"Speechify is absolutely brilliant. Growing up with dyslexia this would have made a big difference. I’m so glad to have it today."Sir Richard Branson
This is my favorite reader app- and I've tried MANY. Thank you so much. I love being able to correct pronunciation now, too. Sometimes the speech engine might be ignoring those, but I also haven't tried the paid options yet. Someday I hope to be able to rename files and organize them in folders, and make the lockscreen controls bigger when driving, but really those are more suggestions than complaints. Thank you again!
Text To Speech (TTS) is a program that turns written text into an auditory narrative, and Evie uses it to read books. The outstanding Amazon Polly Text To Speech engine, which is integrated with Evie, is from Amazon. To create speech that sounds like human speech, Polly, a cloud service, makes use of cutting-edge deep learning algorithms. Any installed TTS engine on your phone can also be used by Evie. Evie contains capabilities that are often seen in music player applications in addition to the functionality you would expect to find in reading apps: Even when the screen is off and Evie is reading in the background, she can still read aloud. With Bluetooth or wired headphones, the buttons on your earbuds let you control playback. Through Bluetooth, Evie can connect to your car stereo. The buttons in your car can be used to play, pause, and skip forward or backward. Your lock screen or the notifications drawer are where you may control it. Grasp this opportunity to relax your eyes. While driving, read a book. Exercise while listening to a book. whatever time you are gardening. Alternately, read a book before bed. Evie reads DRM-free ePub ebooks that you download from the internet, your phone, or other device. Additionally, it can open HTML pages so that you can hear aloud the articles from your preferred news source. The Text To Speech voices are the most easily managed with Evie. With your phone's TTS engines installed, you can read books in any language that is supported. Evie adjusts voices automatically to match the language of the book based on your language-specific selections for the TTS Engine and Voice. Evie gives you the option to alter the speech pace as well as the length of the pauses at the beginning and finish of phrases, allowing you to precisely match the speech to your own personal style. A sleep timer function is quite simple to utilize in Evie. Evie will stop reading at the predetermined time after you activate it with a simple swipe. A simple touch of the earphones' button will allow you to restart the timer if it has already expired. For both the current chapter and the entire book, Evie accurately determines how much listening time is left. Also included is a thorough overview to the Text To Speech Engines and Voices that are offered in the Play Store for your convenience.
Laryngitis made this app a necessity Having lost my voice, I needed a way to communicate with others that would be easy to use. The doctor insisted on no taking for at least 24-48 hours, and I didn’t know how I’d be able to exist without talking. This app is perfect for my needs. I’m able to type up what I want to say and I can stay a part of the conversation without having to scribble on a notepad and pass papers around like I’m in some secret society meeting. I like that I can change the font size and the speaking voice and volume, as well as the speed of the text.

Once I get more books from other places I will be very happy. Right now everything that I have on my phone comes through Amazon or from the library and this will not read either of them I have difficulty even trying to share to this app. I love the potential. I love the ease. I love all the different features. Except everything I want to read right now is inaccessible. I guess you could call it melancholy Joy.

Love this TTS app! The built in network voices are so smooth and natural that I can listen to books (I use this for reading fanfic) while doing chores, driving, at work, etc. One downside is that I can't play music and listen to books at the same time or change the pitch of the reader, but tbh those are a minor trade off for the amazing voice quality! It can also record the TTS for saving and listening offline, which is great for not using data :)

Best reader, hands down. If it's do-able, I'd LOVE to be able to change the color of Evie in-app; the blue area at the top of the screen where the icons all are, as well as the highlighting part that's currently a pink color. I'm personally a fan of red, purple and full black. But if a "color wheel" could be a thing, that would be amazing also. Just an idea I had. It's not vital, just more on the aesthetic side of things, haha. Zero pressure, I promise

Still a MAJOR bug I have been waiting about three(?) months for this app to be fixed, but it still freezes, crashes, and then stops working after about a minute or less of using the app since the new iPhone 15.4.1 update. This app was always absolutely incredible. The voice is quite realistic in my opinion and I love how it can read thousands upon thousands of words in just one paste! But again, I unfortunately have yet to be able to use it due to this issue… I’m really hoping that they’ll eventually make this app compatible with the new update… till then, I can’t really give it more stars (if it worked like how it used to, it would be five stars!).
One happy customer I am so happy and grateful for coming across this app. I’m a tracheotomy patient and I suffer from a vocal cord paralysis. It has been a very difficult 4 years trying to verbally communicate with people. During the pandemic I have really been having a hard time being understood because my mouth is covered. I ran across this app yesterday and instantly started playing around with it after I downloaded it onto my phone. This app has made it easy for me to send messages to my people without them having to read multiple texts from me. I’m going to keep playing around with it to learn more. I used it at a restaurant to place an order as well. Yes, simple things like that has been very difficult, this app gives me hope….thank you.

Good app, but could use some fixes. I have been searching for an app to use for when I go nonverbal, and this one can be pretty useful. It has quite a few voices to choose from and I like that it isn’t limited with what you can say. I have been having an issue though with my saved/favorited phrases. When I search for a phrase, I’m not able to select and play it after searching. I can only play the phrases I have saved if I scroll to find them from the entire list. This kind of defeats the purpose of being able to search for phrases. I’m unsure if this is a glitch or a design flaw. It would also be really helpful to be able to create categories for saved phrases. I know this is not necessarily intended to be an AAC app, but it would be a perfect free alternative for people like me if those features were added.
