How to watch the Naruto series in order

If you are interested in checking out Naruto, you should know the watch order of tv shows and movies. Here’s what you need to know about Naruto and his ninja pals.

An overview of the Naruto anime

Naruto is one of the biggest Japanese series of all time, at least when it comes to people who love anime. And if you are a fan, you already know the story of Naruto Uzumaki, Kakashi, Shikamaru Nara, Sasuke Uchiha, Akatsuki, Sakura Haruno, Hinata Hyuga, Madara, and others.

There are 220 episodes in the series, and they are divided into five seasons. The release dates of the episodes were between 2002 and 2007. The anime is based on the manga of the same name, and it was written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto.

The first part follows Naruto in his pre-teen years, while the second one focuses on his teenage years. Naruto is a young ninja, and he dreams of becoming the Hokage. Naruto, One Piece, and Dragon Ball became popular worldwide, licensed by Crunchyroll, Viz Media, Hulu, etc.

In what order should I watch Naruto series?

If you are wondering about the order of the series, the simplest way is to start at the beginning and follow all 220 episodes. But there is another thing worth mentioning. The anime also includes a couple of movies (OVAs), and the story of the movies is set in between episodes.

Those that are looking to experience the entire story of Naruto should take a different approach. Of course, if you don’t mind spoilers, you can both read the manga and watch anime.

Chronological order of Naruto anime series

If you are interested in the full story and becoming a part of the fandom, you should check out the following lists. You should also choose whether you want to watch the series with subtitles or dub.

Naruto original series

The original series mentioned earlier includes 220 episodes of anime, and there are three movies you should check out. This will give you a full story of the character, and it is one of the best series you will watch.

Since there are no seasons you can follow, you will need to jump between the series and movies. The story covers Naruto’s pre-teen years, Chunin Exams, Konoha the hidden leaf village, and others.

  • Naruto (1-101)
  • Naruto The Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow
  • Naruto (102-160)
  • Naruto The Movie: The Legend of the Stone of Gelel
  • Naruto (161-196)
  • Naruto The Movie: Guardians of the Crescent Moon Kingdom
  • Naruto (197-220)

This will cover the entire anime, but it is far from being the only version of Naruto you can check out. Other movies include The Day Naruto Became Hokage, Find the Four-Leaf Red Clover, and many others.

Naruto Shippuden

Naruto Shippuden is the second part of the series, and it covers Naruto’s teen years. This means that the second half of the manga is adapted into this show. It is also a continuation of the original Naruto franchise, and there are even more episodes.

  • Naruto: Shippuden (1-32)
  • Naruto Shippuden: The Movie
  • Naruto: Shippuden (33-71)
  • Naruto Shippuden The Movie: Bonds
  • Naruto: Shippuden (72-126)
  • Naruto Shippuden The Movie: The Will of Fire
  • Naruto: Shippuden (127-143)
  • Naruto Shippuden: The Lost Tower
  • Naruto: Shippuden (144-196)
  • Naruto Shippuden The Movie: Blood Prison
  • Naruto: Shippuden (197-251)
  • Naruto The Movie: Road to Ninja
  • Naruto: Shippuden (252-493)
  • The Last: Naruto The Movie
  • Naruto: Shippuden (494-500)

Needless to say, the second part of the series is significantly bigger, and you will need to go through the entire collection if you want to see the full story.

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is another spin-off story, and while it was published in 2016, the events follow Naruto’s son. It is also based on manga, and there are 293 episodes in this series.

It is worth mentioning that Boruto anime is not yet finished, and the last couple of episodes will be available in March 2023. As for the Boruto manga, it started in 2016, and there are still issues coming out on a monthly basis (in the weekly Shonen Jump magazine).

There is also a movie in the series called Boruto: Naruto the Movie.

Naruto books

Besides the original run of Naruto, which was published between 1999 and 2014, there are other novels focusing on the same character. In fact, there are twenty-six light novels based on the famous manga.

The first few issues were written by Masatoshi Kusakabe, and they are only available in Japan. Some of the stories, such as Sasuke Shinden and Itachi Shinden, were adapted into anime, and they were a part of Naruto Shippuden episodes in 2016.

There are also additional spin-offs of the original series, including Naruto SD: Rock Lee no Seishun Full-Power Ninden, Naruto: The Cross Roads, etc.
