Gray Man books in order

Mark Greaney’s most famous work, the Gray Man book series, follows the story of a former CIA operative, professional intelligence serviceman, and killer.

From the first book to the last, the author does meticulous research about real-world organizations, crimes, and weapons to integrate into the story. These exceptional storytelling abilities have helped the Gray Man rise to popularity in the form of a Netflix movie.

If you’re new to Gray Man and want to give it a good start, check out the list of the books in the series presented in order of publication.

The Gray Man reading list

The Gray Man

Court Gentry, or Gray Man, is a covert realm legend and an ex-CIA agent. He silently switches jobs, makes the impossible possible, and then disappears. Above all else, he never misses his target.

However, money and power are two forces that seem to be more lethal than him. Some men are only guided by these two and find the Gray Man useless. But Gray Man is willing to do all it takes to stay alive.

On Target

Court Gentry’s life is in the crosshairs when his old friend returns from the dead. The man wants Gray Man to go on a tough kidnapping mission.

Ballistic

After a nearly-suicidal CIA mission, the Gray Man seeks refuge in the Amazon rainforest. But it’s not long before a Russian crime lord finds him and sends him on another mission. Only this time, many things have changed.

Dead Eye

In the fourth book, Court Gentry has to deal with an enemy he’s never faced before - a killer as dangerous as himself. The killer’s code name is Dead Eye, and he graduated from the same training center as Gentry.

Back Blast

After being put at the top of the CIA’s killing list, Court decides to investigate the reasons. He is determined to find the people who sent him on a Back Blast mission.

Gunmetal Gray

Court Gentry is back in the CIA after five years on the run. But the first mission makes him regret coming back. Chinese agents want him in Hong Kong. Gentry meets his old friend, who is held hostage in the Southeast Asian country.

Agent in Place

A group of Paris expats hire Gentry to kidnap a Syrian dictator’s mistress in order to destabilize the regime. Court performs the task, but his job has only begun when he realizes the mistress is pregnant with the dictator’s child.

Mission Critical

A hooded man enters Court’s flight on the CIA plane. The security wants to kick Court off the flight, but the CIA is against it. A Hollywood-style kidnapping takes place once they land at a UK airbase.

One Minute Out

Court investigates a human trafficking operation in Croatia. The trails lead back to Hollywood. While Court wants to break the operation down, his CIA boss has other plans.

Relentless

Numerous intelligence agents go missing, and Court is in charge of the investigation. An American agent shows up in Venezuela, and Court fights for his life while traveling there to save him.

Sierra Six

Sierra Six was the Gray Man’s name while he was a junior CIA member. Years after being involved in a terrorist mission, Gray Man sees the killer’s ghost. Court has to do all it takes to finish the job.

Burner

Alex Velesky discovers a major criminal conspiracy in the Swiss bank where he works. Soon enough, international intelligence members start hunting him. Gentry and his lover, Zoya Zakharova, both want Velesky, but for different reasons.
