"Speechify is absolutely brilliant. Growing up with dyslexia this would have made a big difference. I’m so glad to have it today."

Most popular feedback for Dendron

Dendron has become my goto tool for journalling, structuring thoughts and ideas, planning, recording meetings, running with todo's. The list goes on and increases as the team even come out with new templates to existing entries to entirely new templates that make me think of what I'm not using it for now and then use those new features too. Without the newer features, I would still use Dendron as a place to store thougths in a way that you think rather than a way that you structure databases. This reduces friction and permits you to get the ideas down right away and therefore not to lose them. The only complaint I might have is that I dont yet use it enough. I could be losing 10% of new thoughts and ideas if I dont get to make an entry. I'm working on an app that could be used to update a Dendron Vault but I've no doubt there may be one out there already and if not soon they may be several. Dendron appears to be growing and improving all the time. Any time spent using Dendron is time invested.

About Dendron

The tool for taking hierarchical notes that expands with you as you learn more. It makes it simple for you to generate, search, and administer knowledge bases of any size. Built on top of VSCode, Dendron is an open-source, markdown-based, local-first note-taking tool that prioritizes local storage first. Dendron, just like the majority of similar tools, supports all of the typical features that you would anticipate, such as tagging, backlinks, a graph view, split panes, and other similar features. However, this is not the end of the problems; although most tools (attempt to make it) simple to import notes, they typically make it challenging to export them at a later time, and this difficulty only increases as more notes are imported. Dendron is a tool that can assist you in retrieving notes, and it works more effectively the more notes you have.

Most popular feedback for MindMeister

it is very easy and flexible. It allows changes in the herarchies that can be done very easily. The use of keyboard to create new connections and herarchies is very useful. You can also add ideas, icons or highlight with colors the ideas. It has a free version that can be used with no time limit. The canvas is infinite so it allows very big diagrams.

Dendron reviews

Dendron has given me the opportunity to have a one-stop place for all my notes, random thoughts and project planning right where I feel at home - in VSCode [...] I use Dendron mostly to manage multiple projects to keep track of meeting notes, TODOs, planned features and sharing all of this with my colleagues.

- Chris Na Tinkerer/Software Architect

Hierarchies [are] such a game changer. I just couldn't organize myself with a flat structure and ended up spreading notes out. The key thing that changed my perspective was the ease of restructuring hierarchies, it gives you the confidence to just write, safe in the knowledge that you can just restructure it later

- Luke Carrier Site Reliability Engineer

I've been using Dendron exclusively for my daily journal and notetaking since last week. Now that I've learned about PARA and figured out the hierarchy that best works for me, I'm absolutely loving it! [...] It took me a couple of days to figure out the best workflow and transfer my past notes, I'm now moving faster and able to create, update, and find notes quickly.

Pros & cons

Dendron

Pros
It has a friendly and professional community, including developers that listen to feedback and continously improve the product
It uses git (or other source code management system) for version history, which is a really clever choice (why reinvent the wheel, if these tools do it so much better)
It uses Markdown, which has all the necessary formatting options, without forcing to use a bloated, slow and proprietary WYSIWYG editor

MindMeister

Pros
I had a boss who liked to use mind mapping software but I never understood why until I tried it with MindMeister
MindMeister makes it so easy to create great looking mind maps as well as diagrams
There are many tools available but the mindmaps by MindMeister seems to be the perfect fit
The concept of mindmaps with connections make the task easy and effective
Really easy to get the hang of
I love the ability to add notes and attachments in my maps
I use mind map to manage my web projects for years
And MindMeister is a great tool for me to manage my projects and fulfill my "co-work" needs."
Cons
My students sometimes have problems retireving maps - especially if they have started a map and only worked on it for a few minutes
The only annoying detail i've come across so far is that formatting is lost when undoing a move, which i'm sure is fixable in future updates
The only thing I do not like is the way connections between separate ideas are drawn: those green lines look hideous and are pretty inconvenient to use
When I was invoiced another 12-months, I requested a refund advising that I had forgot to cancel they refused
As a small business we are now out of pocket for something we aren't going to use."
