"Speechify is absolutely brilliant. Growing up with dyslexia this would have made a big difference. I’m so glad to have it today."

Most popular feedback for Briar

Despite the fact that Briar is one of the most exciting messengers on paper, it’s tough to prophesize it as the new step in the field simply because it’s not likely to make waves outside of the infosec community. There’s also the problem of Briar being far less effective until it’s popular, which means it has to get popular while operating at a third of its potential. It’s a built-in handicap and it’s not one that’s easy to circumvent. Traditional messengers like Telegram and Signal don’t have such shackles and thus come out on top in the race.

About Briar

Briar is a messaging app that was developed specifically for journalists, activists, and anybody else who requires a secure, simple, and reliable method of communication. Briar is not like other messaging apps since it does not rely on a centralized server to store messages; instead, messages are synchronized directly between the smartphones of its users. In the event that the internet is unavailable, Briar may sync with other devices using Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, allowing the flow of information to continue even during an emergency. Briar is able to sync via the Tor network, which shields its users and the relationships they maintain from being monitored by third parties when the internet is operational. The application enables users to communicate with one another through private messaging, groups, forums, and blogs. The application itself has support for the Tor network. Unless you choose to share what you've done in Briar with other users, everything you do in the app is solely saved on the device you're using. There are no adverts, and your activity cannot be tracked in any way. The application's source code is totally open for anybody to inspect, and it has already been inspected by a professional organization. Because it is feasible to reproduce any release of Briar, it is possible to check that the disclosed source code precisely matches the program that has been published on this site. The development is carried out by a small team that is not for profit.

The pricing of the software is quite cheaper than other softwares available in the market. Once you get use to is, it is quite easy to use and configure. The entire calling experience can be customized easily if there is no one to attend the call. Just drag and drop customization.

Briar reviews

Probably the most secure messaging app out of any available, great idea! Unfortunately it will not be a good replacement for more popular messaging apps anytime soon. There is no way to send a video. Pictures are possible, but only in a chat with one other person and they get massively compressed. Pretty crazy in 2022. I love the idea of my messages not being routed through a central server, but it's not ready to replace my messaging app of choice. I'll check back in a few years.

I would like to see a pop-up chat head. If I'm not looking at the screen I will miss the flash notification across the top. I have missed a reply for hours. I like adding the contact without using my phone number. I was using TextNow and Text free but the constant ads drove me crazy! I think this is a good app.

This is probably one of the best messaging apps ever. I didn't even know a messaging app ever existed without using data . I installed this app into two phones and turned off Wi-Fi off for both of them and only left Bluetooth on. The app worked perfectly and no delayed text messages. I never knew that text messaging apps existed without ever having to use data or a Wi-Fi connection. I'm glad this technology exists because this would be very good in an emergency situations. Love this technology.

Linphone reviews

Love the features and concept. One of the few soft phones that triggers our music on hold from our sip pbx correctly. Some issues I noticed is that audio gets very distorted when other notifications are displayed on the Android phone. This is distracting as you can't hear the other party until the notification ends. There is an echo when setting up a conference call and you can't easily switch to other accounts if configured. Other than that, it works.

- Roy Reynolds

I have it set up with VoIP.ms, following their configuration instructions. It works fine so long as the phone is awake. But when the screen goes to sleep, the app does not receive calls reliably. I have push notifications turned on, but they don't seem to work. If I activate the background mode to leave a permanent notification on the screen, it receives calls, but kills the battery quickly. Neither option is workable.

No still has problem with Version 4.6.10. If I tap chat button at the bottom right, it freezes. On the Android version, If I tap Contact, it shows two chat icons, one with green shield and the other without. If I tap one without green shield, the app gets frozen. Why is this? Very annoying this needs to be fixed. Also chats do not seem to synchronize with Mobile app and PC desktop (Linux). Hope things will be improved.
