The Good Girl’s Guide to Murder Audiobook Summary

In the second installment of Susan McBride’s Debutante Dropout mystery series, Dallas heiress Andrea Kendricks must expose a high-society assassin … before she becomes the killer’s next target.

Website designer and high-society rebel Andrea Kendricks would never have gotten involved with ego-in-pumps lifestyle hostess Marilee Mabry if it weren’t for the underhanded machinations of Andy’s upper-crust mama. But thanks to Mother Cissy, Andy’s donning designer duds to attend a launch party at the intolerable domestic diva’s new Dallas TV studio–and she’s on hand to witness the celebration site go up in flames!

Then Andy finds Marilee’s daughter, seemingly lifeless. Even though iron-willed Cissy isn’t about to let her social calendar be upset by minor inconveniences like arson and possibly murder, her sometime-sleuthing daughter’s got a more pressing engagement–namely, hunting down the culprit behind some very foul play.

But there are more than a few nasty messes tucked away in the Mabry closet–and a craven assassin who has the Big D elite quaking in their cowboy boots may soon be burying Andy in hers!

Marilee Mabry is like the Dallas local version of Martha Stewart- only she's even more prickly. She's gone through 6 webmasters in a matter of weeks. Andrea Kendricks reluctantly agrees to take over temporarily as a favor to her mom. She quickly finds herself in over her head with all kinds of accidents happening including a murder. This was a surprising dark horse for me. I meant to read A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, but accidentally checked out this instead. Ooops, at least it was enjoyable. The names of some of the characters where quite comical and exactly what you'd expect from a bit of a cheesy mystery. While not exactly Agatha Christie level murder mystery, it kept me guessing enough. Since it didn't require a lot of brainpower, it was exactly what I needed to listen to while sick. Would definitely like to read more in the series.

I loved this book! The protagonist Andy Kendricks was so very likable and her dry sense of humor always gave me a good laugh. The book was mysterious and kept me reading - it was a hard one to put down! Even though I haven't read Blue Blood (the first book in the series) I had no troubles with the story line. I will definitely be reading Blue Blood next!

I listened to the audiobook. I really enjoyed the pace. Never boring. Only a minor critique: Pip seems a little one dimensional, maybe. I understand being driven, being captivated by a project. But I never quite got her initial passion for deciding to investigate the case initially. She was so wrapped up in it immediately, that there wasn't much room for her to intensify her involvement as she learned more.

I really love murder mysteries although they do mostly follow the same structure where by; a murder is committed the detective interviews all the suspects, follows leads and then finally reveals who the murder is, possibly whilst in danger. But in The Good Girl's Guide to Murder I couldn't help but keep going back and forth between who I thought was doing the killing. This is what kept my attention throughout the entire book. Who did it?, was something I kept asking myself and I loved the twists in the book. I always like a book that keeps me guessing even through there is a clear cut path to who will be murdered. In a The Good Girl's Guide to Murder, Susan McBride instead starts by indicating who may end up being murdered and what motives other people might have to do this then 3/4 of the way through the book she stages the murder and what a . This alternative structure allows McBride to show a more rounded character regarding the murder victim who is so disliked from the start that I was sure she would end up dead.Although this novel falls short in it's category, it's characters and pace kept me interested until the end. I really didn't want it to stop reading it once I started. I knew many solutions to the twists long before they were revealed in the text, but there were still enough mystery elements left to surprise me. I enjoyed the delightful characters, their Texas-sized humor, and the sometimes lively story, but it still lacked something.Overall this book has engaging characters and is easy get into, but I did find the actual mystery easy to solve as the clues were not very well hidden and some vital motives were alluded to repeatedly. This book is good for someone looking to try something different, but not radically different from the other mystery books out there. It is not as suspenseful as works by other mystery writers, but a great addition to the genre. To read my full review, you can go here: http://www.rudemom.com/2013/01/the-go...

I'm always up for a good mystery, and I'm also always up for a book that had a strong female protagonist that I can relate to. This book had both. Andy Kendricks is awesome! She's smart. She's sassy. She defies her mother's expectations for her. She flies into a jealous rage at her boyfriend at one point. She's compassionate, and of course, she solves the mystery. On top of that the mystery is good. Marilee Marby is launching a new Martha Stewart-esque show, but strange things keep happening on the set culminating in a fire at the studio during the launch party, and Marilee's daughter, Kendall being found on the set passed out. From there things escalate quickly, and somebody winds up dead. The twists and turns just keep coming until the end of the novel when the killer is revealed. I was shocked at who had actually done it and why. Sad shocked. I highly recommend this book for those who love a good mystery and a strong female character.

Andy Kendricks was born with a silver spoon in her mouth but she spit it out as soon as could. She didn't reject her life, but she wanted to be more than a charity hostess. She's a web designer for non-profits. But when her mother asks her to help her best friend, Andy can't say no. The friend, Marilee Mabry, has hit it big as the next Martha Stewart but behind the scenes she is self-involved and narcissistic. Her 18 year old daughter desperately wants her mother's attention but doesn't plan on being diagnosed with a genetic heart defect wasn't what she planned. When Marilee's debut party with live streaming turns into a disaster and Marilee's daughter is left for dead, it becomes clear that someone does not want Marilee to succeed. I liked the characters, the Texas feel was natural and I hope to read more in the series.

The second of the Debutante Dropout series. A good light mystery! Andrea Kendricks is a website designer and amatuer slueth. Her mom is high society in Dallas and Andrea is not into that scene at all in fact she refused to make her debut several years ago and even tho she has a trust fund she chooses to work to support herself. This adventure involves Andrea designing a website for a TV domestic diva as a favor to her mother. And the fireworks begin leading to all sorts of unhappy endings for many people.

Andy finds herself developing the website for the next Martha Stewart. However, strange accidents are befalling the egoistical star. Who has it in for her? The first quarter of the book is very slow, but once the story picks up and action and characters are great.Read my full review at Carstairs Considers.

Another fluffy mystery by one of my new favorite authors. Not a whole ton of character development in this one, which kind of surprised me given Andy’s relationship with Malone, but perhaps that’s coming up next. Whatever the case, it was refreshing to have a mystery that didn’t have a side story about falling in love. Andy was already taken, so the focus really got to be more on the mystery itself. While fairly predictable this time around, it still was an enjoyable read.
