Soon, their beliefs collided with a world beyond their understanding. The solutions they offered–taken from America’s playbook on poverty–failed to bring real answers.
“Everyone knows homelessness is about the lack of housing, jobs, and money, so why question it?” Yet, after watching the same people fall back into homelessness, the Paynes had no choice. They had to find answers.
To their amazement, the answers God provided came through unlikely people.
“What’s this love of Jesus you’re talking about? I have been loved in every position known to man.”
Now, two decades later … after hundreds of stories and thousands of hours working on the frontlines of homelessness, the Paynes claim: The war on poverty in America has been won.
Unlocking a Broken World uncovers a world of mystery. With unforgettable people and inspiring stories, the Paynes challenge you to rethink how you love people and do ministry. One thing is for sure: you will never look at “the least of these” in the same way.

Men in America have not been feminized at all…they have been emasculated. Men don’t feel a need to be more like women…they just have lost their identity as men.”
This book begins with the true story told by a washed up minister whom God forgave, healed, restored, and reenlisted in his service. The real story lies, however, with a few men who, discontented with the detachment of men in their church and inspired by the Holy Spirit, discovered a pathway to reengagement as God’s man in this hour … or maybe real engagement for the very first time.
Welcome to Warrior Boot Camp! With this audiobook, listeners will take a journey through a season of breaking down and shredding of the things of this world that have insidiously crept like tendrils into our hearts and minds. They will then explore the practical military view, including strategies and tactics, that is pervasive throughout scripture, regarding our calling to engage and win the spiritual war against our three foes: the world system, the carnal human nature, and the demonic spiritual realm led by Satan.
The second half of the book builds listeners up with the understanding of how to dress for success in the Kingdom by “putting on” and effectively fighting in God’s armor (Ephesians 6). Warriors must be expert in weaponry and the invisible war of the Spirit is not the exception but the rule.
The real hero of this warrior saga is Gideon. Listeners will get into his shoes as he hides in the wine press … and then into his head and, finally, his heart as he is transformed from fearful farmer to mighty warrior. Together we will explore the common threads of manhood as lived out by the greatest warrior in Israel’s history.
In these pages the truths of walking in the sustainable freedom all men yearn for are unlocked. Join Gideon as he becomes the man God dreamed when He made him … and receive, with him, God’s new name for you: Mighty Warrior!

These teachings are as relevant today as when Jesus first spoke them 2000 years ago.

Do you want to love your neighbor as yourself but don’t know where to start? This practical, accessible guide to bridging the dividing lines of politics, race, and economics, both individually and as the church, will help you amplify Jesus in your community and build God’s kingdom.
When asked what the greatest commandment is, Jesus gave a two-part answer: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” and also “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Love God. Love others.
Jesus’ simple command to love your neighbor can feel overwhelming when your neighbor looks, lives, and votes differently than you do. Racial and economic tensions across the country have resulted in deep dividing lines that seem really intimidating to cross.
Docusen breaks down these lines in approachable chapters, including topics like these:
- how to actively seek out people you can benefit and encourage,
- what it means to find a diverse and supportive community that fulfills needs,
- examples of real-life experiences, including highlights and missteps of Docusen’s ongoing journey, and
- how churches can teach on difficult topics with grace and truth.
Neighborliness is a practical guide to bridging those dividing lines and learning to recognize and amplify the beauty of God in our communities. Backed by David’s speaking and training through the Neighborliness Center, this book will help individuals and churches reach out to their neighbors, love them through Christ, and build God’s kingdom.

