Plunderer

Plunderer

Plunderer (プランダラ) is a 2014 shōnen manga written by Suu Minazuki and published by Yen Press. As a shōnen, its target audience is mostly teenage boys. However, due to it being so good, Plunderer has an even wider fan base. And thanks to its popularity, it’s even got an anime adaptation produced by Geek Toys, and it ran throughout 2020. So, let’s check it out in more detail.

Understanding the popular manga and anime series—Plunderer by Suu Minazuki

The storyline of Plunderer takes place in Alcia—a post-apocalyptic world. In Alcia, every human has their worth measured by a count that’s imprinted on their body. The lesser the count, the lower the person’s status in society. And those whose count drops to zero are dragged into the Abyss, a place where they suffer until the end of time.

The protagonist of Plunderer is Hina, a young woman with an initial count of 441. After her mother’s disappearance into the Abyss, she is left alone with a sphere of a high count, searching for a mysterious figure named Legendary Ace. Eventually, she meets Licht Bach, a masked stranger with a negative 999 count. After a couple of twists and turns, it is revealed that he is the Legendary Ace who saves her from a hostile group of Alcian army men.

Plunderer got an anime adaptation in 2020. The animation was done by Geek Toys, and the English dub version was distributed by Funimation. The anime version is famous for its soundtrack. Some of the more memorable songs and themes include the opening theme Kokou no Hikari Lonely Dark, Rina Honnizumi’s Countless Days, and Ari Ozawa’s Reason of Life.
