Michel Connelly’s Lincoln Lawyer books in order
Michael Connelly is an American author of legal thrillers. His most notable work is novels featuring LAPD detective Hieronymus Harry Bosch and defense attorney Mickey Haller.
Michael Connelly was the second oldest child, born on July 21, 1956 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He originally intended to dedicate his future career to building construction and thus started attending the University of Florida but could never find a passion for it.
Luckily for crime fiction lovers, he discovered his interest in writing and transferred to the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications.
An introduction to Michael Connelly’s Writings
Upon graduating in 1980, Connelly initially worked as a crime beat writer for Daytona Beach News-Journal until 1986, when he received Pulitzer Prize for a story about Delta Flight 191.
Success had brought Michael Connelly employment for the Los Angeles Times as a crime reporter. In 1992 he published his first book, The Black Echo, which brought him Mystery Writers of America’s Edgar Award for a first book that same year.
Harry Bosch series
The Harry Bosch series follows Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch, an LAPD detective that first appeared in The Black Echoes (1992) novel. The Harry Bosch books follow his story during and post his LAPD career, as well as learning about his past as a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Over the multiple novels, LAPD detective Harry Bosch has worked on various cases and even as a private investigator for his younger half-brother Mickey Haller.
Harry Bosch also makes an appearance in multiple Mickey Haller books, The Brass Verdict, The Reversal, and The Law of Innocence. He is also announced to be one of the main characters in the upcoming novel the Resurrection Walk.
Mickey Haller series
Defense attorney Mickey Haller is a defense lawyer who is willing to provide criminal defense to most people, whether they are drug dealers or suspected killers. We get to meet Mickey in the 2005 Lincoln Lawyer novel. In the series, we get to see him navigate the streets and courts of LA while using his skills of persuasion and manipulation to find a way to defend his clients—and himself.
Aside from his books, he makes an appearance in Harry Bosch’s books Nine Dragons, The Crossing, The Wrong Side of Goodbye, The Two Kinds of Truth, and The Night Fire, with a brief appearance in Desert Star.
Jack McEvoy series
Jack McEvoy is a literal character created by Michael Connelly and who made his first appearance in the novel The Poet (1996).
He made appearances in Bosch’s novel A Darkness More Than Night (2001) and Mickey Haller’s novel The Brass Verdict (2008)
Terry McCaleb series
Terry McCaleb is a character in the Blood Works (1998) novel, a mystery thriller, and who once made an appearance in A Darkness More Than Night (2001) and The Narrows (2004).
Blood Works has been used as a basis for a movie of the same name that was published in 2002 with Clint Eastwood.
Lincoln Lawyer series
The Lincoln Lawyer series is a collection of 37 novels following multiple characters and their journeys as they navigate the US judicial system and the underground of Los Angeles and Hollywood. Whether that is as individuals or together, that is up to readers to discover as they follow the story.
Renee Ballard series

After taking on a foreclosure case, defense attorney Mickey Haller must prove his client’s innocence — but first he must follow a trail of black market evidence to its sinister end.
Mickey puts his team into high gear to exonerate Lisa Trammel, even though the evidence and his own suspicions tell him his client is guilty. Soon after he learns that the victim had black market dealings of his own, Haller is assaulted, too — and he’s certain he’s on the right trail.
Despite the danger and uncertainty, Haller mounts the best defense of his career in a trial where the last surprise comes after the verdict is in. Connelly proves again why he “may very well be the best novelist working in the United States today” (San Francisco Chronicle). -

Defense attorney Mickey Haller is forced to bend the law until it breaks when he is hired to defend a man accused of killing a prostitute in this novel of courtroom suspense, the “best one yet” (The Washington Post).
When Mickey learns that the victim was his own former client, a prostitute he thought he had rescued and put on the straight and narrow path, he knows he is on the hook for this one. He soon finds out that she was back in LA and back in the life. Far from saving her, Mickey may have been the one who put her in danger.
Haunted by the ghosts of his past, Mickey must work tirelessly and bring all his skill to bear on a case that could mean his ultimate redemption or proof of his ultimate guilt. The Gods of Guilt shows once again why “Michael Connelly excels, easily surpassing John Grisham in the building of courtroom suspense” (Los Angeles Times). -

Lincoln Lawyer Mickey Haller is back on the job in this heart-stopping thriller from a renowned #1 New York Times bestselling author.
“One of the finest legal thrillers of the last decade” –Associated Press
On the night he celebrates a big win, defense attorney Mickey Haller is pulled over by police, who find the body of a former client in the trunk of his Lincoln. Haller is immediately charged with murder but can’t post the exorbitant $5 million bail slapped on him by a vindictive judge.
Mickey elects to represent himself and is forced to mount his defense from his jail cell in the Twin Towers Correctional Center in downtown Los Angeles. All the while he needs to look over his shoulder–as an officer of the court he is an instant target, and he makes few friends when he reveals a corruption plot within the jail.
But the bigger plot is the one against him. Haller knows he’s been framed, whether by a new enemy or an old one. As his trusted team, including his half-brother, Harry Bosch, investigates, Haller must use all his skills in the courtroom to counter the damning evidence against him.
Even if he can obtain a not-guilty verdict, Mickey understands that it won’t be enough. In order to be truly exonerated, he must find out who really committed the murder and why. That is the law of innocence.
In his highest stakes case yet, the Lincoln Lawyer fights for his life and proves again why he is “a worthy colleague of Atticus Finch . . . in the front of the pack in the legal thriller game” (Los Angeles Times).
