The Dark Glamour Audiobook Summary

Jane Boyle married her prince charming and moved into his upper east side castle–but she didn’t get her fairy-tale ending

It’s hard to live happily ever after when you discover your demanding and controlling mother-in-law is literally a witch, determined to steal the magical powers you didn’t even know you had. Jane narrowly avoided Lynne Doran’s clutches when she escaped on her wedding day, and has been hiding out in New York City. But she can’t hide forever.

When Jane learns of the one thing Lynne wants most, she sets out to provide it, hoping her good turn will persuade her mother-in-law to stop hunting her. Unfortunately, Jane’s daring plan will send her right back into the witches’ den–the Doran clan’s multistory town house on Park Avenue. But thanks to a tricky spell, blond architect Jane will be transformed into Ella, a dark beauty with a whole new look . . . and all of Jane’s budding powers. Though the stakes are life or death, nobody said “Ella” couldn’t have a little fun along the way, too.

I think this one is way better than the first one, but Jane needs to start thinking straight!!! She can be so dumb sometimes...She could've avoided that much trouble if she just had made some research!!!I was torn up between Malcom and Harris, but now it Malcom, Harris and Andre...although I think there's something between Anne and Andre, and they would be a cute couple.Between Harris and Malcom I so prefere Harris, at least Jane can be her true self with him...Since the beginning Jane was so swepted of ther feet with Malcom, that she couldn't or wouldn't let herself, think twice about marrying him and leaving her whole life behind! Come on, be an independt woman here!!!With Harris she stared to be more of herself, not some kept woman that is so infatueted that she can't think straight.Even with this opinion about Malcom, I'm still a little bit divided about him and Harris (I too was infatueted by him hehe)...Can't wait for the next one! Now that Jane has grown up, it will be a more interesting reading!!!

I had such a great time reading this book! Just like in the first book, the author delivers to her readers! I loved the twists and turns that are thrown the reader's way throughout the book. I'm glad to see Jane coming into her own. She is showing way more confidence and strength than she did in the first book. Truly enjoyed this book! Great read!!!!

http://www.chicklitaholic.blogspot.comThe Dark Glamour is the second novel in the 666 Park Avenue series, with the first novel being aptly named 666 Park Avenue. I was very excited to read this novel when I first heard about it. I love novels which involve witches in any shape or form. I think this stems from my love of the television show Charmed when I was younger, and perhaps a little bit from The Witches. Ever since then I have been fascinated with witches and whenever a book comes along features these interesting characters I am always eager to snap it up. Jane married the man she thought was her prince charming, however her happily ever after never came. Why? Because she found out not only is she a witch but so is her controlling mother in law, who tries to steal Jane’s powers. Jane manages to run away from her mother in law on he wedding day and is now hiding out. When Jane realises that everyone is looking for her she learns the one thing her mother in law wants most and sets out to try and get it. What Jane hopes will take her away from her mother in law ends up taking her right back under their noses. With the help of her friends and a unique spell Jane is transformed into someone else entirely, Ella to stop anyone realising her true intentions. Will Jane be able to find what her mother in law wants most and will she be able to escape once and for all? Even though The Dark Glamour is the second novel in the series, and I am still yet to read the first novel, I found that I did not get lost in the plot at any point. This is a novel that you an very much read as a stand alone as well as part of the series. Many of the previous events are explained in detailed therefore I was able to follow the storyline easily. That being said the new storyline still moves along at a good pace without being held back by explaining the plot of the first novel. I really enjoyed Gabriella Pierce’s style within this book, I particularly enjoyed the dialogue with the character interactions finding them to flow freely and realistically. As well as this I really enjoyed the descriptions as well. At times I felt as though I could have been wherever Jane was. I really enjoy when I am able to get carried off into a book with the use of descriptions. In terms of the characters I really enjoyed reading about Jane, I found her to be likeable and I felt moved by the situations in which she is placed. When Jane turns into Ella however, I felt that not only did her outer appearance change but also it seemed as though her inner character changed too. Ella acts more provocatively then I imagine Jane would do. Within the storyline there is a relationship between Ella and one of the other male characters, which I felt moved along much too quickly for my liking and made it appear as though Ella was very promiscuous. I did however find all of Jane’s friends to be fun to read about, adding a much needed injection of humour to the plot at times. I also enjoyed the inclusion of the character of Charles for the very same reason. I have to say that I did not enjoy reading about Andre. I found him to be very mysterious but yet I just did not like him at all. His character comes across as very self absorbed and I did not learn much about him from the novel. I feel maybe if Gabriella Pierce had added more about Andre and who he is, then I would have been more interesting in reading about him. There are a couple of places in the novel where I felt things were missing. For example there is talk of passports for Jane’s alter ego before she transforms into Ella, but for Ella herself there is no talk of a passport. Ella travels to London within the novel, yet how would someone who does not exist be able to get a passport? I also felt as though there was a large amount of time within the novel where Jane mentally debates many things that she is doing. This became a little too much at times and the plot slowed down significantly during these instances. Overall I really enjoyed The Dark Glamour, finding it to be fun, intriguing and glamorous. I found this novel to be almost a mix between Gossip Girl and Charmed, therefore if you like either of these I’m sure you will love this novel. The ending in particular was fantastic and leaves the storyline open for a potential third novel in the 666 Park Avenue series. After reading The Dark Glamour I am defiantly looking forward to the third instalment and would without a doubt read more from Gabriella Pierce in the future.