So theWhen Jesus left the planet, he left a simple directive in his apprentice’s ears: take me to the world, bring them into the family, and teach them to obey me… and don’t worry I’ll be with you every step of the way. So the system was turned on its ear. Instead of “Bring the people to me” Jesus said, “Take me to the people”. This book highlights the imperative need for the Church of Jesus Christ to be a sending culture, taking Jesus to the people who desperately need him. It focuses specifically on the awesome responsibility the blessed church of the West has in this regard to reach out globally. When Pete Briscoe arrived at Bent Tree they had “prophecy conferences.” Desiring to focus on the part of the puzzle that we can actually do something about (the great commission) they immediately shifted the emphasis to a Mission Festival. At that time they were investing just $36,000 per year in world missions, and all but one of their missionaries was on American soil. They implemented Faith Promise giving, gave opportunities for mission partners to make compelling presentations, included mission moments in their worship services, brought in mission experts to speak at a mission festival, increased giving to over $1 million annually, gave 10% of expansion giving ($2.6 million) to the world church, adopted the world’s largest unreached people group and have a desire to see a church planted in every one of the 200,000 villages in the region, and much more…This book is necessary because the American church has forgotten this simple truth: “the church of Jesus Christ exists primarily for the benefit of its non-members.” The Seeker Movement helped to remind Evangelicals of the need to reach out to Seekers, but the model was a replica of the “Bring to” Model of the Old Testament. Pete Briscoe realized early in his pastorate that people in his church viewed evangelism as, “bring them to church to hear Pete.” While obviously there are times when this is a healthy strategy to reach the lost, we are missing the mark if it becomes the dominant method. Add to this, the minimal concern for the vast regions of the world that still have yet to hear of the gospel, and the burgeoning numbers of church leaders around the planet that have little or no theological training, and you start to get a feel for the angst and concern that drives this project. There is an imperative need for an awakening in the Western church to see beyond the boundaries not only of our Church Building, but of our Community as well. We have turned a “blind eye” in attempting to reach our communities. The author would like to encourage us to turn a “kind eye” to those outside our sphere of influence who are inside our ability to touch. This is a call from a Pastor to the Church to “Lift up their eyes (again) to see the harvest.” Here’s what readers can receive from the book:* Examples of a church that has kept mission at the front and seen God do amazing things as a result. * Detailed and simple processes to help church leaders implement some simple strategies to change the culture in their church.* Help to create a paradigm shift in fund raising for missions.* Opened eyes to the enormous need and incredible potential impact the American church has.* Demonstration of how to grow children and youth with a heart for the world.* A workable model from Acts 1:8. Acts 1:8 providing a good framework for strategic expansion. Many churches today are focusing on the Jerusalem piece and the Judea part is covered with the new multi-site phenomenon. But what does a Samaria strategy look like and how do we impact the ends of the earth? Acts 1:8 keeps all four spheres before us.* Sharing of the personal journey of a pastor who leads a mission minded church.* Practical and usable tools such as a grid for evaluation potential missionaries, an evaluation process for current mission partners, mobilization techniques for keeping a church connected to her m

Men in thousands of churches across the world know there is more to faith than just attending church — they know there is the potential to walk in Christ’s image, live in Christ’s image, and work to spread Christ’s word. But the one big question they are all asking is how? The Spirit of God is compelling them to seek the answer. This book is the gateway to answering that question.
The authors spent years struggling to build a life of meaning before realizing their depravity and asking the questions: “What does it mean to be a godly man, and how can I become one?” The Spirit answered by sending men into their lives to disciple them, not with disdain or judgment, but with love and compassion, a gospel-centered focus. These men walked alongside them in the messiness of life, helping them to apply Biblical truths and spiritual disciplines in a challenging world. From their own personal journeys, out of the abyss, the authors have written this book.
Here you will learn to:BUILD a one-on-one relationship CREATE a culture of men who support each other LOOK TO CHRIST and find what obstacles are blocking you TRANSFORM your life seeing the Gospel advance through the discipling of other men.Real-Life Discipleship: The Ordinary Man’s Guide to Disciple-Making offers a gateway from confusion to clarity, from struggle to transformation.

Once upon a time there was a version of the Christian faith that was practically irresistible. After all, what could be more so than the gospel that Jesus ushered in? Why, then, isn’t it the same with Christianity today?
Author and pastor Andy Stanley is deeply concerned with the present-day church and its future. He believes that many of the solutions to our issues can be found by investigating our roots. In Irresistible, Andy chronicles what made the early Jesus Movement so compelling, resilient, and irresistible by answering these questions:
- What did first-century Christians know that we don’t‚Äîabout God’s Word, about their lives, about love?
- What did they do that we’re not doing?
- What makes Christianity so resistible in today’s culture?
- What needs to change in order to repeat the growth our faith had at its beginning?
Many people who leave or disparage the faith cite reasons that have less to do with Jesus than with the conduct of his followers. It’s time to hit pause and consider the faith modeled by our first-century brothers and sisters who had no official Bible, no status, and little chance of survival. It’s time to embrace the version of faith that initiated‚Äîagainst all human odds‚Äîa chain of events resulting in the most significant and extensive cultural transformation the world has ever seen.
This is a version of Christianity we must remember and re-embrace if we want to be salt and light in an increasingly savorless and dark world.

