In order to assist young children learn to read and read better, Reading Rockets is a national multimedia project that provides a multitude of research-based reading tactics, courses, and activities. Our reading resources help parents, educators, and other professionals support struggling readers as they develop their vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension skills. Reading Rockets initiative consists of PBS television shows (also available online and on DVD), online services provided by ReadingRockets.org and ColorinColorado.org, professional development opportunities, and a vibrant social community on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and YouTube. The initiative has been overseen by an advisory panel made up of top researchers and reading specialists.
Reading Rockets earned their moniker because Louisa Moats, a reading expert, called teaching reading “rocket science” in her seminal article about the abilities and knowledge teachers need to teach reading effectively. A youngster with dyslexia or other reading-based learning difficulties can practice their literacy and learning skills while having fun with the correct software. Kids that struggle with phonics, pronunciation, spelling, vocabulary, understanding, handwriting, word processing, and composition can find support in this collection of apps.