http://jerasjamboree.wordpress.com/20...Mid-August I read 666 Park Avenue (the first novel in this series) which I enjoyed and recommended for your reading lists. When The Dark Glamour was offered to me to review I jumped at the chance! When we left Jane Boyle she’d made her decision. The Dark Glamour opens with Jane living through that decision, which isn’t as exciting as she’d expected. It’s three weeks after her magical battle with Lynne Doran and Jane finally goes to the safe deposit box that Malcolm organised. She finds she has access to an endless supply of money … and an ornament that she’s not sure the significance of as it was deposited 15 years ago so before Malcolm knew Jane.Jane contacts Dee and the magical journey begins. Hoping to find out where Malcolm is by using the ornament in a spell, the outcome is totally different than her expectations. Needing to get back into the Doran’s home, Misty (from the Book and Bell) finds a rare magical object that will cause a glamour and last 28 days. What follows is a journey of twists and turns with Jane as her alter-ego Ella which is full of surprises and danger.André is a dangerous and dark character. The scenes with him and ‘Ella’ are tense and full of sexual tension. Both know they are lying but neither know what is below the lies, which adds an edge of further excitement. The intimacy with Andre has the wow factor and the domination is exactly right for his character. I didn’t feel entirely comfortable with one of the scenes but do feel it was necessary in portraying their relationship. The quest takes ‘Ella’ to London where best friend Elodie is staying with her parents. We only meet her briefly in 666 Park Avenue so I enjoyed getting to know her and seeing the easy relationship they have with each other. In the previous story, Jane was pretty much led by everyone else having had a sheltered upbringing. In The Dark Glamour, she is solo quite a lot of the time and making her own decisions. Despite her confidence and willingness to confront life, she shares her flaws with the reader which is an endearing quality and makes her very likeable.Jane’s magical journey through her grandmother’s blank diary is a key scene … when we find out the importance of why things have been arranged and why the protection, I was shocked! Having believed all along that Jane had made the right decision I now had to change my perception. I wondered if ‘Ella’ would be able to turn things around at the party … The scene in the billiard room was very tense. The war is definitely about to begin! I loved the original characters all coming together. I think Jane, Dee, Maeve and Harris will make a formidable team. I’m hoping they will be able to use the magic stored in the athame!Once again there is much to hold the reader’s interest. The previous key characters take a low profile in The Dark Glamour while Jane is off on her quest and we’re introduced to new key characters. The danger and tension had me turning the pages and when the layers of the plot unfold to reveal what is at the core … brilliant! The back story is built in throughout The Dark Glamour so you can read this book in the series as a stand alone. The next novel in the series The Lost Soul is due for publication 17 Jan 2013. Can’t wait!