A church’s philosophy of ministry is locked into its budget, and so the budget will either stifle or accelerate any attempts to move a congregation toward a biblical model of church health. As such, the church budget is a far more potent pastoral tool than many church leaders realize. Budgeting for a Healthy Church examines each section of the budget in light of Biblical principles to show how a church budget can lock in healthy approaches to ministry. Whereas most books on church budgeting are “how” books, explaining how the budgeting process should work, this is a “what” book, helping church leaders determine the pastoral implications of what they choose to fund in their budgets.

The joy and vigor coming from a collective strength, intelligence, and skill in the community of leaders not only brings greater potency but better yields for your ministry. What would it be like to see this kind of healthy leadership reproduced into the second, third, and fourth generation, on multiple strands?
Leveraging the metaphor Ori Brafman popularized in his NYT best-selling book, The Starfish and the Spider, Rob Wegner, Lance Ford, and Alan Hirsch show:
- How to take a close look at your church’s organizational structure and how to adapt instead of simply adopt a certain kind of structural approach.
- How churches can function without a rigid central authority, making them nimbler in reacting to external forces.
- How seeding starfish networks inside today’s churches will prepare the church of tomorrow to be agile while maintaining the accountability to be effective.
The Starfish and the Spirit is about creating a culture where church leaders view themselves as curators of a community on a mission, not the source of certainty for every question and project. It’s about creating a team of humble leaders “in the middle” of the church, not at the top–leaders who naturally reproduce multiple generations of leaders, from the middle out.

Unpack the instruction for church leaders found in 1 Peter 5:1-4, where they are exhorted to shepherd the flock among them.
Some instruction is timeless. Regardless of the age in which we live, certain instruction carries no expiration on its relevance. The best practical advice comes from the Bible, and in particular, 1 Peter 5:1-4. It’s in this short passage where leaders are exhorted to shepherd the flock among them.
Unfortunately, most modern leaders have precious little experience tending sheep, and many of the implications that were well understood when Peter penned these words are lost on today’s listener. Pastor, author, and leadership consultant Larry Osborne finds the parallels to be numerous, well-worth reviewing and understanding anew.
In Lead Like a Shepherd, Osborne discovered that instruction on how to be a good leader is like the passage about Peter, with such lessons as:
- A shepherd leads them to water even when they fear it,
- A shepherd never allows one sick lamb to destroy the flock,
- And a shepherd lays down his life for his sheep.
Lead Like a Shepherd discusses how when leaders truly understand Peter’s words of exhortation to lead like a shepherd, then they will begin to see the path that leads them to leading like a shepherd.

In this enlightening biography, Joseph Telushkin offers a captivating portrait of the late Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, a towering figure who saw beyond conventional boundaries to turn his movement, Chabad-Lubavitch, into one of the most dynamic and widespread organizations ever seen in the Jewish world. At once an incisive work of history and a compendium of Rabbi Schneerson’s teachings, Rebbe is the definitive guide to understanding one of the most vital, intriguing figures of the last centuries.
From his modest headquarters in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, the Rebbe advised some of the world’s greatest leaders and shaped matters of state and society. Statesmen and artists as diverse as Ronald Reagan, Robert F. Kennedy, Yitzchak Rabin, Menachem Begin, Elie Wiesel, and Bob Dylan span the spectrum of those who sought his counsel. Rebbe explores Schneerson’s overarching philosophies against the backdrop of treacherous history, revealing his clandestine operations to rescue and sustain Jews in the Soviet Union, and his critical role in the expansion of the food stamp program throughout the United States. More broadly, it examines how he became in effect an ambassador for Jews globally, and how he came to be viewed by many as not only a spiritual archetype but a savior. Telushkin also delves deep into the more controversial aspects of the Rebbe’s leadership, analyzing his views on modern science and territorial compromise in Israel, and how in the last years of his life, many of his followers believed that he would soon be revealed as the Messiah, a source of contention until this day.

In fact, the vast majority of Christians report that they have never been personally discipled by a more mature follower of Jesus. Is it any wonder that they have a difficult time knowing how to disciple others?
If making disciples of Jesus is the greatest cause on earth, how should we equip people to do it? This handbook is a practical guide for how to embrace the discipleship lifestyle – being a disciple of Jesus and how to make other disciples of Jesus. With contributions from pastors and teachers like Francis Chan, Jeff Vanderstelt, Bill Hull, Jim Putman, KP Yohannan, and Robert Coleman, the authors present seven elements that are necessary for disciple making to occur:
- Jesus—the original disciple maker and centerpiece of discipleship.
- Holy Spirit—fuels the disciple-making process.
- Intentionality—making disciples utilizing a strategy and a roadmap.
- Relationships—creating a loving, genuine connection with others who trust and follow Jesus.
- Bible—using the Word of God as the manual for making disciples.
- Journey—forging a traceable growth story from a new birth to spiritual parenthood.
- Multiply—reproducing the discipleship process so that the disciple becomes a disciple maker.
Whether you are a parent who wants to disciple your children, a small group leader who wants to disciple those in your group, or a church leader who wants to disciple future leaders, the seven key elements in this handbook form a framework for understanding discipleship that can be applied in countless situations. In addition, there are questions provided in each section to help you think through how to apply the material to your disciple making efforts.
Accompanying charts and reflection questions are available in the audiobook companion PDF download.

