Do you want to learn more about the sounds of text apps? Here is our review and the reasons why feature-rich Speechify is ultimately the top choice.

Regardless of the text you need to process, you likely reach a point where you prefer listening. Over the last few years, text to speech technology has advanced by leaps and bounds, so anyone can instantly convert documents into audio files.

Text to speech technology has been a game-changer for people with learning disabilities or visual impairments. In education, too, it has facilitated better learning and expanded the accessibility of knowledge.

This article introduces two TTS apps, Soundoftext.net and Hearling.com, the follow-up and improved version of Soundoftext.com. With both, you can listen to the sound of text across all your devices.

Hearling (formerly Soundoftext.com)

Originally, Soundoftext.com creator Flora Moon wanted to add sound to her flashcards and set up the free website to offer the feature to others. The website is still up and running, featuring one functionality; converting text files into MP3 audio files using the Google Translate text to speech software.

Soundoftext.com’s capability is simple. On the website, paste your text into the form, select the language, and instantly receive the audio. You can listen to or download it without subscribing. Because of its success, Moon decided to add more functionalities and created Hearling.com.

Hearling also offers standard robot voices, or WaveNet quality voices, which sound more human. In English, you can choose between four different accents and male and female.

Like on Soundoftext.com, you first select the language, the accent, and the gender, before pasting the text you want to convert. The download option adds functionalities such as generating sound effects and ringtones.

Hearling, too, uses Google Translate’s TTS engine.

Soundoftext.net

Soundoftext.net is also a free online voice generator. You can visit the website, paste your document, select the language, and create a downloadable MP3 file. At the time of our test, we couldn’t listen to the audio without downloading it, despite instructions to the contrary on the website.

Soundoftext.net offers bare bone functionality, giving users no voice or accent options. If that is all you need, Soundoftext.net works as it should without frills.

Get better speech synthesis with Speechify

Both Soundoftext and Hearling offer basic TTS functionality but nothing else. Most people need and want more from their text to speech provider, and that’s where Speechify, the multi-function TTS platform, comes in.

You can access Speechify on all device types and use it in 15+ natural languages. You can choose from three different subscription plans. The free plan provides 10 standard voices and accessibility in all locations and via all device types alongside TTS features.

Speechify Premium delivers 30+ high-quality natural voices, note-taking and highlighting features, different reading speeds, scanning, skipping, and importing options in 20+ languages.

In the Speechify Audiobook and TTS Bundle, you get all the premium features plus an expansive audiobook and podcast library.

Let’s look at the ways and functions Speechify delivers.

Text to speech - any text, any format

Speechify allows you to upload any text in any format, including Microsoft Word, PDFs, and Google Docs. You can add a browser extension to Explorer, Chrome, or Safari, enabling you to listen to web content or embed it on your WordPress website.

It also converts SMS messages and app notifications, which is especially useful if you have a visual impairment.

AI voice-over generator

The Speechify voice-over generator works fast and efficiently. You can type the text you want to add into the designated form, select a voice and recital speed, and after you click generate, you instantly get your downloadable audio file.

For instance, with this process, you can create a TikTok voice-over and add subtitles.

Immersion reading

Another great Speechify feature is immersion reading, whereby you upload a document and subsequently listen to it while reading it. Immersion reading is beneficial for people with reading difficulties or ADHD.

Notetaking and highlighting

If you sign up for the premium plan, you can also access the notetaking and highlighting features, helping you to retain and revise information more readily.

Versatility

Speechify creates audio files from your documents and enables you to save them as WAV files ready to customize by adding images, music, or even video footage.

You will find a host of helpful Speechify tutorials enabling you to get the most out of the software on YouTube.

FAQ

What is the sound of a letter?

The sound of a letter is a phoneme, while phonics describes the knowledge of letter sounds and their application in decoding written words. When children learn to read, they learn phonemes and phonetics first to help them turn the words on a page into speech.

What is the definition of a sound?

Sound refers to varying energy vibrations traveling through the air or other media and reaching a person’s ear so they can hear them. Stronger vibrations translate into louder sounds, with distance from the source also playing a crucial role.

The sound waves travel through your ear canal to your eardrum, causing it to vibrate. The auditory nerve subsequently sends signals to your brain.

Where can I find a new text tone?

You can go into settings and choose from various ring tones and text tones on iPhone and Android devices.

If you don’t like the text tones available on your mobile phone, you can purchase text message sounds or ring tones from various providers, including Apple iTunes, Google Play, and many others.