Reviewed by: Caressa I give it: 4.82/5 witches I'd recommend this book:for an any day read. A couple weeks ago, I won my first Goodreads first reads giveaway. I was extremely excited as I had loved the summery and cover I had seen while researching this book from the moment I discovered them. It's not surprising I pulled open the package as soon as it arrived. Having never read the first book in the Park Avenue series, I feared I would be left behind as new plots referred back to the first book. To my extreme surprise and excitement, I was able to pick up the events as it explained them and to move forward in the story simultaneously. The writing was casual, never out of place in a real situation, but exactly to my taste. With clear meaning, openings for side plots, and an immense talent for leading the reader away from the heart of the mystery, I was caught. It didn't take me long to finish this read. I also really liked the characters that were part of this novel. Although all the characters had conflicts and personalities, they weren't distracting and added to the authentic sincerity of the novel. I also can't forget the visual presentation the book presented. I loved the designs on the first page of every chapter and I spent far too much time interpreting the cover. If I had seen this novel in a bookstore I would have definitely flipped it open to sample the story (if you look down at the picture, I can almost see a face in the chandelier. I'm not sure if it relates to the story in the first book but I finally came to a personal conclusion it was entertaining me because I thought it represented Charles.). However, I will say that it's not a book I would recommend to many friends. There were short sections of the novel that were much too graphic for my liking, and, out of habit, I usually pass these on only to my closest friends. Regardless, if you're looking for a fantastic spin off Cinderella, this is exactly the novel I would suggest. It barely paralleled the story but interested me to such a degree I never thought of comparing it to the fairytale. With that said, it was perfectly paced, on the border of falling into the selection of slower novels I don't enjoy as well. Had I read the first book, this novel definitely has the ability to push itself into a crawl. Have you read the Park Avenue series? What did you think? Let me know in the comments. ;) -C Goodreads (first read) giveaways are an amazing way to obtain books that you may have not otherwise discovered or ARCs that may not be sold yet. Author Gabriella Pierce now has two books out in the 666 Park Ave series. The first book, 666 Park Ave, sets the stage for a James Bond-type saga that replaces spies with witches. Unknown to the rest of the world, witches really do exist. Witch families are some of the wealthiest and most beautiful people on this Earth. They are constantly in the public eye yet hide what they really are.The Good WitchAfter college Jane runs away to Paris to seek some freedom from what she believes is an overprotective grandmother. Soon after, Jane falls in love with the worldly American, Malcolm, who wants to bring her home to his New York family. As Jane begins to adjust to her new country and new family she realizes that everything may not be what it appears. In fact, she may not be what she thought. Jane discovers she is a witch. The CovenIn this series, all the magical power is passed down through the female line. Malcolm’s mother being the leader of the New York household and coven at 666 Park Ave rules Manhattan, and possibly the world if she had her way. This wicked witch of a mother-in-law will stop at nothing to secure a female child to pass on her legacy. And it isn’t long before Jane realizes that her worthiness will last only as long as it takes to produce a child – a female child. The SecretsIn a world where most people still don’t know that witches and magical powers are real, Jane struggles with loneliness and trust as she tries to figure out how to use and control her powers. As her magical powers grow, Jane only faces more questions than answers about her future. Those few who she feels are real friends only put themselves in danger by associating with her. Especially as she discovers some secrets that her grandmother kept hidden from her - and others - which could give her mother-in-law even more reason to want her dead. How much of what Jane knows can she share with those around her without getting everyone killed?By the second book in this series, “The Dark Glamour”, Pierce has developed a complex story line with interesting characters that travel around the world in the pursuit of their quests. These action-packed books are both page turners. I’m sure that readers will be as anxious as I am for the third installment in this series. Watching Jane evolve from a naïve young lady into a confident, worldly woman is an exciting ride and one readers won’t want to miss.Sources:Pierce, Gabriella, 666 Park Avenue, Avon Books, New York NY, February 1, 2011, ISBN 0061434779Pierce, Gabriella, The Dark Glamour, HarperCollins Publishers, New York NY, August 30, 2011Official 666 Park Avenue Website

The Dark Glamour is the second book in this Intriguing and indulgent series by author Gabriella Pierce. In the first book we were introduced to our leading lady Jane Boyle, who is swept up in a whirlwind romance by the man of her dreams. Only to find out that everything is not as it seems. The Dark Glamour takes up where the 666 Park Avenue left off.It is hard to give a review with our there being a few spoliers in it. so this is your warning. Jane is now in hiding, from not only the Doran family but her friends as well. With there being nowhere in the world that Jane can escape from her evil mother-in law Lynne’s connections Jane decides to hid in the one place that they may not think to look for her New York City. After collecting what Malcolm has left her, she decides to reach out and contact her friend Dee. Though there are small glimpse of here other friends, the one I would have love to have seen more of ( Harris) only makes small appearances but the books ending may mean that he will have a bigger part in the next book. In this book there is a major plot twist and we are introduction of 3 new characters.Jane is a very strong and caring character that at times has a haphazard’s attitude of act first then deal with the consequences. As a result throughout this book there were moments where I question not only Jane’s judgement but her sanity. Staying in a city where your face is on every TV and magazine, not to mention hooking up with someone on team LynneI love the twist and the ending that leaves you wanting dying to find out what happens next.Though there are sections of this book that I wish there had been longer and more indept, I enjoyed every moment of it .If you wish to read my full review go to http://paranormal-angel.blogspot.com.au/

My weekend serving of popcorn was the series of three novels that putatively provided the framework for the TV series 666 Park Place. The middle novel, The Dark Glamour, takes up the tale of Jane Boyle, witch in training, as she hides from her mother-in-law in New York City.I almost said, she hides in plain sight, but actually her appearance is completed shifted by the "dark glamour" of the title. Thanks to a spell and a bottomless purse (courtesy of her out-of-sight husband Malcolm), innocent blond Jane gets to swank around New York and London as model-tall, model-glamorous Elle, a sultry brunette with a wicked sense of humor and a lot more confidence in her powers. This shift is echoed by a much lighter story. Although the tension continues to build, Jane believes she has found a way to get her mother-in-law off her back and help a young woman with a similar history to her own find her family and claim her powers. In addition, Jane's friends supply a better foil for her shift from clueless victim to "good witch".I forgive Pierce for the blatant telegraphing of the plot gimmick, since the story is otherwise well-told and fairly well balanced. (And because every good thriller deserves a cliff-hanger ending!)

The Dark Glamour is the second 666 Park Avenue novel and we liked it better than the first, though we enjoyed the first one also. Now our heroine, Jane Boyle, is hiding out in New York under the nose of her wicked mother-in-law and trying to figure a means to stop hiding forever. We will not give you more details for fear of spoiling the surprises but we only wish to say we look forward to reading the third book in the series.