In this 30-day guide, Pastor Tim Timberlake shares the moving story of how he learned to celebrate the importance and blessing of each of the 1,440 minutes we are given every day.
The son of a preacher, eighteen-year-old Tim Timberlake learned to appreciate the extraordinary value and gift of each minute of every day the hard way through the tragic and sudden loss of his father. Tim began a journey to not just get through each day, but to exhaust every opportunity of potential of that day, moment by moment, fulfilling his God-given purpose. Now a pastor himself, Tim inspires others to approach each day in a way that they live out their own God-given purposes and passions.
Comprised of thirty bite-size chapters designed to be read over 30 days, The Power of 1440 is a day-by-day manual of encouragement, including strategies to:
- Shift your mindset from mundane to miraculous
- Understand the first step to becoming great is being grateful
- Forgive those who hurt you and free yourself to be fully alive
- Stop focusing on who you were and zero in on who you are becoming
Every day should be magnificent, not mundane; filled with delight, not drudgery; and a grand adventure, not a grind. In The Power of 1440, Pastor Tim shows how it is possible to make today—and every day—truly remarkable.

He deftly examines both the external challenges we face and the internal resistance that holds us back. Bolsinger writes: “To temper describes the process of heating, holding, hammering, cooling, and reheating that adds stress to raw iron until it becomes a glistening knife blade or chisel tip.” When reflection and relationships are combined into a life of deliberate practice, leaders become both stronger and more flexible. As a result, these resilient leaders are able to offer greater wisdom and skill to the organizations they serve.

An “attractional” model seeks to attract people to a local church. Younger leaders may advocate a more “missional” approach, in which believers live and work among unchurched people and intentionally seek to serve like Christ. While each of these approaches have merit, something is still missing, something even more fundamental to the mission of the church: discipleship. Making disciples–helping people to trust and follow Jesus–is the church’s God-given mandate. Discipleship empowers Christians to be more like Christ, and devoted disciples attract people outside the church because of the change others see in them. DiscipleShift walks pastors and church leaders through the five key “shifts” that churches must make to refocus on that biblical mission. These intentional changes will attract the world and empower believers to be salt and light in their communities.

In The Unstuck Church, Morgan unpacks each phase of the church lifecycle and offers specific and strategic next steps church leaders can take to find the way to sustained health-to finally become unstuck. But few are actually bearing fruit.
Kevin Harney diagnoses this problem and offers guidance for multiplying the outreach impact of churches.
Organic Outreach for Churches provides direction for local congregations to weave evangelism into the fabric of the church. Commitment to the Great Commission is not simply about sending money and prayers to missions or holding occasional events to reach out (although these things are good). Organic outreach happens when evangelistic vision and action become the domain of every ministry and the commitment of every person in the congregation. This will not happen accidentally. There is huge spiritual and practical resistance to such changes. But the only way evangelism will become an organic part of a church is when every leader and each member is gripped by a commitment to proclaiming the gospel.
This book is a roadmap for pastors and leaders who wish to infuse evangelistic passion into every aspect of their church’s life.

Recent studies show that 40-50 percent of kids who are connected to a youth group throughout their senior year will fail to stick with their faith in college. As youth workers are pouring their time and energy into the students in their ministries, they are often left wondering if they’ve done enough to equip their students to carry their faith into adulthood. Fuller Youth Institute has done extensive research in the area of youth ministry and teenage development.
In Sticky Faith, the team at FYI presents youth workers with both a theological/philosophical framework and practical programming ideas that develop long-term faith in teenagers. Each chapter presents a summary of FYI’s quantitative and qualitative research, along with the implications of this research, including program ideas suggested and tested by youth ministries nationwide. This resource will give youth pastors what they need to help foster a faith that sticks with all the teenagers in their group long after they’ve left the youth room.
