fast read. I highly recommend this one if you're in the market for something light and fun! If you know a mom to be this would be a fun gift for the shower or a "Yay for getting knocked up!" gift for a good friend. Or read this at the park to remind you of all the reasons you are done having babies. That works too.

** spoiler alert ** - I Do Like The Book It Was Well Written But I Find Kathy Once Being Friends With Nathalie Mom And Then Having A Baby By Her Dad Is Very Weird. If I Was Nathalie I Would Of Had Resentment Towards Kathy. I Also Completely Understood Where Nathalie Was Coming From. It’s Crazy That Sebastian Would Cheat On Sophie She Deserves so Much More Than That I Love That Maisey Looked Out The For Her Mom And Maisey Going Out With Foz Building Her New Life. This Book Wasn’t What I Expected It To Be Its Great And I Actually Really Liked It. I Couldn’t Stopped Reading It. I’m Happy For Nathalie. And Lydie Even Though She’s Young She Made It Through And Honestly She Was The Only One With A Great Boyfriend And Guy Looking After Her Even Though He’s Bisexual I Like That This Book Dug Deep Into Emotions And Wasn’t Against Gays Like Lydie Completely Understood Marcus And Thats Great. I Also Think Its Brilliant How To Make These Characters All Know Each Other Somehow. I Wish I Had A Friend Like Sophie And Lydie And Nathalie They Really Helped Each Other. This Book Shows That Every Relationship Has Its Trials And Not To Give Up On That One Person You Love . This Book Made Me Realize That Having A Baby Is Not Easy Even When You’re Having A Guy Help You. Also Made Me Realize A Baby Is A Blessing To Every Mother They Want To Protect The Baby And Teach The Baby And Me Being A Teenager I Actually Respect My Mom Because Now I See How She Felt When She Had Me This Book Made Me Personally Connect With The Characters And Understand The Points Of View . It’s Also Nasty How Sebastian Goes With Venessa Like Ew Why Would You Want Her She’s A Waste Of Time, That Is Why I Don’t Trust My Boyfriend Having Female Friends That Are Too Close To Him I Don’t Trust Females .
