Most popular feedback for CherryTree

By far my favorite note app due to its simplicity yet very well organized design and useful features. Has some (minor) glitches and shortcomings, but I love its design. Pros... Feature rich (hierarchical notes, tables, code boxes, image import, db import/export, etc.) Not bloated with features you don't need Super easy to keep all your notes on dissimilar topics all in one place, well organized and easily navigatable Cons... CherryTree occasionally crashes for me (Windows). Not sure if the root cause is CherryTree or not. I may send feedback to the developer(s) and see what's up. UPDATE: I no longer see any crashes. I believe the problem was my work computer was still running Windows 7 (!!!) It never crashed for me under Win 10 (which I use at home). I only ever saw it crash on that one computer running Win 7. Interface sometimes seems to have been developed in its own universe rather than using standard libraries, toolkits, etc. Example ... Creating and editing tables is workable but not like any table editing you've probably seen before.

About CherryTree

CherryTree is not a straightforward note-taking application in the same vein as "Remember the Milk" or "Evernote." CherryTree places an exclusive emphasis on the functional aspects of note taking, eschewing any attempt at design. It gives you the ability to take notes in rich text format and highlights syntax for you. You have the option of storing your data in an XML file or a Sqlite file. CherryTree is loaded to the brim with features that enable you to directly pull notes and the features associated with them from a wide variety of programs and websites. Rich text, image handling, multi-level list handling, tables handling, codebox handling, hyperlinks, iteration sorting, and so on are just some of the many features that it possesses. Other features include: This tool is for users who need to copy not only text but also backgrounds, images, fonts, and a great deal more in addition to text. It is not for people who simply want to copy text. When it is used properly, it can save a web page along with all of the important attributes that are associated with it. This allows you to move the files over to another content management system without taking the web coding from the previous CMMS with you.

The best app on the iPhone Apple's minimalist philosophy is great, but when it comes to actually implementing minimalism it is always a hit or miss. Sometimes they screw up, like with Music, but sometimes they create a masterpiece, like Notes. Notes does everything I want it to every time. I have never wanted to go searching for another app to replace it. I have never needed to. It seems like a simple little app at first, but there's so much beneath the hood, that is brilliantly hidden from the user. It is not just minimalism done right, it is minimalism done PERFECT. There is no better note taking app. Every other one has some annoying interface full of pop ups, pestering me to sign into this or upgrade to this or check out this feature, it makes me want to pull my hair out. Meanwhile Notes lets me do what I came there to do: write. It is the perfect app for the crafting text. It is fast and to the point, simple yet has everything I could ever want. In conclusion, I love Notes.

About Notes (Apple)

Apple created the note-taking program called Notes. It is accessible through their iOS and macOS operating systems, the latter of which debuted with OS X Mountain Lion. It serves as a tool for creating quick text notes that may be shared around devices with the use of Apple's iCloud service.

CherryTree reviews

Good-looking and feature-full note taking software. Not just for programmers but for writers and researchers as well.

I was looking for an open source alternative to Workflowy. This is about as close as I could get. The UI isn't all that modern, but it is fairly configurable. You can change the fonts used and their sizes. The size of the toolbar items can be changed, you can actually make them really big. In my case I disabled the toolbar; the icons mix badly with a dark theme. The other thing that is a bit annoying is the icons. They are tiny and quite dated too. Maybe a nitpick on my part? Still, at least you can change the default entry icon from the cherry to any of the options they provide, such as a dot, like in a bullet list. I'm happy with this application. It does everything I need it to do well, without subscriptions or needless cloud dependency.

Fantastic note-taking app, probably the best in the business in that it isn't cloud based, works windows and linux, and supports encryption and has tons of features. The only major problem I have with it is that nearly every Linux distro out there is removing CherryTree from their standard repos. I can't get it after Debian 9, Fedora 30, or CentOS 7. Even Manjaro doesn't include it anymore. Anyone have any idea why?

Notes (Apple) reviews

The notes app has been a love hate relationship as an iPhone user. The sheer amount of words that it holds is incredible. Though with that comes lagging. Over the course of the past month I've used this app for larger note taking such as random ideas to safe keep, places to go, bucket lists, etc. Yet even though it has a low amount of words the typing slows down and lags behind significantly. I've noticed this issue more as I've gone into the recent software update that gave the Notes app more qualities. This update also comes with flaws of its own. I attempt to scroll down my note when it flings me back to the top at random. Or even to the middle at any given time. It also freezes when a collaborator edits, leaving you with a stuck drop menu that's at the bottom and who edited it at the top. I hope these things can be fixed, whether adding a higher word limit to slow lag or to look into the new update for bugs. I appreciate your time and hope the best for new downloaders! Don't be discouraged by this review, the Notes app is highly recommended for reminders and ideas!

This is just pure awesomeness! I love to come home, relax and write things down on my notes that I can’t tell others after a long day. Like my crushes, what I’m feeling like, anything. The app is my on the go diary. I tend to get on notes a lot, more than I think I should. Writing is one of my passions, and I also have been writing stories down on it as well. I don’t think that was the original purpose of the app, but it helps me out. I love the notes app so much, it’s like a fresh start. Sometimes, I do get carried away, and write too much. Right now, my app is struggling to stay open and even open in general. I’ve tried resetting my phone a few times but I’ll just keep trying. I love this app so very much, and I find it very useful. I also like to schedule my daily plans and/or last minute trips. I feel like this app is my getaway to a world of writing, I just wish the app would work for me. I believe it might be my fault, I’ve written so much on just one note, that it has trouble loading. I’d hate to delete the whole thing though. Maybe their should be an update for an option for pages? Other than that, I love the app! I don’t know how I could live without it!

Random note deletions & glitches Within the past 6 months or so I’ve been a lot more adamant about using notes on my phone to keep myself organized. However, when I swipe out of a note then click to go back in, the note disappears and it won’t show back up until I completely close out of the app and reopen it. Another thing that really made me angry was that I had a note in my phone that I’d been adding onto periodically since probably 2019 or earlier. A couple of months ago, it randomly deleted. The title of the note was still there but all of its contents- gone. I looked at deleted notes and every other file that I could and nothing. I’ve also never been able to lock any of my notes like I can on my MacBook. I have the most recent updates always but this has been an issue for as long as I can remember. I’m going to be downloading a different notes app and stop using Apple Notes completely. Hopefully I’ll have a better experience.

Pros & cons

CherryTree

Pros
Feature rich (hierarchical notes, tables, code boxes, image import, db import/export, etc.)
Not bloated with features you don't need
Super easy to keep all your notes on dissimilar topics all in one place, well organized and easily navigatable
A very sophisticated note taking and text-copying tool
Cons
It is mostly for people undertaking technical tasks
The tool is not a convenience tool as other note-taking apps are
No mobile :/ sometimes you need it..
and not, I don't want to use joplin, is nowhere near the same
UI the first time is weird
It seems from the roadmap this will change for better
No custom icons in a easy way :/ yes sometimes you need it
Either way, you can change it or add more icons there is a topic on how to do it on github.
