Available for the first time on CD, ten more delightful stories from the pen of the world’s most beloved veterinarian—a perfect gift book guaranteed to delight the Yorkshire vet’s worldwide legions of fans.
When you enter the world of James Herriot’s Animal Stories, you’ll share his wonder and humor, his adventures and misadventures as he contends with pet owners and landowners; rough-spoken farmers and soft-spoken gentry; orphaned lambs, litters of piglets and puppies, cattle and draught horses; and a miscellany of cats and dogs including, of course, Mrs. Pumphrey’s inimitable Pekinese, Tricki Woo.
JAMES HERRIOT lived in Yorkshire, England. His son has now taken over the veterinary practice. Herriot’s international bestsellers were All Creatures Great and Small, All Things Bright and Beautiful, All Things Wise and Wonderful, The Lord God Made Them All and Every Living Thing. He was also the author of numerous collections of short stories and a series of illustrated books for children. Dr. Herriot died in February, 1995.
Christopher Timothy starred as James Herriot in All Creatures Great and Small, the internationally renowned BBC television series based on Herriot’s work. A veteran of stage, screen, and television, he is a winner of the prestigious Sir John Gielgud Scholarship and the Sir Laurence Olivier Award. He also co-produced and starred in a critically acclaimed film version of James Herriot’s Yorkshire. Christopher has also appeared on screen in The Bill, Doctors, Casualty, and Hamlet, to name a few. He narrated a number of titles by James Herriot for Macmillan Audio, including the Earphones Award-winning All Things Wise and Wonderful.
“Reader Christopher Timothy portrayed the semi-fictional Yorkshire veterinarian James Herriot in the wonderful BBC television series “All Creatures Great and Small” and has recorded versions of Herriot’s work in such productions as the abridged Every Living Thing, (Audio Renaissance, 1993). He’s just as good a reader as he is an actor. His cultured British voice twinkles with humor and shades into heartwarming emotion as appropriate. The stories of the animal doctor’s vicissitudes with a variety of animals are kind and affecting; Timothy makes the characters real and well individuated. With his crystal articulation, he is marvelous, and so is the music from the television series.” —AudioFile
