Begin with collection

One thing you can always do is start exploring collections or sub-series. These will allow you to follow the same characters and their stories throughout the Discworld.

The City Watch Collection

The City Watch Collection includes eight books that follow the adventures of Ankh-Morpork City Watch, including Guards! Guards!, Men at Arms, Feet of Clay, Jingo, The Fifth Elephant, Night, Watch, Thud!, and Snuff. This collection features characters such as Sam Vimes, Angua, Carrot, Cheery, Nobby Nobbs, Colon, and others. These books also have unique designs and are illustrated by Joe McLaren.

The Rincewind Collection

The Rincewind Collection focuses on the not-so-great wizard called Rincewind and includes seven books: The Colour of Magic, The Light Fantastic, Sourcery, Eric, Interesting Times, The Last Continent, and The Last Hero.

It is a great starting point that will help you understand more about the characters, themes, and settings of the Discworld.

The Witches Collection

The Witches collection is a set of six books following the Witches of Lancre (Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, Miss Tick, Magrat, and others) consisting of Equal Rites, Wyrd Sisters, Witches Abroad, Lords and Ladies, Maskerade, and Carpe Jugulum.

It is also yet another beautiful collection illustrated by Joe McLaren.

The Death Collection

Death is one of the most important characters in Discworld and a fan favorite. And if you are curious about why Grim Reaper is so beloved, you can always get this collection of five books, including Mort, Reaper Man, Soul Music, Hogfather, and Thief of Time.

In this collection, the main characters are Death, butler Albert, Susan, and others.

The Moist von Lipwig Collection

Moist von Lipwig is an ex-conman, and he appeared as a protagonist in three books. These books are Going Postal, Making Money, and Raising Steam. You can start with this smaller “trilogy” and decide where to go after you’ve read it.

The Tiffany Aching Collection

The final collection on the list focuses on Tiffany Aching, who is a trainee witch in this fantasy series, and includes The Wee Free Men, A Hat Full of Sky, Wintersmith, I Shall Wear Midnight and The Shepherd’s Crown.

Tiffany Aching is just nine years old when she appears in The Wee Free Men and matures over the course of this collection.
