Karin Slaughter books in order
Karin Slaughter is an American writer and the author of more than twenty New York Times bestselling novels. She specializes in crime thrillers and is most known for her Will Trent and Grant County series, as well as Pieces of Her, a standalone novel that got a Netflix adaptation in March 2022.
Who is Karin Slaughter?
Karin Slaughter was born on January 6, 1971, in Georgia, where a lot of work takes place. Slaughter grew up in a rural area, dreaming of becoming a lawyer. Her dreams never became a reality, however, and she found herself owning and running a sign shop until her mid-twenties. It was then that she rediscovered an old passion of hers — writing.
Slaughter first gave writing a shot when she was six years old when she wrote a booklet about her father’s colleague suffering from polio. Recalling her childhood, Slaughter stated it was her father who inspired her love of storytelling. Her passion only became stronger in junior high thanks to Billie Bennett Ward, one of her teachers and first critics who appreciated her work.
Inspired by positive early feedback, Slaughter soldiered through several rejections before her first book and masterpiece, Blindsighted was published in 2001, putting her in the spotlight and setting her on the path that led to more than 35 million copies sold worldwide.
Slaughter is also the founder of the Save the Libraries project, meant to help preserve and support libraries across the country.
Karin Slaughter book series
Karin Slaughter’s pen is restless. She’s written over twenty works, including novels, novellas, and short stories. Some of her titles are standalone, and some can be grouped into series. Down below, we have an overview of all of Slaughter’s books and a list of her publications in chronological order.
Grant County series
The Grant County series is Slaughter’s most famous and most popular work. It’s a collection of six novels featuring the character of Sara Linton, a coroner, and pediatrician from Heartsdale, Georgia, a fictional small town near Atlanta reminiscent of Slaughter’s own home area.
Sara Linton, her ex-husband and chief of police Jeffrey Tolliver, and Lena Adams, a police officer, are all complex but flawed characters. Although the series is a gritty take on crime fiction, much of the story revolves around the relationships the protagonist builds with other characters, giving us insight into Slaughter’s perspective on life in the American South.
The Will Trent series
Will Trent books are Slaughter’s second series. The story spans thirteen volumes, including some novellas, and focuses on the titular character, Will Trent, a special agent in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
The story often explores themes of crime and violence against women. Slaughter has made it clear that one of her goals was to offer a female perspective on sexual assault, rape, and other forms of crime, which usually get depicted by male authors.
The inspiration for many of the stories is drawn from societal issues and news about those in the upper echelon abusing their status to get away with sexual assault and domestic violence.
The series has been adapted into a currently-running TV show by ABC, starring Ramón Rodriguez and Erika Christensen.
Andrea Oliver series
Although both books featuring the titular character of Andrea Oliver, Pieces of Her and Girl, Forgotten, are standalone novels, the recurring main protagonist lets us group them as a pair.
Once more, Slaughter explores the relationships between women and violence, although this time, she introduces themes of motherhood, parenthood, and personal identity.
When the young woman Andrea Oliver witnesses her mother Laura stop a shooter and dispose of him, her life changes forever. Who is her mother? What has she been hiding from her? And who are the people suddenly coming to get her?
Good Daughter series
The Good Daughter series comprises a novel of the same title and a prequel titled Last Breath. The main story focuses on Charlotte Quinn, a lawyer from Pikeville wading a new wave of crime that’s flooded her hometown and brought back memories of her own childhood trauma covered in the prequel. Could the recent tragedy lead her to discover the truth of the events that destroyed her family nearly three decades ago?

Saturday night dates at the skating rink have been a tradition in the small southern town of Heartsdale for as long as anyone can remember, but when a teenage quarrel explodes into a deadly shoot-out, Sara Linton–the town’s pediatrician and medical examiner–finds herself entangled in a terrible tragedy.
What seemed at first to be a horrific but individual catastrophe proves to have wider implications. The autopsy reveals evidence of long-term abuse, of ritualistic self -mutilation, but when Sara and police chief Jeffrey Tolliver start to investigate, they are frustrated at every turn.
The children surrounding the victim close ranks. The families turn their backs. Then a young girl is abducted, and it becomes clear that the first death is linked to an even more brutal crime, one far more shocking than anyone could have imagined. Meanwhile, detective Lena Adams, still recovering from her sister’s death and her own brutal attack, finds herself drawn to a young man who might hold the answers. But unless Lena, Sara, and Jeffrey can uncover the deadly secrets the children hide, it’s going to happen again . . .

“This chilling mystery is just begging to be read in one sitting.”–Cosmopolitan
Broken features the return of New York Times bestselling author Karin Slaughter’s most compelling characters and introduces memorable new ones in a tale of corruption, murder, and confrontation that will leave more than one life destroyed . . .
When Special Agent Will Trent arrives in Grant County, he finds a police department determined to protect its own and far too many unanswered questions about a prisoner’s death. He doesn’t understand why Officer Lena Adams is hiding secrets from him. He doesn’t understand her role in the death of Grant County’s popular police chief. He doesn’t understand why that man’s widow, Dr. Sara Linton, needs him now more than ever to help her crack this case.
While the police force investigates the murder of a young woman pulled from a frigid lake, Trent investigates the police force, putting pressure on Adams just when she’s already about to crack. Caught between two complicated and determined women, trying to understand Linton’s passionate distrust of Adams, the facts surrounding Chief Tolliver’s death, and the complexities of this insular town, Trent will unleash a case filled with explosive secrets–and encounter a thin blue line that could be murderous if crossed.
Spellbinding and keenly paced, Broken is Karin Slaughter at her best. Here is an unforgettable story of raw emotions, dangerous assumptions, the deadly and layered game of betrayal, and a man’s determination to expose the most painful of human truths–no matter how deeply they’re hidden . . . or how devastating.

In New York Times bestselling author Linda Castillo’s new thriller Fallen, a rebellious Amish woman leaves the Plain life, but the secrets she takes with her will lead Chief of Police Kate Burkholder down a dark path to danger and death.
When a young woman is found murdered in a Painters Mill motel, Chief of Police Kate Burkholder is shocked to discover she once knew the victim. Rachael Schwartz was a charming but troubled Amish girl who left the fold years ago and fled Painters Mill. Why was she back in town? And who would kill her so brutally?
Kate remembers Rachael as the only girl who was as bad at being Amish as Kate was–and those parallels dog her. But the more Kate learns about Rachael’s life, the more she’s convinced that her dubious reputation was deserved. As a child, Rachael was a rowdy rulebreaker whose decision to leave devastated her parents and best friend. As an adult, she was charismatic and beautiful, a rabble-rouser with a keen eye for opportunity no matter who got in her way. Her no-holds-barred lifestyle earned her a lot of love and enemies aplenty–both English and Amish.
As the case heats to a fever pitch and long-buried secrets resurface, a killer haunts Painters Mill. Someone doesn’t want Rachael’s past–or the mysteries she took with her to the grave–coming to light. As Kate digs deeper, violence strikes again, this time hitting close to home. Will Kate uncover the truth and bring a murderer to justice? Or will a killer bent on protecting a terrible past stop her once and for all–and let the fallen be forgotten?

Detectives, lovers, and enemies are pitted against one another in an unforgettable standoff between righteous courage and deepest evil from New York Times bestselling author Karin Slaughter.
Will Trent is a Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent whose latest case has him posing as Bill Black, a scary ex-con who rides a motorcycle around Macon, Georgia, and trails an air of violence wherever he goes. The cover has worked and he has caught the eye of a wiry little drug dealer who thinks he might be a useful ally. But undercover and cut off from the support of the woman he loves, Sara Linton, Will finds his demons catching up with him.
Although she has no idea where Will has gone, or why, Sara herself has come to Macon because of a cop shooting; her stepson, Jared, has been gunned down in his own home. Sara holds Lena, Jared’s wife, responsible. Lena, a detective, has been a magnet for trouble all her life, and Jared’s shooting is not the first time someone Sara loved got caught in the crossfire. Furious, Sara finds herself involved in the same case that Will is working without even knowing it, and soon danger is swirling around both of them.
In a novel of fierce intensity, shifting allegiances, and shocking twists, two investigations collide with a conspiracy straddling both sides of the law. Unseen is both an electrifying thriller and a piercing study of human nature: what happens when good people face the unseen evils in their lives.

A chilling psychological thriller about a marriage, a way of life, and how far one woman will go to keep what is rightfully hers
Jodi and Todd are at a bad place in their marriage. Much is at stake, including the affluent life they lead in their beautiful waterfront condo in Chicago, as she, the killer, and he, the victim, rush haplessly toward the main event. Told in alternating voices, The Silent Wife is about a marriage in the throes of dissolution, a couple headed for catastrophe, concessions that can’t be made, and promises that won’t be kept. Check out Speechify Audiobooks and listen to Blindsighted and A Faint Cold Fear, narrated by Kathleen Early, Cleaning the Gold, narrated by Eric Jason Martin, and Slaughter’s other works, both in English and Spanish.
